RIP to Gary Richrath, probably the most underrated rock guitarist of all time. He was definitely one of my influences when I started playing.

Gary was just incredible! He could look at a guitar and it would play! He deserves more credit than he got! R.I.P. Gary!

I suspect the overall image of REO as soft rock meant that most people never knew how kickass a rock band they were.

This was the REO band that I loved so in the 70s. With Hi Infideity they softened---but hit their greatest fame. I was glad though they finally became one of the most popular bands and fiinally earned real money. However, for me and the many early fans it was never the same again. Their live album "You get what you Play for" is one of the greatest live albums ever.

Absolutely a motivating song…..speaking of “Keep Pushing” these guys are STILL touring as I write this……Another classic that occasionally (not enough IMO) gets played on Classic rock radio is “Back on the road again”……it is a BANGER !….Gary Richrath’s Les Paul Gibson is scorching on that track……those who know “know”……great reaction per usual

I was a junior in High School, 16 years old in December of 1976. December 4th, five of us jumped in our driver's 1965 Rambler and drove the forty minutes to the Harrisburg Farm Show Arena in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, completely psyched as the occasion was seeing AEROSMITH that night on the ROCKS tour. REO SPEEDWAGON was the opening act. The sum total of all of our knowledge of REO was the two pre-Cronin albums, which really didn't hit with us at all. We also knew they had gotten a new singer and released a new self titled album which none of us had heard. Honestly, we had zero interest in REO and in advance were thinking they were an unavoidable delay in us seeing AEROSMITH...AGAIN hahaha.
REO hit the stage and they opened with this BANGER...KEEP PUSHIN'! They literally in one song blew us all away! KEVIN CRONIN's energy was a breath of fresh air, GARY RICHRATH was a BEAST, the entire band incredible musicians! A great set. The other standout for me was what I consider to be tied with KEEP PUSHIN' as my favorite REO jams...the other I BELIEVE OUR TIME IS GONNA COME.
I went out the next day and bought the F'N EIGHT TRACK of this album and as the years passed I bought the LP, the cassette and the CD haha.
Since you connected so much to the message in this song, you gotta check out the other song I mentioned, it's much more of the same, great message.

Thank you for this this. This style of music needs to be kept alive. No one writes Rock N Roll jam dance music anymore. Midwestern Rock bands were the shit, but when they moved to California they became less gritty and lost that strong blues rock sound.
Concerts in those days were practically spiritual. You should have been there.

Loved this song since I first heard it on REO's live album "You Get What You Play For". REO has always been one of my favorites from that era, which I call The Golden Age of Rock. And I agree with you. "Never quit. Never give up!" Hard to imagine a better message for us loners. And the first lyric still hits home. Although I still get lonely sometimes, I'm a LOT more comfortable with being alone. Which is fortunate, considering my relationship status, whic is now at "Terminally Single". God bless, Jamel/Jamal (which is your preference?).

You must do “Golden Country” live by REO. Gary’s guitar solos are epic. Gary used Gibson Les Paul guitars plugged into Marshall Amps. That’s it! No effects of any kind, pedals, etc.

Are you back to doing music again?
    Steely Dan's glamor profession.
    From the 1980 gaucho
You did so much for a steely Dan reviews but you never got to that one that was really surprised talking about the cocaine connection in LA.
