Another trick if you have little Mica flakes in your gold pan, and you want to make sure they are not gold, is to drag them around the bottom of your gold pan with your finger tip. Push kind of hard. The mica will break up into little powder, the gold will not. Mica flakes also float around with a little bit of swirling where gold won't do that nearly as much.
Your famous on and off YT. Great video on how to use the bucket. Love all your videos and maybe one day I will try it with my grandson or son. Thanks Shane for all you do for us.

Watching this episode again. Damn shame that YT doesn't allow people to give a second thumbs up. I've gone through hundreds of comments and it doesn't look like I'd left one so I will now. This is the video Klesh that made me go out and purchase the bucket 5 yrs ago. Still haven't used it yet lol but I plumbed up a small watering system and 1100 gph pump to it.
Another great video - thanks! I was looking forward to watching your video out on the river with the Nugget Bucket. Time to do a side by side test comparison - nugget bucket vs sluice box!
I think the Gold Rush Nugget Bucket is great, especially in places where sluice boxes are prohibited, and in places where there is not enough flow to support a sluice box, it is also great for testing. Every prospector should have one. The only reason it will not replace a sluice box for me is that I can run more material with a sluice box.
Maybe it's been said already, (I'm seeing this 4 years after it debuted)...but I would bring along a small battery powered bilge pump, attach a hose from the pump to the top of the bucket, and have constant water, so I didn't have to continually bend over to refill lots of buckets of water...
Maybe it would be easier if you filled the small bucket with water and put the large classifier there (or your new wire classifier), then transfer the classified dirt to the main bucket with the smaller classifier. seems like that top classifying part takes the longest to clear. you need to pour the water in, then shake real quick before it disappears. you have more time on the second screen.
How do you know if this is better than a sluice box without using a control? You'd need to run the exact same material through both processes to determine if one is better than the other.
Have you tried doing this with seeded paydirt to insure the cons are being collected in the collector container? In michigan we have super fine flower gold and I'm curious how good this would work with super fine flour gold.

It's worse used to the fact of how much material your left to pan through. Once your trap fills up with fine sand it stops catching gold. Especially back sand. Which as you saw would not take long. I find that one smooth rocking the center works much better then a hand full and the best use for it is a back up on my blue bowl, as long as you remove the black sand first. It is great for prospecting but once your on gold it does not beat a gold cube or sluice unless you really really like panning. Thanks for the video, great work.
Yet another comprehensive and informative video from you sir! I’ve wondered about using this inside of a large tub of water so as to reuse the water continuously. Something that might work well where any type of mechanical (gas, electric, or even manual pumps) assisted mining is not allowed. Any thoughts on that? And I do agree with you that a smaller mesh classifier would be beneficial, just maybe not quite as fine as 30 mesh. I think you would run the risk of throwing out some larger flakes if you go too fine.

I think I can be more efficient if I am going to be on the river all day using a full size classifier, and the regular 5 gallon bucket and a sluice box. With the "nugget bucket' you only have a small maybe one quart container before you are stopping to clean up. With the traditional method you are only having to clean up maybe 2 or 3 times a day depending on how much black sand builds up in the riffles of the sluice box. Also, when you are shoveling your material in the "nugget bucket" you lose a lot of time and energy continuously pouring water over the material to classify it. Maybe I'm just old school, but I'm gonna stick to the tried and true sluice box method. Love your videos. Keep up the good work!
I actually agree here with you saying you rather use the sluice box. I prefer the old school way too, it's more relaxing and you get a break instead of constantly pouring water and shoveling. Someone mentioned down in the comments here that if you were to place the nugget bucket under a small waterfall or a recirculator of some sort, that would cut the work in half. I might have to try that. Thanks for the comment
KleshGuitars My brother, why would you want to carry a battery, bildge pump and everything else? If you're gonna carry that much equipment, I would carry a 12V recirculating highbanker. Not many places that I go that has a waterfall😄😀😄 Keep on putting out great videos. You do honest reviews, and that's what is important to guys like me!
Hi Shane... Just a quick question from a newbie...Do I need to empty the concentrates tub when its full, or can I work it and get it over flowing to get super rich concentrates. I would taking the potential paydirt home to work it....Loving your work buddy...bex
I would not chance it and just empty the tub every time it fills up. You’ll be able to see the darker heavier material at the bottom but if the thing fills up with dark material then you’ve probably gone too far
I was thinking that you had forgotten your shovel the whole time you were coming back across the river. lol Glad you remembered to retrieve it! I could see in lots of places that could be easier to pack in, set up, and operate. whereas a Sluice you have to spend time setting it up correctly with the proper angle and water flow, Plus you need several buckets to to run a sluice anyway. Pioneer Pauly should look into one of these since he can't run a sluice box in his Canadian Province. Great review and take care.
