This is fascinating, my little one is 23 months now and speaks sentences. You'll be surprised to know that less than 4 months ago he couldn't say one word! Yep, at 19 months he couldn't say anything. I literally read all day constantly to him and narrate everything we do and see during the day. That simple!
@@celestegibbs6527 for the longest time we thought he could hear, but one day we put a phone behind him and rang the beeper and he didn't move his head or flinch. The next day I made an appointment to have his hearing checked and he had the tubes soon after. He has Asperger's but I had no idea he could barely hear.
To anyone who has been doing all of these things but hasn’t heard words yet, don’t worry and keep doing what you’re doing! Babies are all different. They have different learning styles and different time frames for certain developments. I’ve noticed my baby collects information for quite a while before she acts. Your baby might enjoy hearing those words many times before they feel confident enough to say it themselves. Have patience with them, and it will work out ❤ As long as your pediatrician is not concerned, go with their flow and keep on teaching them
My baby is 14 months old and he does what I tell him, like bring me this or go here, but doesn't say more than a few words. I don't know if I trust this unqualified woman for advice but I'm willing to give it a shot.
Brilliant! It is always great to see babies doing good learning progress…. Just always some room for learning and growing . Everything we see and touch can be communicated but how we do it matters . Go eye level with your child , turn them to face you or speak to someone but down to their eye level . Words should be not excessively loud but loud enough for them to hear words and clear . Show the child how you pout your lips when you say the words . I even show them if possible my tongue movement. The best way is saying it over and over and over again . Children learn from repetition. And whats more important is that the connection between parent and child as that is how a childs microbiome is effected to stimulate growth of brain development . And the love and acceptance that we are all different, what a boring world it would be if we were all the same.

my son just turned 2 yesterday and still cannot talk. So glad to have discovered your channel. I am going to try these techniques to my son. Love from the Philippines!
Every child is different. Mine will be 2 in 1 wk. He speaks baby language and makes sense sometimes lol, his very intelligent and chat on a pretend phone conversation to me. He speaks to the tele when watching his cartoon, and he sings along. He reads books with me and says the words I've repeatedly and points to it, he picks the book he wants to colour or read. He was born premature but getting there, im proud of him.
Yes Mama! 👏👏👏 Every child is very different and it sounds like your little guy is doing AMAZING! He's got some major support in his corner - keep it up! ❤️
My baby was also born premature, he is 20 months now and speaks baby language. We encourage him to speak and read books with him, hopefully he'll start speaking soon.
My 20 months old baby boy can not only speak sentences but he can also recite so many nursery rhymes, 1-20 counting, abc song. For making ur little one talk u need to spend quality time with him, love, huggs, kisses talking and singing make them speak early.
I would just like to say that I have ADHD and well everyone that knows me has told me to shut up most of my life because I don't stop talking and this has turned out to be a blessing my son started talking early he never used baby talk and he has scored above average in the reading comprehension and language since preschool. So I would say yes this makes a world of difference.
This showed me that I'm doing better than I thought, helping my son learning language - just through a mother's intuition and maybe my interest in language itself 🙂 Greetings from Germany ☺️
My daughter is three years old now, she speaks to me in English, to my wife in some English but mostly Chinese, at school the base language is French and when she plays with local friends she has a mix of French and Wolof ....we live in Senegal, West Africa.. I’m absolutely in awe, kids are amazing, I’m still learning French (badly)..
That's amazing! Can she tell the difference between these three languages? Does she know how to express herself in three ways(Chinese, French, English) depending on whom she is talking to?
This is really helpful and reassuring honestly. My son has been saying mama since 2 months and he has always associated “mama” and “mom” with me. He’s 6 months now and has been responding accordingly to needing a bottle or a diaper change when he actually needs them if I ask him but his babble talk is still very limited and I want him to learn that it is okay to talk more even if he doesn’t understand language yet.
