This song is THE BabyMetal song. It has been played more live than any other song. Megitsune means Vixen. Megitsune has the same kind of derogatory connotations that Vixen has in english. This however is a female empowerment song, Beware of maidens. For this song the original music video is a must watch. In action to being very good it is also the basis for so much lore and style for BabyMetal in the years since. This song also proves that the Fox God exists. BabyMetal made an offering to the Fox God at the launch of this song, and well the results speak for themselves.
Nice reaction, thanks! "Megitsune" is one of their most loved songs and their most played live one: 359 times... and counting! It was released in June 2013 being one of their biggest hits. And yes, it's one of my very TOP favorite songs. The style sub-genre is electronicore, a mix between electronica and metalcore with a hardcore style breakdown. The melody used in the breakdown is from a well known Japanese folk song called "Sakura Sakura" (Cherry Blossoms). About the lyrics, the word "megitsune" is composed by "me" + "kitsune" meaning female + fox so, vixen. But it's not about foxes... In Japanese folklore, the "kitsune" is an entity capable to transfigure into a human form (mainly into a young lady) with the objective to deceive men and cause them pain. So, they sing that they aren't "kitsunes" but "megitsunes", "pure-hearted maiden-like female foxes", as the lyrics say. It's basically a women empowerment song. BABYMETAL fans are known collectively as "The ONE" and "kitsune" / "megitsune" individually. And this is the reason we are always like: 🤘🦊
Megitsune, the song & performance is the epitome of Babymetal. This is what Babymetal are about. My No.1 fav song. kitsune is Fox, megitsune is vixen, the One (fans) are called this too
Good one and yes 'Megitsune' is a big favourite (and certainly ranks very high among my own favourites), often coming top in fan polls and it is the song they have played live more times than any other. It was the first single they released after splitting from the parent group Sakura Gakuin to become an independent band in their own right - that was in 2013 - this video was released when Su-metal was 15, Yuimetal and Moametal were 13, about to turn 14. 'Megitsune' is also arguably the song that showcases better than most what BABYMETAL are about and one that truly reflects their Japanese culture the best starting with the traditional instruments (shamisen or koto, you decide which) in the intro and the lyrics about women being compared to foxes (kitsune - which also explains all the fox masks in the video🦊) which, in Japanese mythology, are able to shape shift and take human form (usually that of a beautiful woman) in order to deceive. It is also a bit of a push back against the traditional female role in Japanese society I think - or maybe it is - they are becoming more assertive, less subservient, but they are also praising and celebrating the women who have played that role over the years for their strength. They are saying that women wearing their make up and hiding their true feelings ("crying at heart, smiling at face") are not trying to deceive anybody, they are simply trying to please everybody - so they are not deceptive shape shifting kitsune (foxes), they are megitsune (female foxes or vixens ... the translation is confusing as we don't get the subtle differences in English) - and they are strong. The melody used in the intro and in the breakdown in the middle of the song is the exact melody from the very well known Japanese folk song called 'Sakura Sakura' (Cherry Blossoms). When Su spoke those few words and did her high kick she said "Otome wa ... nametara ikan zeyo." (Maidens ... shouldn't be underestimated). The last part of this is a famous quote from a Japanese gangster movie said by the daughter of a gang boss. Did you see BABYMETAL will be touring Europe and the UK in May next year and they are bringing their arena shows? If you didn't already get tickets for the O2 in London for the 30th don't leave it too long - it is the tour finale and the capacity is only 20,000.😉🦊
Megitsune is a great song, and their most performed . At the Apollo in London 2020, the surge and squeeze from the audience lifted me up and i ending on the side just as Moa came to that side, and i got a huge smile from her i think i call that very fortunate 😁🤘🏼🦊🤘🏼
Nice reaction. Favorite Babymetal song is like asking which kid you like better in front of the kids. LOL. I'm getting to see them soon and I hope they play this song. Which they probably will since it is one of their most played songs in concert and for good reason. It's a great song. The crowd really does wait for Su to say that line about Maidens are not to be underestimated. And when she throws the mask and whatever silliness Moa will do with Momoko now when Su picks up the mask. They really seem to be enjoying this tour. They are very happy to be back in their Metal Kingdom. The stage in front of a live audience. The foxhole is deep and full of surprises.
in the MV version of this song when Su says Maidens should not be underestimated she pulls a tanto (dagger) from her microphone. It is a quote from a gangster movie spoken by the mob boss's daughter.