Pauly could if he was on the Fraser River....and not inside provincial parks. A home depot bucket with two stacking classifier pans works well too, just fill the bucket with water...fines fall into the bucket. It's all I do, works well and much cheaper.
it would never replace a sluice box because it doesnt refine the material as far down. and a sluice box will handle much more material before change out
I wonder if you connected a hand dredge hose through the bucket lid of this? Pump smaller material through and have it classified at the same time...rest your arms as you empty the concentrates, pan later...then sit on the bucket as you pan, it does look comfy!

Not sure that we’d invest in one of those buckets but they do seem like they do the job. I think I can run a bucket with a classifier then sluice about as fast. We were at that same spot last year after we purchased an Angus MacKirk sluice from a shop in Golden, CO. We were on that exact sand bar just above where you were. Great video Klesh
I like it. I tried designing something kind of like it, but it didn't work nearly as well as the Gold Rush Nugget Bucket. Think I'll get one. Thanks bro for another great video.
I’ve never seen any of your videos before. For some reason yours popped up on my suggested, so I decided to check it out. It’s a weird coincidence that you meet someone from Kentucky, as that’s where I’m from.
Well, nobody wants to pan a whole bucket of concentrate. That's why a sluice is used after you classify material to concentrate so the big rocks don't ruin your box and knock the gold out of the sluice. Thanks for the video.
I am a bit late in commenting, but I do not see this replacing the sluice. With the sluice, you can set it up and classify your stuff straight from the hole into the sluice and take the bucket right out of the Equation. For me I usually set up in the middle of the creek and just start scooping the creek bed into my pan, then right into a classifier that sits on the open end of my sluice. The constant water flow allows me to quickly shake out the classifier and toss the excess while the dirt naturally runs its course in the sluice. Just set the classifier back at the open end of the sluice and scoop another healthy heaping of creek bed into it and repeat. You can get through several full buckets worth pretty fast without even using a bucket until final clean up.
Hi.will it keep catching gold even when the catch bowl is over flowing? In other words how much material can you process between clean outs.I only tried mine today and found that the catch bowl was over flowing with just one good sized shovel. If I have too clean out after every shovel a simple pan is faster.
@@Klesh Coming in one year later this is useless to us. You should link to the video in question, otherwise people will just google the device and thus not use your discount code.
Kind of reminds me of a rocker box, you may need more water but you can recycle water easier than a sluice if you're not in the river. I think if you scale up a sluice is more efficient. The smaller any trap the more restrictions it will have, and when you go bigger a simple setup becomes more profitable and is easier to manage.
The only thing I can see why it won't replace a sluice is because you can't put the same volume of sand through it before having to pan, maybe for test pans to go through test holes quick, but if you're digging on straight black silt bars and glacial till, then you would have to change the bottom out too often, and wouldn't be able to handle larger volumes.. great for kids and just pan trips though..
I live in south western Ohio. Gold has been found in the creeks here around Clermont County Adams County most likely throughout the state. Something like it would come in handy here where I live. I think it would be perfect for somebody like me. I live in an apartment on the third floor carrying a bucket back-and-forth instead of a sluice box and all the other gear I would need makes more sense.
The advantage that I see to the Nugget Bucket would be in areas such as Lynx Creek in Prescott, AZ. The Forestry Service does not allow sluicing or metal detecting on Lynx Creek in the National Forest. As the Nugget Bucket accomplishes the same (or similar) production level to a sluice, this would allow for greater movement of dirt. Maybe a drive south to Prescott could be one of your next adventures.......
Looks like parts didn't get stuck that's great. I wonder how it would work with dirt or mud like we have here in Virginia along with the gravels. Seems to me the funnel would prob get clogged. Hence most use sluices and hand break up clay mud and dirt. Very curious to see mud or clay broken up in it to see if it clogs that tiny funnel. Otherwise with just gravels looks great. Ty very much Shane for the river test most informative.Pan on all. P.s wonder if a lemon would go through it LOL.