Thank for this video I started these techniques since my son was 6 months old and now he is 18 months old he can talk more than 1000 words cuz he is bilingual. I love you thank you for this great video 💗
I do sort of narrate to my daughter and say things like "were going to the shops now bubba" or "all done" when she looks like she's had enough food or when it's time to put something she's playing with away, I don't read with her or teach anything, but tomorrow I'll be getting some babies first word cards and narrating more and reading because I feel like I've failed as a mum by not doing these things to help encourage my child to develop and am so surprised how your 1 year old is talking, I know every kid is different and progresses differently but I definitely need to work on this stuff and put a lot more effort in, thank you for your help 😊
I wanted to comment to give some encouragement and hope to parents out there and to thank you, Kaleigh, for these videos. I previously commented on your Birth Vlog video that my son was only saying ~20 words at 19 months. He turned 2 just days ago, and the last 3 months he's had a complete transformation! I stopped counting his words after the 200 mark, which happened at about 22 months, but I estimate he says over 500. Now he's saying 4-5 word sentences and he's counting everything around him. He's always been extremely shy, so I think part of the issue was he lacked confidence in speaking. But perhaps more importantly, I've been very intentional about modeling, narrating, and expanding his existing phrases. I spent a lot of time worrying about his speech and I'm elated with his progress. Guess I'll have to find something new to worry about (isn't that what moms do best?)
Very useful I have a family with 2 babies under 2 yrs and both of us work 9-5 jobs so its challenging especially when we weren't a language rich household after narrating our activites i have seen improvements
This is refreshing. I now understand why everyone asks why my children talk so well so young. We've done all these things except sign language as 2nd nature since we both went to Montessori as children ourselves.
Really really helpful. I am from a Spanish country and I am an English teacher of kids. so, I think these tips can tremendously help to teach English.. Thank a million..
Repetition and practice and it'll come! Our 15 month old is the same way right now. It also helps if you are in an area without distraction! Don't stress about it Mama, just keep trying with text that interests him and it'll come! ❤️
My 20 months old JUST developed an interest to books. Before I would pull one out & he would run away. as of right now there’s not much reading going on still, however he really enjoys having me point out what things are. Books like 100 first words where there are lots of pictures are his favorite. Just last night he actually let me read a little bit to him before he took off, but we’re making progress!
It amazing! Children are little sponges. They are watching and listening all the time. Staying consistent with small habits pay back with big rewards! Great video!
I started reading to my 10month old since birth he loves it. He sits still while I read to him. I let him play with his books to touch and feel the pictures. I’ve caught him pretending to read. He was using his fingers to follow the word in the book.
This is really motivating! Thank you! I’ve been doing some of these already (my baby loves playing with the light switch and sounds a lot like your baby when she says oofff, it’s super cute :) ) and will incorporate more of these tips, like narrating a whole lot more. It really takes consistency and time for them to catch on. Sometimes weeks or months. I also want to add, from reading the comments maybe a lot of mamas and daddy’s out there feel like they haven’t done enough because baby doesn’t talk or only says a couple of words. Don’t feel like you haven’t been there for your child. We are all doing the very best we can. Raising children is a lifelong commitment and there will be many opportunities for your parenting gifts to shine. One thing that is for sure is that no one can love your baby like you can. It’s a one of a kind bond! 😊💕🤲
Thank you so much for giving clear explanation and video samples. I am a former teacher, now an SLPA. I plan to share this video with my clients' families.
Got a half Korean baby on the way, I know as much Korean as a baby, and really want to be able to speak to them in just or mostly Korean, we are in an English speaking country so it's going to be harder to teach them their other native language, I'll try my best tho, idk how imma do it, but I really don't want them to lose touch with their other language, it's just as important
My baby girl just turned nine months and can say nurse, night night, doggy, kitty, mama, dada, diaper and baby. I have adhd (so pressured speech) because of this I talk literally ALL day long to my baby like she is an adult. Lol
I love this video. Thank you it’s hard since I only one 16 month old and he’s older than his two cousins that talk so much more than him. Their moms say because they have siblings to help out with their babies talking.
