Just brought in a 1997 Mitsubishi Pajero Junior Lynx with 46k km and love it. Drove it Baltimore to Minneapolis and readily kept up with Penna Turnpike and Chicago traffic. Great car. 72 decibels at full out, which is a little loud, but a fantastic daily.
This guy is awesome bringing all of his strange cars and trucks! I've got a full size us Montero (1999) with the locker and loaded. It's super comfy and I'm just in love with it! I wouldn't mind having all 3 sizes!
I currently have the same car, even the same color! Only difference is that mine has a front bumper with fog lights in the front, it’s an automatic, and mine was converted to left side drive. It was my beater car back in college, but unfortunately got neglected in the last 10 years, of which it has sat in our garage. I finally had the means to get it repaired last year, but it’s gonna take a little more time before it can return to a road worthy condition. After years of not running, I was really stoked when it again fired up in the shop. Still lots of stuff to do, but at least it’s alive again. Can’t wait to drive it again after all the repairs are done.
Interior size exactly same Junior or pajero mini !!! Same with Subaru Domingo or Sambar same Suzuki Samurai Jimny Sierra 1300 or 660turbo same body only difference engine bigger and axles wider Wheels base same But Daihatsu Terios longer than Terios kid 😊1300-660 or Suzuki Wagon R wide 1000cc or 660cc
It was also sold here in Costa Rica, Central America, for a few years in the early 2000s and/or late 90s under the name Montero Junior (Pajero is called Montero here), it had a 1.8 liter engine and was available as a 2 door or a 4 door, my parents had one, it was very reliable for us, one of the first car I drove for long trips (as if really long trips where possible here in my tiny country jaja)
That was the pajeio IO / pinim it was the next generation of this car, this generation was only for Japanese domestic market, the pajero IO was the export
Been daily driving one of these for the last 5 years, got it dirt cheap since it had a couple of problems but its such an easy car to work on I had no issue fixing it being the first car Ive ever worked on. Just fast enough to keep up with everyone on the highway, but such a blast on dirt roads/off road.
@@leandrocosta3709 100%. These little things are surprisingly good off road. All I have done is put a set of meaty all terrains on it. I have plans for a small lift bumpers, snorkel and a few other little things. Mine is the N/A 1.8lt engine and it’s surprisingly peppy.
Couple corrections for the start: it just is a mini, isn’t just like. It has the same engine, non turbo, just bored or stroked out. I can’t remember which. There’s exactly one (1) airbag. Not airbags. It’s just a mini with fender flares. Basically everything is transferable from a comparable year mini to a jr. Great video, love watching these.