I have one that I use with a regular 10 mesh bucket classifier in top. It hold more material. Dont have to take out the small classifirers each time ro throw out the big rocks.
"Mr Dude" was digging on the wrong side- He must have missed the video about checking your area BEFORE you go prospecting...First who owns it- and if there are any claims or strange rules...I still think you would had the exact amount of concentrates if you would had just used a screen..in-fact when you pulled the cup out- you had blonde sand on the top- yet it looked liked there was black sand in the bottom of bucket...meaning the cup filled up and eventually was dumping all material over the top..would think just that spinning motion of the cup would only clean off the top layer...Personally sticking with my screens and sluice box..great video as always...
That’s how the nugget bucket works... you’re want the blinds on the top and black sands on the bottom. That cup is a fluid bed when water is running into it....meaning all the material is behaving as a fluid. Since gold and black sand are heavy they sink and the lighter material is forced up and out.... so until that cup fills. Completely so until that cup is filled with black sands and gold you can continue running material. It’s works on the fluid bed principles and specific gravity.
He did not put a good layer of the marble sized rocks in the cup to do the small gold the best. It works as a fluid bed, dropping the heavies to the bottom as the water down force stirs the cup up. It is the Fly poop size gold and flour gold that I wonder about yet. So yes black sands will go over the cup, if you ran just black sand it would catch gold and eject black sand out.
best explanation yet Richard- Was still having a problem rapping my brain around how it worked....I can Finally see where more stones would have given the black sand and Gold a chance to "Drop" out...and why the black sand had concentrated on only one side of the cup before spilling over.
I've been to Arap bar a few times but have recently started going a few miles further towards denver down clear creek. But I kept getting those shiny flakes at the bar and the guy at Gold-N-Detectors wasn't sure what it was either. Are those flakes just mica that came loose from rocks??
KleshGuitars I gave him a piece that we had. He said he would take it to a meetinf at the group that he's apart of. I think he said it was called the Clear Creek Mineral and Ore Association. I have a pic of it but I'm not sure how to share a pic inside a TH-cam comment. I gave it to him maybe a week ago but I live in SOCO and haven't been up to the shop again
You could use these in a clapseable tub to if yo have some thing to put inside the tub to elevate the nugget bucket. So that way you just use the water in the tub until the material builds up.then you remove the waste material and add water.ive actually used it out in the desert.in a tub of water.i brought my own water.their was no water out their.
Sluicing allows you to run more material thru before doing a clean up. If you are just prospecting then this bucket is a cool idea but it is not ideal for running quantity.
I like to take it apart because small pieces of sand and gravel get between the classifiers and the funnel piece. It only takes a second to break apart anyway. Thanks for watching
Why not submerge the bucket and then spin the classifier? Im a little confused as to why they're worried about the gold blowing out. I feel like if you submerged the bucket, with the opening facing up stream (out of a heavy current though), then the gold would stay, and you wouldnt need to put buckets of water. I just stumbled upon your channel, so im not sure if youve made a video on this yet, but you should test out the "flowpan" by gold hog. Hands down the best prospecting equipment i have ever tried.
Hi Rodney thanks for the comment. So the gold rush nugget bucket needs to be above water for it to work correctly. Directly below the classifiers there's a funnel above the concentrate cup, with just the right distance to allow water flowing down in to the cup. This is what keeps the gold in and pushes the lighter stuff out. I suppose being submerged would work but trying to keep that bucket in one place might be more work than needed. Plus you'd have to bend down that much further. Anyway hope this answers your question. Also the flowpan looks like it works great. I haven't used one yet but will avoid it if possible. Just watching someone use it looks like back pain city. I have back injuries from the service to it's difficult for me to bend, so that's the first thing I look at when purchasing a new product.
KleshGuitars i saw that i was wondering how much got through when in action and running that amount of water through it. Thanks for the response man !! Happy hunting
Shane!!! I was there that day! it was my first time, and thinking back I had thought I saw you but wasn't sure. you asked me how it was going and commented on it being a beautiful day. ahhhh i should have asked if it was you, but i was shy. lol
Really enjoyed this video, good show and tell. Seems to me after watching so many gold videos you captured quite a lot of concentrate in a very short time; but I think like you the sluice could be more fun as you watch it build concentrate in the ribs; but again, the Nugget Bucket is more economic bettin' it's cheaper than a sluice and ten times faster producing concentrate. I think I'm gonna get one. Thanks.