Thank you for this!! My son will be 1 next month! This video has all the information that I need. I want him to learn to speak proficiently and as early as he is able to. He is already able to say a couple of words. Thank you again ❣️good job mama
Ive been strugling with reading because my son tears the pages of his books 😞 but this is such a big help for me. So much to digest and i admired how u teach ur kids prefessionally
Struggling with a similar issue, my daughter is not really interested in books unfortunately.. maybe one picture then she throws it away. She is a very physical baby though and her biggest interests is running, climbing, dancing, throwing, kicking a ball.. she is 20 months now
Yea people always say read to them but she tears the pages and even with cardboard books she flips the pages and still manages to chew those books too.. each one of her books have a chunk chewed out of them. She thinks they are just chew toys :/
Have 4 toddlers in class,One boy who’s 14 months has no words.I can’t get him to mimic talking and he isn’t walking yet.I know he’s behind on language s how do I help him? I do encourage him to talk and am consistently teaching words.
So cute! Your son is a lot like mine how he talks! We are 18 months with 175 words, speaking sentences, knows all colors, numbers 1-5, and has had over 80 words since 12 months! I have a few friends who ask me for tips and I always offer my advice but I’ve been looking for videos to better help them and came across yours! Great video! ♥️
HI, this was really helpful information for me! My baby girl is about to turn 6 months and she can babble and scream and make different noises but she doesnt say any consonants yet. So when we were at the dr.s appointment for her 6 months and the dr asked about if she was saying any consonants, we said no and it had me a little worried. Everything else she seems to have been more advanced at but watching this video gave me a lot of ideas on how to help her learn more words. I will definitely be reading more to her at night and labeling everything. Thank you so much for this video. It was exactly what i was looking for!!!
Love this. It should be so normal to do most of these things. Cell phones are real Cells for parents and some young children. I see so many parents at parks or restaurants stuck in the phone. Thank the Lord your subs give me so much hope. God Bless.
Thanks for the amazing information. I'm a single mom and a veeery quiet person so, it's very hard for me to talk to my baby and i have to be very intentional about it. I'll definitely start implementing your strategies 👏🏻
Oh I am so glad I came across your TH-cam page. I just got promoted to Aunt to God mother currently in school to become an Occupational Therapist. Now this video is so informative to mommas and to people whom aren’t moms yet, but whom want to seek more tools that’s will benefit a child they know and whom they love with their absolute all. You and your husband are doing an exceptional job!!! Great job momma!!!!
My baby would try to mimic me when he was 3 months. I would say “I love you” and he would basically babble it back. Literally got his vaccines and that all stopped the next day. I really feel like it made him degrees and slowed everything down. He is 17 months now and has been slow to walk and only speaks a few words. I can tell he understands a lot but I just get nervous. First time parent
This is brilliant ! My little boy is 19 months and doesn't say a word ☹️ I'm hoping he will start saying a few words by the age of two, we read together, sing together, I speak to him all the time. So we'll see 🤷🏾♀️

i have a 28 month old and he speaks so little words, just around 2weeks ago he always calls me dada or daddy, he rarely says mama, he understand what we’re saying and commands, we’re narating reading books and tried to make him repeat the words but he refuse to do it!
