This song has always been a favourite of Japanese fans in particular and symbolises SU-METAL. I think the reason it hasn't been requested before is because you are a Moa fan. Akatsuki usually means dawn, but here it means crimson moon. I really hope this will be back in the setlist.
Nice one, thanks! "Akatsuki", official name "紅月 - ア カ ツ キ", is actually the contraction of "akai + tsuki" (meaning "red moon" or more specifically, crimson moon) and it's a tribute to the song "Kurenai" by X-Japan. The kanji "紅" can be also read as "kurenai" and means "crimson red" (credits to Du-Metal). This is what we call a solo song by Su-metal. Su has four solo songs on their first two albums: "Akatsuki", "Rondo of Nightmare", "No Rain no Rainbow" and "Amore". At the time, Yui and Moa also had four songs as a duo (without Su) known as Black BABYMETAL: "Onedari Daisakusen", "Yon no uta" ("Song of 4"), "GJ" and "Sis. Anger". The fight scene is the reminiscence of several past concerts so, it's a sort of fan service but it's a distraction from the amazing dueling and then harmonizing guitar solo for the general public. They played it at two of the 10 BABYMETAL Budokan in 2021 probably as the last time they perform it live. "Akatsuki" is one of my very top favorite songs of all time and it probably has the best bass lines in their whole discography. Even BOH played it during a live streaming. 🤘🦊
This is such a brilliant song and I can only wish that they return Akatsuki and Rondo of Nightmare to the playlist. Now that you’ve seen the full version, please, please, please react to Akatsuki (unfinished) version. It’s basically a piano version from the Legend 1997 show and Su absolutely kills it. I can’t watch without shedding a little tear. It really showcased Su’s skills even at 16
Agreed, although this isn't the original version of Akatsuki. It's a special arrangement for the Budokan 2021 shows with a different intro and a nod to the Unfinished version near the end, plus the 2018 Dark Side support dancers showing up during the guitar solos.
Great reaction, this is one of the four Su-metal solo songs from the first two albums (two on each) and, same as all their other songs, despite being Japanese it is not an anime opening, closing, half way through or whatever song. 'Akatsuki' is actually an homage to X Japan's 'Kurenai'. The two girls doing the fight choreo (Minako Maruyama from elevenplay and Minami Tsukui from Japan Action Enterprise) were the dancers who had supported Su and Moa on the 2018 tour when Yuimetal was still a member but unable to perform or tour with them. They were affectionately nicknamed 'Muscle Metal' by the fans. They performed their fight choreo whenever Su performed 'Akatsuki' in 2018 - they came back specially for the Budokan 2021 concerts to do it again - wearing their 2018 tour costumes. There were a couple of occasions where Su-metal had a fight with her evil doppelganger twin (a dancer dressed as her) during the guitar break - the first time was at Legend Z (early 2013). The next time "Evil Su" appeared (this time wearing the Legend D costume from 2012) was at Legend S in December 2017 (Su's 20th birthday concerts). This was the first time they had the sudden stop and silence in 'Akatsuki' where you thought the song had ended ... they borrowed that from another of Su-metal's solos 'Amore'.
The two back up dancers were known as muscle metal. They supported su and moa throughout the 2018 tour and often performed the combat portion of akatsuki , they original members of muscle metal were maruyama minako and tsukui minami. I suggest you check out babymetal distortion at download 2018. The official performance vid is on their channel. I think you would be quite suprised on the girls outfits back then 😂🦊🤘
The real tear jerker version of this song is the "unfinished" version. Performed by Su when she was 16. Amazing... th-cam.com/video/7R3h5rVxOKw/w-d-xo.html
Great reaction this time too! Su's voice goes straight to my heart. I think you felt the same way. Su has three other solo songs. "No Rain No Rainbow" "Rondo of Nightmare" "Amore" I especially love “Amore” at Wembley. I really want you to watch it. Amore - Live at Wembley in 2016 th-cam.com/video/35lj_XEjqYU/w-d-xo.html
Thanks for this reaction, it's an amazing song. A full version exists of the quiet part of just Su-metal singing: Babymetal Akatsuki Unfinished version from Legend 1997 The 2 ladies were Minami Tsukui (who is a dancer, but also an action movie actress ! just look up: 佃井皆美】佃井皆美のこの動き) and Minako Maruyama (from Eleven Play which is an experimental dance group created by the choreographer of Babymetal and others).
Hi from Ireland hope your channel continues to grow, try amore live at Wembley it's another real cool sumetal solo and once again not mentioned much for some reason 😊