I think you answered your own question. You get a break when you feed a sluice. I would like to try one because I don't like to stop just go go go. Thanks for taking me on your adventure.

I was pretty surprised how well it worked. I think it needs another few days on the river
Awesome I bought one a few years ago just don't get to use it much anymore like running my dredge to much. But they do work for sure
Cool!
LoL...kewl. I purchased this "kit" to play around with this up coming summer. I was glad to see your review of it.
Lol, I was going to ask if you made the video and when you where going to put it out. Great job brother as always.
Always a step ahead haha thanks man
I've been watching your videos for years now I like watching them
happy you posted what I asked last video! Thanks Klesh! Great video man
Glad you liked it thanks for watching
I’ve never seen any of your videos before. For some reason yours popped up on my suggested, so I decided to check it out. It’s a weird coincidence that you meet someone from Kentucky, as that’s where I’m from.
Cool well thanks for clicking on it, I have plenty of fun videos.
Seems like a modern version of the cradle.
Thanks John Koeberlein for watching!
That's so funny you found a fan out there! Sounds like you need to get them as a sponsor since you like them so much.
Yea every time I go there someone says Hi it's pretty cool
Hey I don't know your location but why can't you work on that one side of the river?
I think because there is a public hiking trail on that side and it might be land owned by the state not 100% sure
There's a paved bike trail up there, and we don't want to dig under it for safety reasons.
@@Klesh hey man thanks for the answer
well done , great video my friend :)
Thanks Goldwaschen in Deutschland glad you enjoyed it!
KleshGuitars You need to upload better quality video. Advice from new subscriber, nice find for ten minutes though.
Well, nobody wants to pan a whole bucket of concentrate. That's why a sluice is used after you classify material to concentrate so the big rocks don't ruin your box and knock the gold out of the sluice. Thanks for the video.
Thanks Stephen Starr for watching!
10 minutes for that that was a good haul. Thanks again for your vids 👍👍👍👍
Thanks Jeremiah Brockopp for watching!
Great video! This is so compact and easily portable I'm going to get one and try it out thanks for a cool video man.
Thanks David Lopez for watching!
That’s a good idea to have the classifier on the sluice. Kind of like a fluid bed sluice which is even easier.
Hi.will it keep catching gold even when the catch bowl is over flowing? In other words how much material can you process between clean outs.I only tried mine today and found that the catch bowl was over flowing with just one good sized shovel. If I have too clean out after every shovel a simple pan is faster.
Nope, the gold is heavier than everything else so the gold will stay .
Hey dude I have a question I seen a neat wirebasket classifier on one of your broadcasts where can I get my hands on one of them
That was about 2 or 3 videos ago. Check that video's description, there's a link and a discount code as well. Discount code is "SKPROSPECT"
KleshGuitars ok thanks
@@Klesh Coming in one year later this is useless to us. You should link to the video in question, otherwise people will just google the device and thus not use your discount code.
bashpr0mpt I use those classifiers in almost every video, and I link every product I use in each video.
Reminds me of a rocker box
would it make sense to crush the rocks? like a ton of them, or select ones
Yeah, check my "Crushing Quartz for Gold" video, you'll see what rocks to crush for gold.
I agree Chase Carter, and thanks for watching!
Beautiful day out on the river. Great video. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks 5280 Adventures glad you enjoyed it!
Great video man. That was cool running into a fan. That dude was stoked. 😀
Yeah man, he was for sure. Thanks glad you liked it.
Nice show! Was that route 225 in the back ground in Colorado and Platt river?
I-70 right there are Arapahoe Bar
The only thing I can see why it won't replace a sluice is because you can't put the same volume of sand through it before having to pan, maybe for test pans to go through test holes quick, but if you're digging on straight black silt bars and glacial till, then you would have to change the bottom out too often, and wouldn't be able to handle larger volumes.. great for kids and just pan trips though..
Hey Shane I hope you see this as I'm thinking about buying one 3 years after your vid posted lol. Do you still feel it's worth buying?
Nah, save your money and get a regular sluice. This was impressive at first, but all the plastic parts I don't think it'll last very long.
Have you done a comparison with a slice box in a controlled environment? Or do you know if anyone has?
Skip this! Found it!! Sorry for jumping the gun!
Nice!
😀
I reckon this is brilliant for holiday makers who want to come to the states & pan for gold. Too film buddy very clear. Great.
Thanks Ian Stacey glad you enjoyed it!