In most basic terms Megitsune is a song of female empowerment. What I've picked up is that this is probably their most performed song and is a part of virtually every concert. I couldn't agree with you more about the quality of this show in particular. It's like a performance of pure perfection with every song and in every way (the ladies, band, lights, stage, audience participation). This concert is glorious. And I think I too have reached the point of just flatly declaring 'Babymetal are my favorite artists." I cannot get enough of them. Great, engaging reaction once again.
Megitsune is one of the all time fan favourite Babymetal songs, and is also their most played live song at 359 live performances. Megitsune has been used as an opener and a closer and in different spots during the show; the one consistent thing is that they play it at almost every live show. Su-metal uses Megitsune as her warm-up song, as it is one of the most vocally difficult songs in their repertoire, and she uses it to know that she is ready to perform. The music video of Megitsune is also worth a watch, because it's very well done and captures the substance of the song beautifully. Megitsune is one of Babymetal's most lyrically complex songs, being primarily a girl power anthem that pushes back against the social expectations of women in Japanese culture and asserting that they are capable of more than what society believes. In the song foxes are used as an analogy for women as both are viewed as being cunning and deceptive in Japanese culture, but they reject the proposition that women are intentionally deceptive, instead arguing that the demands placed on women require them to be actresses and hide their real feelings. The song is full of references and nods to traditional Japanese culture, such as the use of the folk melody "Sakura Sakura", while also subverting those traditions by incorporating them in to a metal song.
I think it's connected to the theme of Sakura Gakuin which was that they were all in training to become "super ladies." Megitsune is an early song just after Su graduated SG and became a "super lady." It also helps introduce the band's lore. It's arguably the #1 most beloved song by the dedicated fandom. Fun fact: The author of the music also wrote the music for Babymetal's section in Ratatata, many years later.
Nice reaction! One of my favorite songs, and this performance is excellent. Megitsune means Female Fox. They created their own musical genre, Kawaii Metal.
Babymetal will be at the O2 Arena in London in May next year. Bringing the full Babymetal experience back to the UK since the Wembley Arena in 2016. It's a final show in the 2025 Europe/UK tour.
You are right. In fact, BabyMetal, in addition to the band's name, is the musical genre they created. A musical genre with only them in it, for now. Many people think that the name of the band is because of the age of the girls, but no, it is because it is the birth of a subgenre of metal.
The genre is called kawaii metal. Not "babymetal". And there is more than only Babymetal in this genre (now). And they were called babymetal because of new genre AND because they were young.
great reaction, this week they perform for the first time in my country Chile and I will have the fortune of seeing her for 2 days, first in her solo show and the next day at the knotfest. We are very excited for the day to arrive.
Metal head for 40 years and I now only listen to babymetal as nothing else is good enough! This band have such a mix and like you said “babymetal have their own genre”
I'd love for you to continue reacting to Sakura Gakuin. Either "Song For Smiling" for another song during Su's senior year, or "Heart no Hoshi" for a song during Yui & Moa's senior year.
I'm curious if that graduation toss teaser was the full graduation or just the song live. The graduation speeches are very emotional. Also, you should check out the appreciation surprise for Su that the SG members did for Su. Very heartwarming and funny.
The song that you are calling LINE is actually IINE with two i's at the beginning and is pronounced eee-neh. I am surprised that you didn't catch on to that after listening to it because they do say eee-neh over and over again throughout the song. It means something to the nature of "good" or a variation of it.
Song name translates to “Female Fox”. It basically speaks to woman needing to play a role. Wear makeup, look beautiful and be subservient. But - they should not be underestimated! It’s a perfect babymetal concept.

It's hectic in the crowd when this song is played. Can't wait to see them again. November 21st!

This version is the best live. That screech is the pig squeals, it usually gets drowned out in the mix, but it's clearly audible in this one.
Megitsune is always fire!! 🔥🔥🤘🦊
Nice reaction! One of my favorite songs, and this performance is excellent. Megitsune means Female Fox.
They created their own musical genre, Kawaii Metal.
My second fave song. Monochrome live at PIA arena being my most fave
Now you should hear Night Night Burn ( you'll love the choreo) and probably Metalizm. Those two have unexpected influences.
This is my second favorite BABYMETAL song after Road of Resistance.
Babymetal will be at the O2 Arena in London in May next year. Bringing the full Babymetal experience back to the UK since the Wembley Arena in 2016. It's a final show in the 2025 Europe/UK tour.

Yeah, Megitsune tops fans poll really often, together with Akatsuki!
It's in my top, but not my favourite! I still prefer "Iine" 😄

Megitsune(female fox) is a word for expressing a lady cheating men.
