9 Signs You Have Toxic Mold In Your Home

  • Is mold inside your home bad for your health? Mold growing on fruit and bread is easy to see, but mold growing in your home isn’t obvious at all. If you’re feeling unwell and showing a variety of symptoms you can’t explain, it’s worth learning whether mold could be causing your bad health. It wouldn’t be a surprise since a hidden mold problem is common in many homes.
If you’re unsure whether there’s mold in your home, think about whether you usually feel better at work or when you’re out doing chores. That can be a tell-tale sign that your home is secretly an unsafe environment. Mold can wreck your health, so be wary, folks.

    SUMMARY:
    - As mold grows, it releases microbial volatile organic compounds, which are known to smell particularly rank. Sniff around your home. If you catch a musty whiff, follow the smelly trail.
    - A report conducted in 2004 by the Institute of Medicine found that mold can be directly responsible for problems with the upper respiratory tract, and it can be the reason for chronic coughing.
    - Exposure to mycotoxins from black mold can also affect your muscles and joints. Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (CIRS) is a condition that can be caused by mold.
    - Mold can have many different appearances. It can be spots on a wall, discoloration, dark rings, and stains. The spots aren’t always black; they can also be green, orange, brown, and white.
    - Mold tends to cause symptoms similar to seasonal allergies. As people attribute their sickness to allergies, mold can continue to spread in their home.
    - A study conducted in 2011 and published in the Annals of Allergy, Asthma, & Immunology journal found that when a one-year-old child is exposed to mold in their home, there is an increased chance of them having asthma by the time they are 7 years old.
    - Mold doesn’t just affect your sinuses. People with mold allergies can experience skin that is red and itchy all the time. Some of the strongest allergic reactions can include rashes and hives.
    - Maybe a simple thing like remembering where you left your keys or giving all your concentration to one task seems impossible lately. To a certain extent, mold can make you mentally fatigued, disoriented, and forgetful.
    - If your eyes are lovely but nowadays always look bloodshot, mold could be causing their irritation. When pores are floating around in your home, they find a direct entry into your body through your eyes.
    - You can take a simple urine test to reveal whether there are mycotoxins in your system. If there are, a doctor can guide you through the recovery process.
    - Schedule a test with a mold testing company. They’ll be able to inspect your entire home and reach places you can’t get to.

When you cough up phlegm in a Kleenex, put the kleenex in a plastic Ziploc bag, put the bag in a dark place for 72 hours. If the phlegm is black or green, your house is infested with mold. Put out an empty orange juice bottle, don't rinse it clean, if mold grows in it within 72 hours, there's a lot of mold in your house. It's almost the same as one of those mold test kits you buy at the store. Check for water damage or dampness in your basement and attic. Ear infections, fungus toenail are signs of mold. So is fatigue and anxiety.

Most doctors aren’t going to diagnose that you might be allergic to mold because many people believe mold isn’t something that can cause issues or even grow in your house. This is always annoying.

Their vet asked them about whether they're indoor and/or outdoor. The animals prefer outdoors ( even in winter). The vet stated that they need to check the house completely. Sure enough mold

The internet is such an invaluable tool that is just amazing. Things that only the doctor could tell you (I am not saying you can self-diagnose EVERYTHING) was wrong, now you can find on the net. If you know what the issue is, than its time to start researching and taking action against mold yourself. The same goes for any other problems you may have. Pharma is also in it for the money, so again research alternatives to health issues if your doctor is basically going to lead you astray or tell you to shove off.

Toxic mold is a major problem in modern homes. The mold is not always from leaking pipes. The majority of American homes built in the last 30 years have vinyl siding. Vinyl siding is NOT water proof. It is not even water resistant. The air barrier behind it is usually shiney cardboard or a mesh plastic vapor barrier. The excess moisture comes from outside in , the overall design is supposed to wick the moisture outside but is insufficient when wet weather is extreme or long term. I worked as a contractor for 20 plus years in the home building industry. Seriously, if you have these symptoms get your home tested by an expert. Hire a testing company that does NOT do remediation. You are more likely to get an honest assessment.

I agree, I haven’t been feeling well for a while now. I’ve been having all of the these symptoms and then some. The doctor has done other tests but because they come back as not showing much they think I’m crazy and imagining things. I can see mold on my wall and I’ve bought stuff to fix the problem but I need a roof guy to come in and find out how it’s getting into my wall before I replace the stucco on the inside. It only shows inside as a 1 foot patch, but (like they said) it could be a much bigger problem behind the wall.
Recently when we have had to turn on the air conditioner other members of my family have been having fatigue, and allergy issues. So it needs to go.