In summary TIPS FOR BUILDING LANGUAGE. -TYPES OF TALK A - Narrate everything that you do (self talk) B - Describe what they are doing (parallel talk) - LABELLING - Label what things are, Use proper name for things and do it every time. Example: MILK ( WRONG = "want it ?"- RIGHT = "want MILK ?") - LIGHTS (easy activity) Show your child the on and off light switch, then allow them to flip it , on and off , magic light powers. NARRATE how the lights go - "On" AND "Off". They will pick it up so quick. Magic words. - simple way to teach first words for a baby who hasn't started talking yet. Use this as a game when they throw tantrums! Distract / change focus. Quick easy and almost always works. - MODEL You model language for them.. you give them their words, by saying it yourself. They cant know it if they havent heard it. Use new words, be more descriptive, make sounds. Your baby wont judge you XD Warning: Frustration = BAD news. biggest cause of toddler frustration/TANTRUMS .. when they cant communicate what they want to communicate. Teaching them to speak = less frustration and tantrums. - LISTEN Listen! Find balance between talking and listening. Teaches them turn taking in conversations. Shows that you care about what they say. (TRY - Repeating their words and sounds back to them , it shows you listen) Dont interrupt! give them time , let them keep trying. (TRY - Pause at the end of a sentence, let them fill in the blank/ last word. Using Common phrases or songs are best to use for this. TRY- Extend what they say by 1 word. Expand foundation of single words eg- "Ball" to "BIG ball" Rephrase their mistakes and say it correctly. (Correcting shouldn't be done often though and Avoid it completely if the child seems discouraged) " Wash the bubbles" becomes "wash with the bubbles" / "me help" becomes "I help" -READING READ with your child. Builds listening skills, memory , vocabulary. Teaches them to identify the concept of print for future reading skills. (Exposes them to different words that you dont use normally. Like NEUTRON.) -SIGNING ? YES they will pick it up , you can also learn by teaching them. Gives them MORE options for COMMUNICATION. - NB! REPEAT , REPEAT , WAIT Repeat yourself TWICE, and then wait. ALWAYS expect a response once they know a word and always let them try. " Apple .. Apple .. (pause for them to repeat )" - EXPECTATIONS Be consistent. Choose ONE way you want to respond to something - then stick to it. They will learn what actions cause WHAT reactions. (Cause and result.) IF YOU ARE CONSISTENT with them , they will become CONSISTENT with you. *Monkey see monkey do* Consistency = safety. The same as a routine, and when baby feels safe they feel happy.
Dayum ! Wheres my college degree.Just typed it out in a comment while I was watching and now I feel smart as shit ! YOUR WELCOME FOR THIS CONTRIBUTION TO SMARTNESS
Hey Carnahans Family! I'm reaching out as a confused and lost mother, if you guys can make a video on how you discipline your 18 month old boy. I have a 18 month old little one and I'm trying to figure out the best strategy to go about it when he does something he isn't suppose to or dont listen me the first three times. I don't wanna hit him since I fear he will just react with violence and won't express his feelings correctly. He doesn't talk much and only says very few words (we're a bilingual family). I would love to know your experiences and any suggestions you guys have. Thanks and stay safe!
Hey mama! Discipline can be so hard at this age because of the language barrier and their ability to appropriately express their feelings! We absolutely agree that hitting is not the answer! We do plan on making a video around discipline but in the mean time, let me get you a few ideas! 1) Model! Just like we spoke about in the video - modeling the correct response is huge! For example, you might ask him to pick up his toys and he refuses. Then come over and show him "Mama asked you to pick up your toys, this is what I want you to do. Pick up the toys like this! Mama is doing such a great job picking up toys! Yay! Clap for Mama! Now you try! Yay!" Modeling followed by positive reinforcement works wonders! 2) Offer 2 choices that are both in your favor. Again, you might ask him to pick up his toys, he does not comply so you can calmly go over to him, get his attention so he is looking at you and say "It is time to clean up your toys, do you want to clean up balls or blocks first" or "It's time to clean up your toys, do you want to put the toys in the blue basket or on the shelf?" Offering two choices helps our toddlers feel like they have some choice and power which they crave at this age but both options satisfy you! You might also find some more answers, especially on setting expectations in our most recent potty training video! While you may not be potty training right now, setting expectations is an overall parenting strategy that can be applied to any situation! th-cam.com/video/dmTWj6mCbGQ/w-d-xo.html Best wishes Mama! And thanks for being here!
Thank you for these tips. I have an 18 month old who says around 10 words. I have been worried because my pediatrician said he should be saying 20 at least. I feel so guilty because I haven’t been talking as much as I should to him. My mom died unexpectedly when he was 7 mo old, she was only 48 years old and it was very very traumatic for our family. I was already dealing with PPD and add grief into it. I wasn’t doing well. I’m trying to make up for it now.