Finally my favorite BM song. Su sings perfectly and looks beautiful. If you like Su's singing you should react to SHINE legend M ( Moa's Bday concert ) where you get Su ripping your heart out with her voice and yours favorite Moa with her best performance ever in a BM song (to me) making it the number one BM performance. ( because is different from everything else). Great reaction again.
If Headbanger wasn't such an incredible song, Akatsuki would be my favourite Babymetal song. I prefer the Budokan 2014 performance, but this one showcases Su's mature vocals, they're all special.
Akatsuki is another fan-favorite. It's often considered Su's magnum opus, with one or two others being considered as well. You really should check out the 'Unfinished Version' from her 16th birthday concert. (Legend 1997) It may be her most emotional performance ever. When I hear this song, I always get the feeling that it's Su's realization that, instead of having to sing songs written for others, she's now got elite composers writing songs specifically to be sung by her.
Same for me. Loved the 2016 version but after listening to both now so many times, I gotta say that the Su finally completely owns the song in the 2021 version. The piano breakdown and when the drums kick back in is one of the hypest moments. Only thing that could make 2021 version better is to have the two guitar soloists up front during the MuscleMetal battle.
@ Totally agree, 2021 is overall superior. Wembley 2016 version is actually my favorite audio-wise! But the Budokan 2014 version has a special place in my musical soul! 🤘🦊
Can you do SuMetal's solo performance of Tattoo at Rock AM Ring 2018? Its actually Kagerou but at first it was named Tattoo and it was intended to be a SuMetal solo song. Its one of my favorite performances as its unique. Theres no planned dance choreography. Just Su singing and doing her own moves. Its actually the closest to what Babymetal would look like as a more normal band with her as the vocalist and the kami band on the instruments. I think you should add it to your list of performances to react to it. Heres the best version of it. th-cam.com/video/j8miATvEezY/w-d-xo.htmlsi=f57gZ3mNCwJoWHjq
Amazing song, great performance, but I still prefer the 2014 one, in Budokan also. There 17yo Su shows the world her arsenal as a fully grown performer. The "unfinished" version, also one of my favorite, I believe there the actress Su fully embodies and radiates the feelings of the song.
You need to review babymetal from dusk till dawn budokan 2021, this song shows how good SU’s vocal range is and the song is so epic! I’ve followed this band since 2013 and this is my favourite song from any band ever! 🤘🏼🦊
The title for this song is a contraction of "akai tsuki", meaning "red moon". The spelling (紅月) is somewhat ambiguous though, and the sign chosen for "aka" (red) can also be read "kurenai" (crimson). This is an intended double meaning, and an homage to the song Kurenai by X Japan. So you will often see it called "crimson moon" in English. In fact, the somewhat unusual spelling initially made some fans think the title of the song was "benitsuki", as the sign 紅 can be read as "beni", "kurenai", "aka" or "momi". So the title is almost always written with the yomigana (clarification on intended reading) "アカツキ", which phonetically spells out A-KA-TSU-KI using katakana in addition to the kanji. Even X Japan had this issue with their song, and took to shouting "Kurenai da!" (It's Kurenai!) whenever they performed it live. This is something Su also does, shouting "Akatsuki da!" at the start, making the X Japan homage even more obvious 🙂
The two girls you saw fighting in the video were affectionately nicknamed by fans Muscle Metal when they were part of the chosen seven US tour in 2018 they are part of Mikiko Metals Babymetals choreographer dance troop ELEVEN Play and I believe One of them does stunt work for TV and movies in Japan also

my favorite baymetal song, but not my favorite version. i prefer the ones from the fox festival 2017 and budokan a couple years earlier. both of those have the guitarists dueling solos on camera instead of the staged battle scene. "rondo of nightmare" from budokan is another excellent solo sumetal song.

Nice reaction! In 2021, only Momo was still a member of the Avengers. These dancers who perform this choreography have already appeared other times in 2018, when it was only Su and Moa. Although I prefer the 2014 Budokan version, this one is very good too.
Su alone: Akatsuki, Amore, Rondo of Nightmare, and No Rain No Rainbow. Black Babymetal: Song 4, Onedari Daisakusen, Sis Anger, and GJ Oh, and they apparently just dropped a song with Bloodywood. Look for Bloodywood feat. Babymetal. It's really good.

”暁” is wrong. It means "daybreak".
"紅月” is correct. It means "red moon".
"紅”→ red
"月”→ moon
However, both are read as “akatsuki”.
I think the backup dancers (in This video) are from the Chosen Seven Era …
