It is indeed and an even coat of spray paint didn’t cause any balancing issues. It might weigh a total of 2 oz once dried across the entire length of the driveshaft from transfer case to the rear differential and the weights for balancing are just big old chunks of steel, it isn’t an overly precise balancing from the looks of it
Do a demo of “dogs in the back seat options” with your dogs…would love to “meet” them; especially the Aussie. I have one (~50 lb) and will be getting a RR this fall ✌️
Took delivery of mine a week ago, your vids helped me through the loooong-ass wait - thanks for that. I see the South African ones are a little different (drop-in bed liner from factory and grab handles on driver AND passenger side). Bu I don't have the trailer brake modulation set-up thingy, and we only get 397 hp for some reason. And thanks for posting the oil results - I've been running mine in (testing my patience), and the metal in your oil shows that that is actually necessary. Got another 500 miles to go... One other thing - getting safety conscious - you put your wheel chock on the wrong side... (03:40) If the truck rolls forward off the ramp, it's rolling away from that front chock and won't be stopped. Can't have you missing vids due to being squashed..
Well crap, I guess I would have been way better off putting them in front and back of a single wheel to make sure it couldn’t go either direction. I put them in back because the driveway is sloped downward but I guess it could have gone either direction. Good luck on the break in period. That is strange that you guys run 8 less HP, I’m guessing it isn’t even noticeable but still odd
@@flaberdoopin Ah - ok - camera makes it look flatter, but yeah - gravity is a pretty reliable choice for chock direction.. I'm wondering whether I'd trade my rear aircon vents for your 8hp... keeping the grab handle tho..
Looking good..that's how mine looks from factory, did you do the front half shafts too? I've seen some footage of TFLs raptor that's rusty in the front CVs /hubs
I haven’t done anything forward of the transfer case yet but I will, just gotta pull the skid plates off real quick and then it will be a pretty quick job
Ref the backseat width, what is the width with the seat up and front seat all the way back? I'm trying to decide what size dog hammock to get. The one I'm looking at says "The XL hard bottom dog seat cover fits Full Size Truck and Large SUV with back space larger than 56 x 29.7 inch.". The smaller version is 52" x 24.8", which may not have enough length. Help me with my 1st World problem please!
I just went and measured. It is 26” from the back of the front seat to the padding of the back seats shoulder rest. It is 29” from headrest post to headrest post
I thought about that. The weights are pretty large overall so there has to be a significant margin for error and once spray paint is dried it is pretty light. I didn’t take off more than 1-2 grams of rust dust. I have driven 75 and there was no vibration so I’m thinking it is good to go but I’ll keep an eye on U-joints and carrier bearing for wear
I stuck with motorcraft oil and got the 5W-30. It was around $9 USD a quart but I know I won’t have any warranty issues since I am using the FOMOCO brand oil.
Yeah, I have already used the 4L with front locker engaged to get up some rocks but nothing crazy, just kept sliding in 4H so it helped. I use this as my daily driver so I can’t afford to break an axle but do plan to use it out on the jeep trails near me
1) I applaud your honesty about your light bar DIY. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 2) I would do more research on painting your drive shafts. I saw another Ford owner get his warranty rejected for this exact same move. He also wanted to remove the rust. If you want me to find the video I’ll try and go back to figure out who it was. Spraying WD40 will remove rust and prevent it from coming back with regular applications. I found the video. Not sure I can paste it but I’ll try th-cam.com/video/-c7Sm1GMt-I/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Jq_fkNZ4zb-0MWQ6
That is interesting… hopefully I didn’t shoot myself in the foot here. I wonder if they cover the driveshaft when they do an undercarriage coating to protect from road salt in the winter? I guess I will just have to keep an eye on it to make sure I didn’t hose anything up
Thanks, I didn’t even see a slip yoke at the transfer case on the truck, it did look like there was a CV joint at the carrier bearing. Might need to get out there with some sand paper to make sure I didn’t hose that up but there was a boot over it I believe
USA Ranger Raptor's have more problems than the others made in Thailand and South Africa mine is made in South Africa and i have 0 problems the only problem i had in 2023 why i did not buy it yet was when you open your right door it says that the left one is open that's what bothered me
Like to see a follow up video on this one after a year. Snow and salt suck up in Virginia. Nice video.
For sure! I will make an update in the spring for sure
Wow!! Way to go!! I know her parents have to be proud of her. Wish you could drop her name so we could follow her actions.
The drive shaft is balanced to eliminate vibration

Haha, will do! I’ll see if I can make that happen today. I’ll probably drive the truck into the back yard so I don’t lose one of them haha
Appreciate the "strongbad" reference 🎉
Haha, I love strongbad!
Looks great!
right on, thank you.

I’d take the vents. You can tune those 8 hp back really easily

Really appreciate it!
Absolutely
Did you go to your daughter’s school to try parallel and perpendicular parking?
not yet. i haven't forgotten though! that and the Alexa setup in the car are up next unless my offroad lights get here first.
How carefully are drive shafts balanced? Hopefully sanding and painting didn't throw yours out of balance too bad. Looks good though!

many thanks for confirming that switching to full synthetic is an option! which oil did you choose and what grade?

Hey. Do you plan on doing a rock crawling in Raptor? I plan on doing some slick rock in Moab to make use of those front lockers.

I believe painting the driveshaft would be ok. Just not a slip yolk like the other video did. But I’m not 100% positive.