Yes yes yes. Found out I was working around MOLD so quit my job. After 3 days of work felt like I was getting flu every week. Did this for years. Figured I would get better. Did a little bit but still wasn't 100. Then I realized it was apartment as well. So I moved into another apartment in same complex. Was so excited. Took everything I me to do this. About 6 weeks ago I got a really bad Sinus Infection. Figured maybe heat. I'm sicker now then ever. Looked in my AC vents & realized its covered in mold. Sounds unbelievable. I'm seriously on verge of having a breakdown. I'm miserable and don't know what to do.

Yes ive had this happen to me. Ive had days where i have slept all day or night and still feeling tired and sleepy. I live in a 140 year old historic house in new orleans. The weather duri g most of the year is very humid specially during the summer. There is defenetly a mold problem in this house. The musty smell is so intense specially during the summer even though there are central ac units working non stop. The smell even clings to your clothes. U become nose blind after being inside of the house for long but after being out of the house for a whole day its when u notice how bad the smell is. The problem with these old houses is that they were built in a time where air conditioner didnt exist however the arquitects back then knew that ventilation was important to cope with hot monrhs so inside the walls and ceilings there are channels of open space that often led to vents or to the crawling space. All of those have been shut since air conditioner has been installed but its imposible to completely make the house air tight. Whats happened is that the cold air from the ac meets with warm air moist air from outdoors in between the walls condensating producing water that has created a colony of mold. Even on the edges of the old windows u see the trail of mold that forms where there is warm air leaking inside. It is just bad. Ive develop a bad skin allergy earlier this year. I get extremely itchy and scratching makes it even worse and my skin feels so warm and sensitive ive had to start taking antihistamine which ive never had to before. At first i thought i was allergic to the laundry detergent spending dollars in switching to other detergents and washing everything. Then i thought maybe im allergic to msg or any particular food. Ive tried everything for this entire year and nothing . But today i did discover the mold stains have grown exponentially in many windows and spent time cleaning them and also sprayed one of those anti bacterial and anti mold sprays graded for hospitals with the fan a full speed. I felt my constant itchinnes all over my body diminished exponentially. I dont know if it was a placebo efffect or im going crazy at this point but certainly feel the difference. Could it have been the mold thats been causing this itchines and letargy and brain fog and anxiety and red eyes? Im almost sure it has been. I know that spraying that product and removing the mold stains wont solve the problem permanently as mold will continue to grow back. At least until the cold weather arrives but i may have been able to reduce the micotoxis that were being generated by all the mold i cleaned. Anyhow ill wait two more days to monitor how itchy i feel as well as the other symptoms to confirm.

Did your symptoms go away fully? Unless there was a known major leak in the home at some point.. Mold in the walls with no current moisture source is very overblown and is used as fear mongering by mold remediation companies.

      Hi Lynn,
Ask your Dr for a cat scan of your lungs and for 3 sputum sample bottles so you can have the mucus you cough up tested in a lab. This could be a serious lung condition. I am seeing a lung specialist who thinks I have NTM from mould (a very serious lung condition and I don’t cough much). If your Dr won’t do that for you find a Dr who will.

Read below a teacher showed this to the kids. This is truly educational. So many people are so so ill and it can be a home that is toxic with mould, poor ventilation, roofs hsrbouring years of dust and airconditioners or heaters toxic. I hope we re design showers as the present day ones are horrendous considering people dont have the luxury of cleaning it rvery day. Now homes are so glitzy but not practical.

my doctor (after i did the research] ordered a lab test for mycotoxins, and interestingly the labs (labcorp and quest) don't do that. why not? Who doesn't want you to know if you have mold going through your bloodstream?I don't understand. And I am too sick to keep fighting the medical community (which made me sick to begin with...HA septic shock and HA double pneumonia due to a kidney stone!!!!) I become more convinced with each passing day that no one cares if 'elderly' people (esp single females over 60) die and that there is some type of agreement to give us the bare minimum of care. I worked for 45 years and paid my dues...these were supposed to be the best years of life. Retire and relax. That is not happening; it is more like fight to survive and stay out of a nursing home.

My left eye is sometimes red, itchy, painful, I even cough, sneeze. I have seen 1 opthalmologist, 3 eye doctors and I have been told I have an allergy of which they haven't said which allergy. I only get prescribed medication. For some years now the bedroom wall has changed colour to blackish. I was told that's mold on the wall that is brought about by moist and water from.the ground. I have now concluded that it might be toxic mold that's affecting my eye.
