The story of Twitter is a tangled web of lies and betrayals. But, it all begins in 2005, with a little start-up called Odeo. Odeo aimed to become the home of podcasting on the internet - a place where users could record and share their audio files. However, Odeo would soon pivot to Twitter, a platform for users to share their statuses online. This decision would set in motion a series of betrayals by the Twitter founders, as they compete for control of running Twitter. This video tells the behind the scenes story of twitter, largely based on the book Hatching Twitter.

Very good use of the characters there, and you played out the story well. As this is something that has come up before (Apple, etc.) how about a video on how Zuckerberg managed to keep control of the board (I believe it was to do with JT tellling him have extra seats for family/friends).

He just wasn't smart enough to grasp that everyone hated him and ultimately would have been nothing but a detrement to the business. Dude was crusing for a sexual harassment case before they even took off.
I didn't feel anything hearing this video until that part hit. I went... "whoa, fuck, play that back again". Grabbed me in a place that isn't real in this world.
this is why when you start a business, you have a legal agreement for majority control. Imagine getting fired from your own idea
yeah, imagine that happened at Apple. Jokes aside, it's very difficult though if you need to keep taking on investors who also want board seats. I hear that Zuckerberg somehow managed it, but I don't know the full story of how, it'd be interesting to find out how (I think it was to do with keeping extra board seats himself.
I mean, if he had the majority control we wouldn’t have anything similar to what today Twitter is.
@@neanda Stock market has stock classes. The Zuckatron made a stock class with a lot of control and kept it. He has 17% stock, but 56% control. Just change the stock classes, make sure investors have B class stock, while YOU have A class stock.
How was not he from the start Ceo, when how does investor become Ceo, when its just investong from him.
@@jout738 Elon Musk was just an investor. Circumstances had it so that he HAD to take over. The best businessman will be the CEO, and if they have one on the board of directors and need them, then they will take over to make the company prosper.
Why does ANYONE hire friends and family into their businesses? I remember asking my best friend if she could grab me an application for the coffee place she worked at, and she said she'd reccomend me. A couple minutes later I was like, holy hell NEVERMIND. If I fucked up on the job it would reflect badly on my friend, and the work environment could mess with our friendship. I would never involve business with my friendships.

Often, it's not business owners that go looking to hire family; it's family that is hard to tell no.
I used to run Kitchens. Had to fire my best friend one time because he showed up drunk and I was told by the owner I could get rid of him or we could both pack our sht and go. So I fired him. Luckily he knew he had fu*ked up so there were no hard feelings and we met up later and grabbed a beer. He's still one of my best friends tho sadly he's a functional alcoholic.

After listening to this I felt so bad for Noah 😫 and then I looked him up 😂 why did he make it sound like Noah was this sad lonely recluse who’d lost everything and everyone he loved?
Yes Noah did lose a lot, but when he was fired he was given severance and several shares of Twitter. He chose to sell them. Other high level employees that were laid off were given shares and they kept them and became millionaires. He got more than they did so if he had kept them, he could’ve been a billionaire too. Prior to him getting fired from Twitter, he had also started another company called Olo. When he got fired, he kept an eye on Twitter but he shifted his attention to Olo and is currently still the CEO of that company. Noah is a millionaire. I know being a billionaire would be better, but it’s not like he’s broke and struggling to make ends meet.
He also remarried in 2008 to his current wife Keiko and they had a daughter in 2013.
Does what happened to him suck? Yes absolutely. But he’s more than fine 🤣🤣 he’s CEO of a decently successful company, a millionaire and happily married with a kid.
He played a part in his own demise by trusting Jack and trying to take out Evan. Tough break but I’ll save my sympathy for the many lower level employees who actually got screwed over when Odeo was scrapped.
Maybe he chose to sell his shares because he didn't wanted a drop of water when he could've had the entire ocean. I mean think bout this level of betrayal happened to you as a person and you see yourself drowning out of the idea that you started it and now it's someone else's.
Ps: if I would've been in the same situation perhaps I'd rather sell my shares too

I mean to be fair, it doesn’t sound like Noah was such a good friend either. Seems like they both wanted to control everything and wouldn’t listen to each other. Then Noah decided to cut Evan out of the business he helped to start and he trusted Jack who was obviously the worst of the three. It’s a sad story all around
He was the only one who wants to make Twitters service better rather than wanting to be CEO position ...if we conclude from this story

In my late 20's I started a T Shirt Merchandise business with friends, something for us to do on weekends for fun & sell at outdoor events... and to keep us busy instead of drinking every single weekend...long story short, every body wanted to be the Boss!!! Lets just say 10 years later and we still not in communication with each other..
i'm just glad Noah left (well, more like fired from his own company). Looking at the dumpsterfire that is Twitter, he dodged a bullet. He's doing well now and is away from this garbage platform.

The first two are not betrayals, are logical decisions of someone who invested in a company and saw it's investment losing value. When you accept a position in a company is not just a title, it is a responsability. And when you "get" investors and sell the majority of the company it's not your company anymore. Your idea is just a small part of a project. If you can't live up to expectations is normal to be removed. You have to grow with the company.