So awesome too have this video pop up on my feed. Especially since I'm having my 1996 pajero Mini arrive within the next 3 weeks. Just on the last steps doing the ISF filing and have a road trip to pick it up.
On road handling is where this thing shines over the samurai/jimny. Independent front suspension for the junior. Solid axles all around for the samurai/jimny.
I've got what replaced this, a 99 Mitsubishi Pajero io that was sold in Australia new. But it didn't sell well so before I saw mine I didn't even know it existed but there's an amazing online community for them here and being a aus delivered one you can get any part from a local Mitsubishi dealer still. Also I like how they raised the Mitsubishi parts bin so the engine is the same as a Lancer and the gearbox and transfer case is used in basically all other 4x4 Mitsubishis like the Triton, Delica and big Pajero but with different ratios. Mitsubishi is still relatively popular here in Australia as we love their utes and they make good looking cars so I hope they continue to bring in cars like the Pajero Sport and the Triton L200
There was a Toyota Mini Cruiser in the 70s. They were made in the Philippines and exported to South America. It was the standard issue of the Philippine military in the 70s.
I got to say 80HP is not much less then what we had in europe in the fullsize offroaders of the 90s, and they were about the double in weight and engine size aswell 😂 lazy and slow is an understatement 😂 this plucky little Mitsubishi is quite awesome i got to say! And i had a '00 Pajero (Montero for US) with 99horsepowers, and i'm never goint there again 😂😂
Still need one more step up a bit. The Junior only had a short life for a couple of years, so getting one makes you lucky for a rare vehicle compared to the other Pajeros. The Junior was replaced by the IO which won't be eligible for importation until next year. The IO is this time around, meant to be exportable and made overseas, as the TR4 in Brazil and as the Pinin in Italy, named after Pininfarina who styled the vehicle. This Pajero has either a 1.8 or 2.0 liter engine found in most other Mitsubishi compacts, which makes more power than previous baby Pajeros. The size of the IO puts it around where the first generation RAV4 and C-RV, making it practical. For this, you might opt getting the left hand version by importing from Brazil instead of Japan. Also known as the Shogun Pinin or Montero IO.
Thanks Tommy, another Great Japanese Domestic Car that we should be getting in the US. Think how great KEI cars would work in cities like New York, Boston....etc.
looks cool, even took a few minutes out of my month to look at car exporters/ shippers from Japan. (not buying one yet/ but looking always could start something)
Having lived in Japan and 4x4 driving both the Pajero and the Jimny, the clubs i was driving with the cost of ownership and failures of the Pajero (Doesnt really matter which one) was so bad that the Jimny is still king of the off road. Even my LJ40 with the 440cc two-stroke engine and 5 spd.
Larry 😊 Suzuki Jimny Wide 1998 has more power and torque 😊 your need compare with correct SUV Junior or Before 1998 was Jimny Sierra aka samurai 16 valve also good power compared with USA older samurai!!!
Actually this is the same car as the mini, just different engine and different body kit but otherwise the same. Totally different car to the pinin that was sold in europe and mentioned in the comments.
A 4-door version would have been perfect for the US. It would have needed a larger engine(maybe a 1.8 liter four-cylinder). It would have also needed a part-time 4WD system and an automatic. I would have considered buying one. I guess I could get an old one under the 25 year rule.
You are talking of an existing Mitsubishi...the Pajero IO, wich is a Suzuki Grand Vitara contender, Almost all Pajeros came with Superselect (2wd, AWD, 4H-4L)
Cool car. The way the seat belt is positioned while you are driving the Pajero, it looks like your t-shirt may have a profanity on it. Had to do a double take.
I love my kei truck but I want one of these so bad! I've debated on importing one, however, my state is run by a bunch of idiots who think any jdm vehicle is illegal.
Sorry, but the Flying Pug and Mitsuoka cars are timeless and elegant. I find most American cars to be boring and ugly. I do find it interesting that people who like Mitsuoka tend to dislike American style cars and people who like standard cars. Hate Mitsuoka. I probably would have become a car person if America had cars that looked like that.
Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars, trucks and busses including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing petrol stations to only one state operated central gas station per city. From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime.
It’s inevitable. Their only hope is to retrofit batteries and electric motors into the classics to keep them on the road. Which would still keep them fun to drive!
sounds like the congo kids will have to go deeper to find more cobalt, it is not sustainable. Everything else built on the the e-cars are made of fossil fu
I’d 100% daily drive that.

Fantastic 😊
I have a Pajero Junior in Japan. They are rare these days. Great fun to drive. Will try and export it to the States when it's eligible next year.
this guy is awesome, unique amog car lovers, knows what he wants
Larry is hilarious! I like this little Mitsubishi. It doesn't seem like a 25 year old car, very nice condition for the age and price.👍

Way to go Larry, you shed a bunch of pounds in just one year and bring us such cool cars to learn about!

He kinda looks like Paul Reiser. Love the Pajero Jr. It's like a luxury model to my 1993 Geo Tracker.

Dude this guy has all the versions and all these cool toys
I have a Pajero IO. Which is one step up from this. 4 door 5 speed 4wd. This is. A blast to drive
Me too. Actually the Pajero TR4, the Brazilian market version of the IO. I love that center locker.