Thanks for the info... I badly need this... My baby started to say Ma-ma before he turned to 1 year old... I am just concerned that he stop talking words like Ma-ma after that... My baby boy is now 15months old and he just say like ummmmmmmm...Thank you... I will surely do your tips from tomorrow onwards... Hoping for immediate progress🙏
Ohhh me too I'm very worried about my son he is 28 months but just can say 3 word and he is very shy he never looks at me when I talk or call him he just point out when he needs to take things
Very informative video thank you.My toddler is nearly 25 months old and has very few vocabulary.Going to follow your instructions.Much love from Mauritius
Wow, so useful need to practice this one and you seem like a great mom and dad, already shared this with my wife, thanks a lot for uploading a video, you seems like a very postive person.
My two year old just stares at me when I talk but she won’t say a word. She doesn’t socialize with other little kids but not by choice, I don’t know any moms with a son/daughter the same age as mine. And she doesn’t even try to talk. She loves books but by herself, as soon as I step in and start reading them for her she leaves, same with drawing and other sensory play. She doesn’t even say 20 words yet and as a new mom I am so worried, her pediatrician discarded any possibility of autism or anything similar and told me that she simply needs to socialize more. But relative’s comments get to me, they don’t do it with bad intentions, but as a new mom every “wow she doesn’t talk yet, mine talked since X age” kind of make me feel bad, as if I’m not doing a good job. Please somebody have any advice. And sorry for the very long paragraph 😅
Your children are so advanced in communication thanks to your teaching. Have you tried elimination communication? It would probably be easy for your children.
That's great to hear! They really are pretty basic things you can do at home! Nothing fancy needed! 🤩 That's one of the things I love about language so much! All you need is a mouth 😄
I have a 24 months old and she just destroys things, if i let her wash her bottle like your little son is doing, she would just play with the water and get the whole kitchen wet.
Ahh, yes! We feel ya Mama! That is definitely where we started when we began activities at the sink. I got used to just putting a large bath towel down on the floor while he was learning to keep the water in the sink. It's been months and months and now he's pretty reliable with keeping the water in the sink but it definitely takes time and practice! Even though the mess can be hard, I just try to remind myself that everything is a learning opportunity! Sending hugs your way! 🥰
I adore the suggestions. I've been trying some to get my baby talking. I wish to see book suggestions, not sure if you've done it already. Also, a review of the science books you pinned in the description.
I have done all of these things innately with my children all five of them. And only my two introvert children spoke very late. I think it has something to do with their personality and being a bit more shy and easily content they would rather hear everyone else talk then bother to talk themselves they prefer sign language over verbal speech until over 3 years old when we have to ask them to stop using sign language so that they can finally start talking more. Every child is different and developmentally this is still very acceptable. My children all started reading at age four or five over a hundred words and they get A's in school.
Quick reference: Narrate w/ self-talk: Describe what you're doing. "Daddy is putting the ball in the basket" Narrate w/ parallel talk: Describe what the baby is doing. "Theo is picking up the book!" Label: identify objects you and your baby are interacting with. Instead of "Do you want it?" say "Do you want the milk?" Model: repeat a phrase slowly so they can hear how to say something Listen: give the baby space to speak so they can learn turn-taking. Repeat what they say, and say things like "Tell me more" Pause: give the baby space to fill in phrases that they have heard many times (more advanced strategy) Extend: add 1 more word to the phrases. 0 -> 1: "" -> "Ball". 1 -> 2: "Ball" -> "Big ball". Rephrase (use sparingly): repeat what they said in a more grammatically correct way Read: take time to read with your baby throughout the day; repeat the same books to help them learn the words and concepts; make it more interactive Sign: repeat signs often and in context, accompanied by the corresponding words Expect: have the mindset that they will be able to speak
Hi. I just came across your video. Can you help people who are bilingual ? My son will be 18months soon but has no full words . I don't speak English to him at home because I want him to learn my native language. At the same time he goes to the daycare. Thanks for any advice
Please please I need your encouragements and your advices, My baby boy is 2 years and 4 months old and he’s not talking yet , He knows only 2 words !!!! He went through some health problems from birth which is delayed his speaking but I’m trying with him a lot, he just wants to be alone and play alone not talking with me, I feel so sad. I read many comments I saw every baby in my baby’s age is saying sentences,I feel disappointed for my son😔 Please give me some advices what should I do ?! Are these tips in the videos Useful for my baby to start talking???!!!
