I’ve always thought that Spector basses looked really cool and sounded awesome, and this video continues to prove my point. Also that jam at the beginning sounded incredible, I loved the tones you guys got
I just realized why Nathan looks so familiar. I've spent dozens of hours watching and transcribing his older brother play slap bass solos. The family resemblance is rather strong. Went back and watched a few level 42 videos online and sure enough there's Nathan playing some wicked guitar. Super cool to see him here
I swear you guys get more melodic and the tone gets more engaged with me and all of us with each new Bass video! Tone reminds me of John Myung I'd say! Awesome showcase!
RC32 Nice, he is definitely a madman on the thing. The first time I heard his playing on Metropolis Part 1 my mind was literally blown, that bass solo is freaking insane
Congratulations on making these basses sound pleasing. Every other demo is incredibly bright and clanky where you can hardly hear the bass tone from all the noise.
Actually, I think you are wrong when you say that these Spectors are meant primarily for rock playing. Especially the Emg - equipped bass sounds terrific under a more funky situation. Thanks for the versatile test/presentation
Seppo Innanen I agree. They are very versatile. The range of tones is wide. Had to tame the mids for me. I found the Analysis Plus Bass Oval cable to work well. It tames the high mids a bit and brings out the lower mids. It is a very musical cable. I like the balance string to string of volume and tone of my Euro 5. The high notes still sound full.
SUGGESTION: When you gentlemen are twisting each other's knobs, could you please do it more SLOWLY? The thing is, when one of you is down there fiddling with the other fellow's knob, you're changing the sound so quickly that we, the viewers, can't really get a decent read on what sounds are being produced. By the time we're wondering if we hear something we really like, it's gone, and we're left not knowing whether it was ever really there. It's frustrating. Bearing that in mind, might each of you please consider taking a more controlled approach to manipulating the the other gentleman's knob? I can see the eagerness is a strong compulsion, but I'm just requesting a bit of restraint. I think you'll find that, if you're just a bit less eager, you'll be able to bend down there, take hold, and achieve a better, more pleasing result -- and that's what we're all looking for, right? So, summing up: Relax, go slow, get in there there, place your hand on the knob, and don't be in such a hurry!
Spector basses are easily the best basses out there. I've played a hell of a lot of basses in my time including Fender, Warwick, Musicman and Status and nothing comes close to Spector - both in terms of build quality and sound.
@@stevemccambridge5947I’ve had 17 Stingrays and 4 Spectors and played a lot more of both. Neither have ever defecated while I was playing them… And certainly not over each other!
Spector make great bass guitars. They will rock as hard as you want them too, Ian Hill of Judas Priest uses them. They did the rear carve before Warwick, no doubting that.
They did warwick did the streamer in 87 while spector and ned did it in the NS2 in 1984 i remember correctly. Orignally there was a disbute about it and warwick was paying spector to use the design but that fell off after stuart spector sold the company to Kramer and warwick changed the headstocks and bridge (to what it is today which looks like a copy of the alembic bridge imo)
The NS design dates back to 1977. That includes the curved body and offset strap button. NS-2 bass dates back to 1979. Spector did it first, end of story.
The blue on the Euro LT is gorgeous. When I showed it to my fiancée, she said "start saving up. You're buying one for yourself after we get back from our honeymoon"
Such great tone and awesome instruments - but I don't know why Spector insists on using so much gold hardware! Looks gaudy IMO and seems to corrode faster than other colors. I think these basses would be much better served with black hardware.
Really, only the bridge corrodes. Aldo, it is not difficult to restore the gold plated bridge from corrosion. Also, imo, the gold hardware works great pairing with some finishes and black pairs best with others.
I hear a lot of fret grind. Doesn't anyone set their basses up for minimal fret grind? Seems to be all the rage to have low action at the expense a clean note. I don't get it. Beautiful basses though.
I think I prefer the Spector tone over the Warwick tone. There must be many disappointed customers from Andertons' ; They get their bass and it doesn't sound nearly as good as Nathan and Lee make them sound !
Spector did the belly curve first and that design first warwick copied the shit out of them with the streamer warwick is a great company but nothing like spector pre korg take over
Warwick was a failing company until they introduced the Spector Clone (aka Streamer). Their other models were failures. Then, they got lots of endorsers to get on board once the Streamer sales provided the revenue to get them in "the game" and now their former failed bass models are selling well due to big name players endorsing them. Spector made a name for themselves by being unique and innovative!!!
Joe Dazey it wasnt failing. the warwick founder is the son of the guy that owned framus guitars. so he decided to build basses and didnt have a design and licensed the spector design. when that ran out he changed the headstock and kept producing them. that was the point where the lawsuite came in. anyway we all know who was first :) i have bought a warwick streamer stage 1 in the late 90ies for 800 bucks and later found out its the 127th bass they ever produced. completely handmade, and i LOVE it, no matter who came up with the design first :)
The maple top is thick enough that the pickups will resonate from the maple to get the distinctive brighter tone. If it were a paper thin veneer top, the maple would not make a difference.
Spector Bass did it in 1977 with the NS-1. Warwick copied it after Kramer/Spector went bankrupt. Stuart sued them once he got the rights to the design back. The Streamer was the design that got Warwick noticed Before that...they were just a copycat company...still are in many ways.

But agreed we need to hear the B itll demo if its a nice tight sounding B or a floppy mess.. Like my old mim fender jazz 5 lol

The NS2 body was designed by Ned Steinberger for Spector. On an aside, I had a Spector Euro 4 SE5. Hands down the best bass I've owned.