I would like to add one to my Montero fleet. I currently own 3 generations. Those MPGs are appealing and they just look cool!!
It's great getting to hear about all these cars I've never heard of. Thanks guys

G'day it's Steven from Down Under
I've been a Mitsubishi Motors vehicle owner since the late eightees, this is a great little car.
Not a samurai killer !!!
It is not bigger 😊 but only axles wides and engines bigger but same body student learning your lessons 😊

Definitely more modern and better comfort than a samurai but won't kill a samurai off road!
Have a pajero junior love it to bits, years of Fun to be had with one of these lil bad boys....

I hope he brings a Mitsubishi Galant VR-4 (E50) or Sports GT or Eterna/Emeraude!
I've been looking at videos all day about the Junior. I literally finished watching the other video about the Pajero MINI & now I'm here
So awesome too have this video pop up on my feed. Especially since I'm having my 1996 pajero Mini arrive within the next 3 weeks. Just on the last steps doing the ISF filing and have a road trip to pick it up.
Great review. Haven't you tested soviet Niva with transfer case yet?

Independent front suspension for the junior. Solid axles all around for the samurai/jimny.
Larry is back!
What's the auction website?
It fits in between the mini and iO/Pinin, everyone forgets the Pajero iO 😅
That’s tight
Shame we miss out on these and the other little gems
We have a pajero io, its the next size up from the pajero jr before getting to the normal pajero. With the 2.0L awesome little off roader

A friend of mine has one of these, super cool. Hers is diesel, I think larger displacement.
I love all three of the Pajero suv!

Surprised you never mentioned the Daihatsu Rocky and how it compares.
My uncle has a zr-ll pajero jr. and it has a 20v 4a31 turbo (stock and manual) with complete body decals
I saw one roaming around in my city not too long ago and I WANT ONE
My samurai would have that for dinner and spit out the bones
Hello, so what was that auction website?
I saw a lot of these when i was at Malta
Awesome video, Larry is cool
What was the name of the auction site?
The correct comparison with the Pajero Jr would be the Suzuki Sidekick/Geo Tracker, not the Samurai.
No , correct will be Jimny Sierra 1300 or Jimny Wide 😊 escudo bigger 1.6cc to 2cc GEo trucker Vitara like correctly to compare mmc pinin IO!!!
samurai has a solid front axle, thats a major advantage
I thought that 1.1litre was a bored out 660cc from the mini. Add the turbo from the mini and it would rip a lil better

What a dandy vehicle for city life/driving!
Pajero IO it's absolute different model of car, it's not an "Export Version of Pajero Jr"

Beautiful car money can buy ❤
I would love one of those.
Hello! Does Larry sells his imported Japanese cars/suvs?
Is it a Pinin. Built in Italy for European market. (Shogun Pinin)
Love these curiosity vehicles
And also the Pajero Fitz them between these two
I would like to know its reliability
You all need to do the new Jimny/Samurai
The larger 4 from the 2dr Montero would be ideal. It would be just enough power for the size.
they keep the good cars in Japan.
Pajero JR is sweet
Is this the same as the Pajero Pinin? Or was the Pinin larger than the Pajero JR?
Not the same. Pinin is larger and more powerful.
can you test the pajero io

So next is the European market Pajero Pinin?
The Japanese cars became popular because of their simplicity.
Economy in Price and Economy in Fuel
BTW samurai is a body on frame, its stronger than the pajero mini unibody
I love these small pajero but the price is 50% more expensive than 2010 pajero
I like the pajero io better. Larger in space and bigger engine.
I do like it a lot.
Thought that was Paul Reiser for a second 🤣
love these k cars👍
same size as suzuki sidekick or chevy tracker

This is like a 2 door RAV4 they used to sell.
Looks like it was washed in too hot water and it shrunk… I would love to own one…
Samurai killer? Them fightin’ words 😆
I like it ❤️👌🏻
nope, have not seen this in Indonesia yet
next pajero pinin?
No, it is not. And especially this Pajero Mini/ Pinin version. Regards.
This car is not sold in Indonesia.... 😅
Have always liked these little mountain climbers. My only gripe is your pronunciation of Pajero….cringy. The “J” has an “H” sound.
