Thank you for your instructions! I've been using the clutches for 3 weeks now for very short trips to the bathroom, and I just realised they needed to be readjusted. I'm also feeling brave enough to give the stairs a try after watching this.
I just had foot surgery that may necessitate crutches for up to 12 weeks. I haven't used crutches in 53 years so this is starting all over for me. Very useful and understandable video. Thanks
@@AaronTheEagle1 remember to lean a little bit backwards when going down and forward when going up. Cuz falling forward when going down is a nono lol. Start going up and down while holding the two crutches together and the railing before trying to go full crutch mode.
This is very accurate. I have a genetic condition called Patella Alta/Patella Femoral Syndrome, which is basically where my knee cap sits up way too high and also moves around in directions it shouldn't. I have known about it for about 10 years now and been on crutches several times, one time I was on them a year and a half. I was on them that long because at the time they, for the life of them, could not figure out what the problem was. 6 days ago, to be exact, I had a lateral release arthroscopy surgery done so now I'm on crutches yet again.
Excellent and very helpful video...You covered everything I needed to know...I found out today I have a cracked kneecap and will be in a brace w/ crutches and a wheelie chair for 6 weeks...I cant bear any weight on my injured knee at all while it is healing...Thanks so much for your awesome video...I was really scared to try the stairs, but I cant wait to tackle it tomorrow and not have to be so dependent on others to help me get around....
I was warded at KTPH in between 2011-2012 (warded 2 weeks each on 2 occasions. 1st due to Calcaneal fracture & undergo ORIF with metal plate and screws fixation. 2nd was Acute Osteomyelitis & undergo surgery to remove metal plate and screws, 7 debridement sessions and drain abscess due to built up white blood cells which led to infection, skin graft and 2 months of PICC antibiotics & NPWT to 'vacumm suck' the impurities out of my 'hole in ankle' wound and at same time repair back the loss of muscle parts). Gruelling sessions for me back then but managed to walk back in 2 months on each of the 2 occasions. KTPH has the best facilities and the staffs are friendly. I can still remember the nurses, therapist and ortho surgeons's names 😎
Thank you for sharing I really hate to use crutches but my apartment is to small to use my knee scooter. I'm stuck with my crutches for the next 6 weeks. And I think what makes it difficult for me is going down the stairs since I hate heights. But i liked the video so hopefully it works.
@katiematey456 Well you can, but I really don't recommend doing so; because your foot needs time to rest itself and plus it hurts like hell when you put weight on it, so it's really hard to just force pain on yourself
Sorry for the delay I was checking with our physio. Getting off from a chair without arms would be similar to how it is shown on the video. Instead of pushing down on the arm rest, use the seat to push off with the other arm pushing down on the crutch's hand pad.
Interesting to see how differently crutches look like in different countries. The ones I use look nothing like yours. But regarding stairs I must say they're a nightmare if you aren't strong in the arms and core.
you probably wont see this anymore but i might hazard a try. will it worsen the situation if you keep hitting your bad leg, my foot is in full cast and heel bone is fractured and i worry that if i rest my bad foot on the floor im applying pressure or weight on it ? thank you for being a blessing and sharing this video with the bad leg side of the internet ! :~)

watched several videos on how to adjust and walk with crutches - this one is the best. Thanks so much!
Tried the stair part and busted my shit.
🤣
Fr I'm scared to do it
Going downstairs is okay but going upstairs I have landed each time on the injured ankle which hurt. I cannot get the upstairs.
Funny thing is that I can do upstairs like it’s nothing. Downstairs is the scary part, so I have yet to try that.

lots of chairs don't have arm rest. how to stand/sit with crutches on that situation? given that your other lower extremity is non-weight bearing.
Sorry for the delay I was checking with our physio. Getting off from a chair without arms would be similar to how it is shown on the video. Instead of pushing down on the arm rest, use the seat to push off with the other arm pushing down on the crutch's hand pad.