Looks like great, the downside looks be your standing up for 45mins to 60mins at time
Yeah the standing and constant work makes it a better machine, but not as great on the back. Thanks for watching!
Good review on the bucket. Thanks for the info.
Thanks Mattoishere for watching!
I do plan on trying Arizona possibly this year. Thanks!
I used to go out to Lynx when up in preskit! Did i sluice? You’ll never know. 😛
I will not be testing this with a lemon.
Crazy to see how quick the channel is growing...good job
I agree The Blue kiwi, and thanks for watching!
Ah he just carries a spare guitar pic with him while prospecting, 😂
i think it like has his logo on it. he gets recognized by a lot of people and he gives all of them the picks
@@terryelder9573 he a good dude
I have one that I use with a regular 10 mesh bucket classifier in top. It hold more material. Dont have to take out the small classifirers each time ro throw out the big rocks.
nice!
I hope you found more than you did in the Home Depot sand bags......I'm just messing with you. I enjoyed the video and learned some new things.
Yeah I noticed that too. Thanks for the comment and for watching
How could you not notice, and wasn't it more important to inform him, than to offer a guitar pick?
Cool video. Never had heard of that bucket till now, pretty cool!
I've been to Arap bar a few times but have recently started going a few miles further towards denver down clear creek. But I kept getting those shiny flakes at the bar and the guy at Gold-N-Detectors wasn't sure what it was either. Are those flakes just mica that came loose from rocks??
If it was mica Bill should've been able to identify them. Not sure what you're finding but cool to hear you were on the river!
Kleash, I just started panning. Any advice for a newby?
Sure, watch my most recent video (June 26th 2019 release) and it should help you learn some basics.
Sluicing allows you to run more material thru before doing a clean up. If you are just prospecting then this bucket is a cool idea but it is not ideal for running quantity.
Can you pull the concentrates through that big hole to do a clean up or do you have to break it apart
I like to take it apart because small pieces of sand and gravel get between the classifiers and the funnel piece. It only takes a second to break apart anyway. Thanks for watching
“Also, this here can be used as a seat - looks really comfortable…”
*_yeet_*
Think this would be perfect for a amateur like myself. Seems easy enough to use. 450k views nice!. Great video buddddy. Till next one!
Any gold detector you recommend? Thank you for the great video
I have back injuries from the service to it's difficult for me to bend, so that's the first thing I look at when purchasing a new product.
could you test the tailings that come out of the bottom of the large bucket and see if any gold floats out from the small cup?
I did that in my initial test (the previous video) thanks for watching!
KleshGuitars i saw that i was wondering how much got through when in action and running that amount of water through it. Thanks for the response man !! Happy hunting
were is this at I couldn't find it when i was there last week did go to apparahoe park off of youngtown road and I70 great videos friend
Yeah it's right where 170 and Youngfield st cross clear creek. There's a parking lot and a short paved trail to the gold panning area.
Shane!!! I was there that day! it was my first time, and thinking back I had thought I saw you but wasn't sure. you asked me how it was going and commented on it being a beautiful day. ahhhh i should have asked if it was you, but i was shy. lol
Oh yeah, I remember you! You were digging in the dirt like a pro! Cool seeing you and next time you'll know it's me.
I totally will!!!
Thanks.
Thanks trumpsahead glad you enjoyed it!
I think you answered your own question. You get a break when you feed a sluice. I would like to try one because I don't like to stop just go go go. Thanks for taking me on your adventure.
Thanks Dirt:30 with George for watching!
Thats Legit......💯💯💯💯i agree with him as i learned all i know from you. Soon i will be there when i make my way home to Colorado. Keep up the good work brother.......hooah
Cool thanks for the comment
KleshGuitars anytime brother.
You should try using a bait pump to fill the bucket.
Good Idea Ben LePage! Thanks for watching!
cool river test Klesh - I made a bucket like this ("like this") out of a Home Depot bucket before I ever saw this or anything like it. The video of it is on my channel
Thanks Finding Treasure in Colorado for watching!
I keep seeing purple in your tailings and concentrate, is Amethyst common in your area or is that some sort of purple quartz?
Amethyst is purple quartz, and no, I've never seen any at Arapahoe Bar (where he is).
Never say Amethyst there, just lots of Quartz and Garnet
it was cool to see that nuget bucket in action and i think for me as a begginer this product will be enough to teach how to prospect
I agree Pan Złotko, and thanks for watching!
