I’ll be honest I felt like a dad that wasn’t doing his job to the full potential. I’m glad to see other parents have the courage to speak on the talking issues with their child.

Instantly tried this with my daughter and she loved it. She even tries saying bubbles.

The bubbles idea has helped me so much with my child I can see him understanding conversation more and he gets excited to sit and learn new words because it's a fun time for him thank you!

I feel the same way but my bf says I'm overreacting I asked him why he said all his brothers and sisters started talking around 3 so I kinda calmed down but it is new to me because my sister's kids talked really early by the time her daughter was one she could even sing twinkle twinkle Little Star and the itsy bitsy spider etc. It does worry me because I want her to be ok. The good thing is all of my bf brothers and sisters are very smart so I hope my baby also gets to be as smart as them and her daddy.

So glad i found your channel my daughter is 3 years old going to turn 4 and she still talks nonsense, doesn't have full conversation she does say alot words, follows directions, understand everything & i understand her for the most part she also did go to speech therapy for 3 months, it did help her a little and i try to yeach her at home as well but idk i just feel like am failing as a mom, it's so frustrating:( idk what to do. It's like if she has a jard time saying full sentences but she can says so much words whatever i tell her i could be reading to her or whatever the case it is and she repeats after me. And i know am not the only mom that feels that way seeing another kids the same age as your kids, they dont speak as clearly or good as your kid just makes me feel like I'm not doing something right.

Hey I feel your pain my son is almost five and he only uses 2 word sentences at most. I've only ever head him combine 3 words once I literally cried. He I'll juts repeat a bunch of words or use a word as needed. The pressure of kids his age is painful more especially when family or friends will comment on his development. It really heart warming knowing that we are not alone and children are just different and require patience so they can develop as they should .

2 year and 2 months old daughter. I try all these things every day but more often than not my daughter will just shut down and pout on the floor. Sometimes she will try but it is rare. But she understands complex things I tell her like "Go plug your ipad into the charger" "Take your dishes to the kitchen sink when you are done eating", "Go pick out a diaper, shirt and pants" and she can memorize yoga routines that my wife uses to work out with in the morning. So I think she is normal intelligence. She just frustratingly won't cooperate with learning to talk. She knows all the sign language words we teach her.

I'm in the same boat, with my two and a half old Son! I try my best, and use simple words, since I have some "experience" in dealing with kids like this. My worry is, he has possible autism, that I am trying go get him tested For! So, who knows! I didn't learn to talk correctly, until I was almost 3! So I'm hoping he's like his momma on this one. "Smart", but a "late bloomer" in learning!

I like your clarity and enthusiasm. Thing is, a lot of suggestions I see tend to assume that the child has difficulty pronouncing words, has a limited vocabulary, etc. My 3 year-old doesn't have those problems. She has always pronounced words and phrases clearly, since she was 1, and she knows a lot of words in a passive "identification" sense. BUT, she will only repeat words and phrases to herself from the songs she hears and storybooks I read to her. She does this all day. She NEVER uses language in a personal or conversational way, to communicate her needs and wants like hunger, thirst, sleepiness, desire for a particular item or activity, etc.
If I ask her if she's hungry or thirsty or needs a nap or wants grapes, whatever, she's COMPLETELY SILENT. I've instinctively tried the motivation thing, e.g. she wants to go outside and I try to get her to say "Outside", or she wants me to open a little bag of cookies, and I withhold them and try to get her to say "Open". Doesn't work. She's stubborn and will walk away as if she prefers to not have the thing she wants than to say the word I'm prompting her to say. Or she becomes frustrated and has a tantrum. And these are words I've heard her say to herself a number of times before, in a non-personal way.
It's very frustrating because whenever she wants something or is uncomfortable in any way, she just cries and we still have to guess what she wants or what's bothering her. I thought by now we wouldn't have to be doing that. And with a new baby due in a little over a month, it's going to be a lot to handle.

To the ladies who asked, no, no progress. If anything, it's gotten worse, because she doesn't sing and recite to herself (echolalia) much anymore. Speech therapy (around 1 dozen sessions) hasn't helped.

My nieces are all talking responding what's their name saying what they want and they are all younger than my child. I am so worried. :( she is not interested on repeating after me

Not sure if you’ll see this BUT, my 1.5 YO basically refuses to talk. She understands a ton, but grunts and makes hand gestures for everything. She is food motivated. We try to hold off giving in but she just has a meltdown eventually if we don’t give in. Once and a while she will start to mouth “more”, but it’s rare

Hi. My child is almost 4 and only speaks limitedly with 2 to 3 words at the most in a sentence. She also cannot use a spoon and fork without struggling. Is this normal? There is a lack of understanding. I asked her to get her chair and she was lost and went to her closet. She babbles a lot and it is soo difficult to understand her when she communicates. Is this normal for a 3 year old who is 4 months away from being 4

Brianne Perez I’m not a specialist but I have two toddlers on the autism spectrum and this sounds like your child may have this. It took a while for my daughter to use utensils, but does great now. She’s nonverbal and hums words without saying them. My son however babbles and uses words but not enough for someone his age. I suggest getting in touch with your pediatrician and discussing having your child seen for autism. I promise you autism is not a death sentence and I love watching my daughter play look through things. They are extremely intelligent. They’re just different not less.

I can put my hands behind my back and ask him to do so many things and he understands... but he's just not talking... the only word, really, that he says is "yeah" and i just can't get him to say anything else.... he is going to be 2 in a month and most kids his age are saying lots of words. He knows quite a bit of signs and he's very independent.... can it be that he is just a late talker and there are no issues? His pediatrician says to not worry about it but he my first and only child so far so i worry... what else can i do?!

What should a caregiver do, when using different play processes to encourage speech, that as soon as the toddler (18-19mo) doesn't get what they want/something doesn't go the way they expect, the default is brain shattering screaming? I've done the bubble process but because toddler insists on taking the bubbles (which I didn't allow) the screaming tantrum ensued. At that point I put the bubbles away and offer a different activity. I know this reaction must be based on frustration/big feelings and it happens multiple times per day...toddler isn't allowed out of stroller quick enough, playing with a toy doesn't go they way he expects....

Can I ask why you sign the words to the child? For example, you were signing "more" for the bubbles. Doesn't that hinder the child from speaking further because they can just sign rather than speak the words? I ask because my 18 month old speaks only a handful of words and very much only on his terms. They do teach some sign language at his daycare and in place of saying "please" when I ask him to say it, he just signs to me and won't even try to say it. Thank you in advance!

She loves reading and remember what happens in the book and say it out loud. Sing some song followed TH-cam. And load of words around but unfortunately she didn't talk to us, tell us what does she wants or needs. If she wants u to read a book or open something she will put it in your hand and scream. She didn't do what you ask her to do. All she do is screaming. I so worry about her as she will be in nursery soon. She has therapy appointment. Hope she will pick up from there.

Hi, My 2 y/o daughter can and does speak. She will watch the educational vids on YT and repeat. a a a a alligator, b b b b b ball etc etc. But no interaction speech, eg she knows the word cookie but will not ask for one. She knows mummy/daddy but has only used it, without prompting, once. How can I get her to speak more? I talk and read to her all day trying.

Most 18 month olds are using 50 words on average. I have tons of free videos on my youtube to help with a few small things but if you are looking for a step-by-step guide on exactly what to do then look into my online course for parents called "How to Teach a Toddler to Talk." school.walkietalkiespeechtherapy.com/
