    I used to have one of these here in Japan for a few years. I can report that yes, you want one. I loved it and would buy another. You can literally wrap your arms around the whole front and give it a hug. Mine was almost exactly like this one, but had a 5 speed manual. The XR-II badge on the side means it's the turbo version and yes you want that and the manual. It is fun to drive but crashes over bumps which gets tiring. It does rev high-ish, but the noise makes you back off every time. It doesn't sound... happy doing it. the K classification is more about the engine size which is always just under 660cc. the K cars now can be pretty big actually. Theoretically, the small engine gets the tax breaks due to small size efficiency, less pollution and weight. yes weight. in japan, you pay more for having a heavier car. Because it's... heavier. but that engine was NOT fuel efficient nor was it very clean. it's reliable, but that's it only quality. it's more of a gimmick to sell more domestic cars in japan. always has been. I used it in RWD mode, but the 4WD and low range box worked fantastic in the deep snow despite it not having a limited slip diff or traction control. pros of it's very light weight. and not 100%, but i'm very sure that remote starter is after market. I think problems with those pajero minis are rust and the front axles seizing up under 4WD sharp turns especially in low range mode. other than that, just cheap interior bits. the AC worked fine, but I could feel the difference in power. no big deal. the roof is mainly a flexible piece of plastic with a single questionable roll bar behind the door. but you won't be taking that on a US interstate often unless you want to hear 5000 to 6000 rpms the whole time. you can pick and choose these all day in japan from 1500 to 3000 dollars. lots available. they never stopped making the Suzuki Jimny, but it grew into a boring looking thing and didn't look cool until now. but yeah, Pajero minis rock.

    • @rileygally2967
      @rileygally2967 ปีที่แล้ว

      Can you tell me around how long these usually last? I'm looking to buy one soon but I'm wondering if I should get one with 100,000+ km (60,000 miles), or if it would be wiser to hold out and find one with less mileage?

    • @Tenvince
      @Tenvince ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@rileygally2967 high mileage minis are quite a common thing. i wouldn't say that 100k is any kind of threshold for one. the engines are simple as legos and mass produced like cornflakes. used in so many other Kei models. the more important factor to look for would be care and weather condition. the rubbers/seals on the outside for example. interior. these were cheaply made and one used or stored outside for years in a harsher environment would have suffered.

    • @matthewcaughey8898
      @matthewcaughey8898 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@rileygally2967 Japanese small engines are notoriously easy to fix as are most of their products. It seems virtually everything they built in Japan was intended for export. I’ve had several mini cars and found the engines were easy to remove ( I didn’t use a hoist as 3 mid sized dudes cab pull a 660cc engine with a moderate amount of effort). So long as you get one that’s not rusty ( these are unibody) and don’t turn the wheel to full lock in 4wd lo it’s pretty solid. Though interstate highways are definitely not where this thing is happy at all

    • @hatman4818
      @hatman4818 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kazumekku AWD vehicles ARE heavier. 4WD is lighter than AWD, and there is a big difference in how they function. Pajero mini just has a bare bones basic 4WD setup.
      Also, its actual horsepower is closer to 50 horsepower, not 65, I'm not sure where he got that number from. Maybe he got that number from what the HP limit on kei cars was in 1996. But here's the thing, Japan steadily increased the HP limit on kei cars over the decades, but... Mitsubishi never really bothered keeping up with the times, they used the same 4A3 engine, making about 50 horsepower, in the pajero mini for a LONG time.

    • @kazumekku
      @kazumekku 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hatman4818 Oh ok, thanks. You're probably correct, and you definitely called me out on 4WD and AWD. I have little knowledge of how they differ. I found a source for detailed specs on the vehicle, though, by google searching, "mitsubishi pajero mini weight," and using the website called, "tc-v." (I would simply add the link here, however, I'm used to external links being moderated and blocked) Anyways, it would seem the 4WD system adds around 150 lbs (70 kg), I guess, compared to the FWD version. I was just amazed that despite the rugged drivetrain, the vehicle still weighs less than most compact cars from that era. I can definitely imagine how slow this vehicle is now though, with its low-power engine being the main cause then, so I amend that statement about it deserving a higher acceleration score. Still, 4WD and light-weight sounds like a good recipe for quick launches, but also "tc-v" did have specs on max power, rated at 63 hp (47kW[64ps]@6000rpm). Maybe, at the crank? Still, really slow, but seemingly efficient for the engine size.