My baby now 17 months and he is already sing along his favourite song wheel's on the bus and also its so funny when he start to counting 123 and than jump to said w and also when he watch just the logo of cocomelon on our TV he will run to us and said mummy mummy cocomeyon ohhhh it's so cute, also my baby is dual language I talk Indonesian to him and his daddy talk English and he has no problems with that. I'm so proud parents ❤️❤️❤️
I’m 30 weeks with my son. I have seen my nieces and nephews with so many delays and although that’s how their families are raising them, for my own babies I want them to be able to communicate with me and those around them. This video was so helpful!!
I think in the end whether kids are “delayed” or not they will still be the same in the end just cause someone’s kid is delayed doesn’t mean the parents have done anything wrong

Sounds like great progress to me !!! You're doing a great job mama!!
I’m another ADHD parent and have a 19 mo and can agree, she is so smart and I really believe it’s due to me yapping to her about everything lol
This showed me that I'm doing better than I thought, helping my son learning language - just through a mother's intuition and maybe my interest in language itself 🙂
Greetings from Germany ☺️
Das habe ich mir auch oft gedacht ;) Grüße aus Baden Württemberg :)
My 16 month old absolutely loves the Science for babies books!!! I read all 4 of them to him multiple times a day because he loves them!
Guess I'll have to find something new to worry about (isn't that what moms do best?)
thanks a lot for sharing your good report!!
Thank you so much!! My son is 18 months and is not talking and babbles.. I will definitely try all of these strategies!
How is your son now... May son also 18 months and not talking yet .... plz update...
How is he doing a year later? Hope all is well 😊
Really really helpful. I am from a Spanish country and I am an English teacher of kids. so, I think these tips can tremendously help to teach English.. Thank a million..
I wish my son would sit still long enough to read a book
Repetition and practice and it'll come! Our 15 month old is the same way right now. It also helps if you are in an area without distraction! Don't stress about it Mama, just keep trying with text that interests him and it'll come! ❤️
Read anyway.

😆😆😆
My 20 months old JUST developed an interest to books. Before I would pull one out & he would run away. as of right now there’s not much reading going on still, however he really enjoys having me point out what things are. Books like 100 first words where there are lots of pictures are his favorite. Just last night he actually let me read a little bit to him before he took off, but we’re making progress!
It amazing! Children are little sponges. They are watching and listening all the time. Staying consistent with small habits pay back with big rewards! Great video!
I found this video very informative for young mothers and i am a marriage and family therapist. Good job
Love how he speaks, that baby talk😍, waiting for my toddler to speak
I am in love with this channel, my daughter is 11 months, thank you so much am on it.
Thank you so much for giving clear explanation and video samples. I am a former teacher, now an SLPA. I plan to share this video with my clients' families.
Great tips! My 17 months says a few words but there is definitely room to learn much more! Thank you for the tips! 😊
You're so welcome! You got this! We hope you enjoy learning and growing here with us! ❤️
The way you talk as well is so helpful. You sound like a motivational speaker lol! Making me wanna talk 😂👌
This was so helpful! Thank you.
This is great! My son is bilingual, I get this will be a bit harder for him
This is an useful and helpful video for Chinese speaker to teach our toddler to speak. Thank you!
Hiya. cardboard/ Hardback books would be great here. Their chubby hands can flick through easily
This is really educating. Thanks for sharing.
This actually worked within 5 minutes of practicing these skills !!
Yes! Yes! YES! 🙌 👍 👏
Have 4 toddlers in class,One boy who’s 14 months has no words.I can’t get him to mimic talking and he isn’t walking yet.I know he’s behind on language s how do I help him?
I do encourage him to talk and am consistently teaching words.
I’m so excited to follow this channel!! Thank you!!
How maam. Please share plss
How please?
10 months baby here, speaking 20k words and analyzing Shakespeare. Thinking of switching to Dostoyevski but in Russian ofc. Cheers
@@pduhovic6184my 11 month old thinks the English adaptation is more engaging 😂
Inspite of saying great kid, I would like to say great mom. I feel ur efforts which made ur son smart 👍& me too mother of 18 months old boy .
