    Charles Hornady said in one of his old loading manuals, if a Man could get a. 177 caliber pellet running 5,000 fps, you could drop an Elk with it, Great video thumbs up

      @@bowmanoutdoorsHi good day dear bro, do you question? You think Fx Panthera .177 cal 20 gr slug Will a 700mm beat a 600mm in the accuracy department?

    • @bowmanoutdoors
      @bowmanoutdoors  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @kricketkricket6737 I would love to get my hands on the Panthera and wanted to buy one, but I’ve already got so much invested. Judging the reviews and information I find, I think you’ll be happy with either! Slugs do better with the added stability of velocity and spin. Those two variables should perform slightly better with the 700mm barrel. With the slug in the barrel longer, a bit more of it will depend on your skill and flex in the barrel. You should get higer velocity from the 700 though. The 600mm is a bit more portable and with less length, theoretically marginally stiffer (less flex). I’d pick the 600 personally as it will get a moderator and added length and flex with that. For me, 600 is plenty unless you are going out to extreme ranges of 150yds+. If that’s the case, I’d go 700 for the added range.
      Hope this helps and great question. Thanks for your support and comments!

      @@bowmanoutdoors Thank you for your help, you have a nice, high-quality channel. I do groupman and hunting with minimum 55 yard, maximum 110 yard accuracy. For example: If I buy 600 mm and 55 yards with 1.5 sm accuracy, 70 sm and 1 sm accuracy, otherwise the same?

      @kricketkricket6737 thank you for the compliment.
      I am not sure I understand your question fully but for 55yds to 120yds, you will have no problem with the 600mm barrel. It would be my preference, but it is a personal choice.
      Pellets are a bit less expensive and less grains to choose from but should be single hole at 55 yards shooting sub 950 fps. For slugs, find the one your barrel/gun like and tune for that specific weight and you are golden!

    Great video guys! Just sub'd! So I ran a similar test with the .35 cal over on UpNorth Airgunner, but what I have found is that barrel length matters more to utilize longer barrel dwell time by runing heavier ammo at higher pressures. With other big bore airguns unregulated the valve is often held open longer with the backpressure of the slug in the barrel. Since you are running a relatively light weight projectile for that caliber it might be leaving the barrel so quickly it can't build up that barrel pressure. Try running that same test with some 45 grain to 50 grain slugs at a high reg pressure. Again - great video and I love the ending. I have a few Caldwell "4 pointers" hung in my gun room as trophies too. They taste a little game-y but make for great wall hangers! LOL!

      I’m looking at some AVS slugs to test in heavier projectiles, then realized I’m going to have to “slug” The barrel and measure so working that out now! Who knew how fun and exploratory (expensive) this could all be, but worth it to learn and spend quality time with my son! (Who showed no mercy in making fun of my “accuracy” in putting that Slug right in the numbers!!! 😂

    "Do longer barrels matter?" Yes and no. It depends what you're trying to achieve. Longer barrels will generally net you more velocity at a lower pressure- i.e. more efficiency. Typically, you CAN get the same velocities with shorter barrels, but you'll be spending more air to do it (it'll also be louder). In both cases, there's limitations. There's a point of diminishing returns with barrel length- i.e. too long, and you're doing more harm than good. With short barrels, depending on the projectile you're trying to launch and the target velocity, you may not have enough barrel to get there. It's all a balancing act.

    • @bowmanoutdoors
      @bowmanoutdoors  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You are correct. A balancing act indeed. The longer barrel also leaves the slug in contact longer so movement is the shooter or system plays a larger role. I found out I’m less accurate with the longer barrel when I thought accuracy would be improved.

A lot of people assume you get a crazy extreme spread, but you don't. The 1st stage reg holds the gun back if you want more power and a faster plenum refresh. It's a lazer, too. Since you guys both have that rail under the bottle, it might be worth getting a mount to put your chronograph there instead of on the barrel. Then you could check accuracy at the same time since it won’t mess with barrel harmonics from it hanging there. Nice rifles, I think they’re both setup well. Makes me want to pick up an M3 and sell my old one.

    I purchased an fx panthera 600 mm 22 caliber. I wanted a 700 mm but it was just too long. My question is if you switch over to 25 caliber slug liner with a 600 mm barrel can will this combination put out as much or more energy and accuracy as shooting 700 mm with a 22 cal 40 grain slug?

    • @bowmanoutdoors
      @bowmanoutdoors  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Congrats on the new Panthera. (Slightly jealous but spent all my hobby money on a compound bow setup) 😂
      Great questions. The answer to both is yes…. But it isn’t that simple. Energy is a calculation of weight and velocity so if using the same grain slug in either .22 or .25, increase in velocity will increase energy downrange. Generally, more mass would be carried with larger caliber but doesn’t have to be. Test various slugs and see which is best for your application.
      As for accuracy, I suggest starting with testing slugs, getting the best groups then dialing in the tune to the specific slug.
      We shot very tight groups with both calibers and the tuning is enjoyable process.

    • @bowmanoutdoors
      @bowmanoutdoors  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      There are so many variables for sure. Use the .22 with the barrel you have and test various slug weights and designs. We really love the NSA slugs and they come in many many weights, some flat base some cupped base. My gun shoots a cup base (few grains heavier also) slug better while Logan goes with a slightly lighter slug for the best results.
      The gun should be plenty accurate, just takes lots of testing and tinkering to find the best combination. (Precision firearms are similar with powder, BC, neck tension etc). It can be a simple or complex as you want to make it. I typically lean towards the complexity but it certainly isn’t a requirement!

      @bowmanoutdoors  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I am a huge fan of the NSA slugs. I’d get several weights from about 20gn to 38 gn and see what works best for you.
      You can tune your gun to the one that works best by adjusting the regulators, or valve spring knob. Each will basically adjust the velocity of the slug then find where the barrel harmonics works best. (Most consistent shot groups and smallest group size)
      H and N heavy slugs have also worked very well for us right out of the tin.
      No luck here with the FX Hybrid slugs
      Great question and thanks for your feedback and support.

      @@bowmanoutdoors A 40-50 bar difference refills the plenum faster than a 20-30 bar difference. FX says a 30 bar difference is more precise (lower Standard deviation)
      I go more towards 50 bc the ob of the 1st reg to take a little pressure off the 2nd reg. So 300 bar from my bottle, I let my 1st reg take roughly 100 bar off (I have it set to 210) and 2nd reg to 160 which it handle just fine.

The big wheel setting means nothing, as the micro wheel setting covers the whole range of hammer spring tension, so only the reading from the micro wheel makes any difference. Also, the front reg reading doesn't mean anything either when it comes to pellet speed, the only thing it controls is how quickly the second regulator fills up!

      Nothing dangerous, projectiles rise to a point, then fall along a curve. Optics are “zeroed” in our case on the fall of the projectile at a given distance. With the chrono set so close, the impact point was much lower than I had calculated, therefore hitting the chrono. Point of aim, trajectory, and point of impact all happen along an arc and I misjudged it.

      Thanks for the feedback and suggestions. We may have to try this one again once we complete our current two videos in work.
