Very complex job, but if you're familiar with my channel you know I don't like the drama. Like the TV shows where they show up to a wreck and dramatize on how they're going to get it done. We show up, analyze, get a game plan and execute it. Sometimes we change our plan once or twice which is OK, but it's important the team is always in sync.
@@PepesTowingService You guys always do a great job! I use to be a firefighter from So Texas and you guys do things I or my crew never thought of. Even the tow guys we worked with didn’t even think of the stuff I see you guys do.
As a retired UK container driver you'd be be suprised how common it is for a driver to forget to undo the twistlocks, easily done if your distracted. Great recovery guys.
I'm surprised it doesnt have a safety, something like 4 foot lift and pause, to verify separation (possibly garage door laser system), before full height.
I think I’ve watched too many tow truck videos as my first thought was that someone forgot to undo the container locks. Not bad for an 80 year old woman!
So was in the wrong, the driver who didn't unlock the pins or the guy with remote controlled crane WHO FAILED TO CONFIRM it was unlocked and FAILED TO READ THE WEIGHT being lifted. Probably both got fired.
@@sammartin8932it’s an automated port there’s an emergency shut off switch for those situations. Unfortunately it was the drivers fault for not unlocking pins and not paying attention.
Working at the docks for the past 22 years, I gotta say a couple of things about this incident: these happen with people behind the wheel on the straddle carrier, but it seems AI doesn't make it any different - if the twistlocks aren't fully unlocked, you're gonna lift the truck & trailer and notice it too late. Truck drivers don't always remember to open or check the twistlocks on the trailer, and this is a fairly common end result of that. As for how it ends? In about 99,9% of the cases it's the same: straddle carrier ends the shift with zero damage, the other one gets a ride on the tow truck for heavy repairs. Beautiful work with the recovery, didn't see any additional damage done to truck or trailer. Great workmanship!
I’M AN INSTRUCTOR IN ALABAMA, I TEACH THIS STUFF. I WANTED TO COMMEND YOU ON YOUR TACTICS, PRECAUTIONS, SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS AND TECHNIQUE. THIS WAS TRULY WELL EXECUTED IN A SAFE, PROFICIENT, AND EFFECTIVE MANNER. WELL DONE. I SHALL USE THIS VIDEO FOR MY STUDENTS TO OBSERVE. KUDOS GUYS.
hey man,,, i would love to see a vid on how you guys maintain your stuff .. cause its got to be 100% everytime which means your inspection and MNR got to be a top priority ...not to mention your trucks look so clean and shiny !!
The rigging and geometry of the forces all has to be visualized before something like this can be pulled off. Beautiful recovery. You guys make those rotators do a waltz while holding a tractor in mid-air.
That is my favorite part too! Here's a secret, that part was Dave's idea. He told me on the headset to rotate each truck in the opposite direction, and bam magic happened.
A great technically challenging job....good thing it wasn't crazy busy in that area at the time. And the truck still looks driveable depending how far back the bumper got tweaked. The run back over the bridge at night all empty...it is a pretty sight to see🙂 High fives to you both!!
Amazing job and truly two professionals showing those folks at the port how to get the job done!! Best part is everyone went home safe and not another scratch added to that damaged rig!!
Great work on this one. It's especially great you were able to dislodge the back of the trailer without being able to directly rig to it. With that suspended container hanging above, you couldn't go back into that area. Some might not think of the "thou shalt not work underneath a suspended load" rule, which made your job tougher (but safer).
You hit it on the head. We COULD HAVE rigged to the rear and pulled it, but we could have caused more damage brute forcing it that way. The way we did it by rotating the front back and forth gently allowed it to break free without any damage.
I love this new equipment, back when I drove ( mid80's to 90's)we did recovery with a lot more risks. Since I was the skinny one I often had to do much of the rigging. You seem to have a great team and some of the best skills as well as equipment.
@@PepesTowingService 4i mnutes of show, 2 minutes commercials, and they repeat the last part of the previous segment. Lol. I would have liked to see the wide view of the 2 rotators though
Just found this channel. Wow! Imagine the skills involved here--physics of lateral forces, lever action, angular momentum, transfer of stresses, not to mention calculating the various materials’ weights and strengths, all while being in potentially dangerous settings from spilled fuel and sparks and doing it all with million dollar complex machines. I am in awe! Way more exciting than any stunt movie. 👍🏻👏💪🏻
Super glad to know that Billy was able to give you the the equipment that is necessary for all this great videos you’re making I’ve been an arborist for over 30 years start shopping at Bailey’s back in the 1990s.
Always nice to go into a closed place and pull off a good job, they will call you back another time. They still have plenty of people working in the yard tho.

Nice that you have built your business correctly that you can have the best equipment, and do these tricky jobs. I admire your work ethic. You seem to have a lot of fun with these challenges. Wish I could work for you! Signed, former business manager.

Exactly what the semi driver said before his truck was tossed…
Well, how was the robot supposed to know the driver didn't want to go with the container? He's the one who's supposed to unlock the pins.