God Bless.
Looks so satisfying but i hope it's as easy as we can see in this video. I really hope my future children can easy understand sentence and talk fast
Thanks for the great tips. Your little ones are so smart already👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thanks for the amazing information. I'm a single mom and a veeery quiet person so, it's very hard for me to talk to my baby and i have to be very intentional about it. I'll definitely start implementing your strategies 👏🏻
Same here😩🥺
@@rain_x5535 me too🥺
Omg same
Oh I am so glad I came across your TH-cam page.
Awh! Thanks so much Diana! Good luck in your schooling! Occupational Therapists are the BOMB 💣
More blessings for you and your family
My baby would try to mimic me when he was 3 months. I would say “I love you” and he would basically babble it back. Literally got his vaccines and that all stopped the next day. I really feel like it made him degrees and slowed everything down. He is 17 months now and has been slow to walk and only speaks a few words. I can tell he understands a lot but I just get nervous. First time parent
How is he doing now?
Thank you for this mama. Love you
Wow... so amazed to see your 22 month old speak so much... my son is 2 and does not say anything except Papa

@@cindyomar215 is he talking now? My baby girl 21 months and just saying less than 10 words
This is brilliant ! My little boy is 19 months and doesn't say a word ☹️
I'm hoping he will start saying a few words by the age of two, we read together, sing together, I speak to him all the time. So we'll see 🤷🏾♀️
How's it going?
OMG.. Just what I need now. My baby girl is 11 months now. Glad I saw this
Yay! 11 months is such a fun stage before a burst of language! Our 15 month old really took off around 12/13 months old! What perfect timing! Wow I watch alot of these videos and none off them helped explain it the way you did thank you
i have a 28 month old and he speaks so little words, just around 2weeks ago he always calls me dada or daddy, he rarely says mama, he understand what we’re saying and commands, we’re narating reading books and tried to make him repeat the words but he refuse to do it!
I love this video. Do you have a video on books you recommend/favorite books for toddlers?
My baby is already 20 months and she won’t say one word,it is great to have your video.hope it can help and she can talk soon.
Hi
Hey any change in your babies speech ?
In summary
TIPS FOR BUILDING LANGUAGE.
-TYPES OF TALK
A - Narrate everything that you do (self talk)
B - Describe what they are doing (parallel talk)
- LABELLING
- Label what things are, Use proper name for things and do it every time. Example: MILK ( WRONG = "want it ?"- RIGHT = "want MILK ?")
- LIGHTS (easy activity)
Show your child the on and off light switch, then allow them to flip it , on and off , magic light powers. NARRATE how the lights go - "On" AND "Off".
They will pick it up so quick. Magic words.
- simple way to teach first words for a baby who hasn't started talking yet.
Use this as a game when they throw tantrums! Distract / change focus. Quick easy and almost always works.
- MODEL
You model language for them.. you give them their words, by saying it yourself. They cant know it if they havent heard it. Use new words, be more descriptive, make sounds. Your baby wont judge you XD
Warning:
Frustration = BAD news.
biggest cause of toddler frustration/TANTRUMS .. when they cant communicate what they want to communicate.
Teaching them to speak = less frustration and tantrums.
- LISTEN
Listen! Find balance between talking and listening. Teaches them turn taking in conversations. Shows that you care about what they say.
(TRY - Repeating their words and sounds back to them , it shows you listen)
Dont interrupt! give them time , let them keep trying.
(TRY - Pause at the end of a sentence, let them fill in the blank/ last word. Using Common phrases or songs are best to use for this.
TRY- Extend what they say by 1 word.
Expand foundation of single words eg- "Ball" to "BIG ball"
Rephrase their mistakes and say it correctly. (Correcting shouldn't be done often though and Avoid it completely if the child seems discouraged)
" Wash the bubbles" becomes "wash with the bubbles" / "me help" becomes "I help"
-READING
READ with your child. Builds listening skills, memory , vocabulary.
Teaches them to identify the concept of print for future reading skills. (Exposes them to different words that you dont use normally. Like NEUTRON.)
-SIGNING ?
YES they will pick it up , you can also learn by teaching them.
Gives them MORE options for COMMUNICATION.
- NB!
REPEAT , REPEAT , WAIT
Repeat yourself TWICE, and then wait. ALWAYS expect a response once they know a word and always let them try.
" Apple .. Apple .. (pause for them to repeat )"
- EXPECTATIONS
Be consistent.
Choose ONE way you want to respond to something - then stick to it. They will learn what actions cause WHAT reactions. (Cause and result.)
IF YOU ARE CONSISTENT with them , they will become CONSISTENT with you.
*Monkey see monkey do*
Consistency = safety.

Best wishes Mama!
Reading your comment and I hope and pray your doing much better today 💕
He’s so cute and such a great talker! This video is so helpful! :)
Love it. Love it. Love it.
Thank you.

Thanks ,really helpful
I am a new mom and very much an educator as well for the young ones and you have taught me so much for my my own family ❣️ty so much
Wow, so useful need to practice this one and you seem like a great mom and dad, already shared this with my wife, thanks a lot for uploading a video, you seems like a very postive person.
And sorry for the very long paragraph 😅
my brother says to take away all technology from them no TVs no tablet’s nothing and it forces them to talk to entertain themselves
Your children are so advanced in communication thanks to your teaching. Have you tried elimination communication? It would probably be easy for your children.
Does this apply with all languages? we speak 3 languages in our home.
We're actually doing some of these strategies. Thanks for sharing!
That's great to hear! They really are pretty basic things you can do at home! Nothing fancy needed! 🤩 That's one of the things I love about language so much! All you need is a mouth 😄
So happy i found your video! This is so helpful a first time mom like me. My daughter is 11 months old. Thank you!!
OMG thank you so so much for making this video!! Love your son!!! Learnt so much from this video.
My son beating me up while watching this but thank u I learned alot
Love this format.
I prefer the walk and talk videos it helps to keep your attention longer
I have done all of these things innately with my children all five of them. And only my two introvert children spoke very late. I think it has something to do with their personality and being a bit more shy and easily content they would rather hear everyone else talk then bother to talk themselves they prefer sign language over verbal speech until over 3 years old when we have to ask them to stop using sign language so that they can finally start talking more. Every child is different and developmentally this is still very acceptable. My children all started reading at age four or five over a hundred words and they get A's in school.
Quick reference:
Narrate w/ self-talk: Describe what you're doing. "Daddy is putting the ball in the basket"
Narrate w/ parallel talk: Describe what the baby is doing. "Theo is picking up the book!"
Label: identify objects you and your baby are interacting with. Instead of "Do you want it?" say "Do you want the milk?"
Model: repeat a phrase slowly so they can hear how to say something
Listen: give the baby space to speak so they can learn turn-taking. Repeat what they say, and say things like "Tell me more"
Pause: give the baby space to fill in phrases that they have heard many times (more advanced strategy)
Extend: add 1 more word to the phrases. 0 -> 1: "" -> "Ball". 1 -> 2: "Ball" -> "Big ball".
Rephrase (use sparingly): repeat what they said in a more grammatically correct way
Read: take time to read with your baby throughout the day; repeat the same books to help them learn the words and concepts; make it more interactive
Sign: repeat signs often and in context, accompanied by the corresponding words
Expect: have the mindset that they will be able to speak
Hi. I just came across your video. Can you help people who are bilingual ? My son will be 18months soon but has no full words . I don't speak English to him at home because I want him to learn my native language. At the same time he goes to the daycare.
Thanks for any advice
Please please I need your encouragements and your advices,

I’m 30 weeks with my son. I have seen my nieces and nephews with so many delays and although that’s how their families are raising them, for my own babies I want them to be able to communicate with me and those around them.
This video was so helpful!!
I think in the end whether kids are “delayed” or not they will still be the same in the end just cause someone’s kid is delayed doesn’t mean the parents have done anything wrong
Hahaha spoken like a true non-parent. I'm very sure their parents are not raising them with intentional delays 😂
My 14 month old just finished algebra and is moving on to geometry
Thank you so much. I learn a lots from you.
