    Nice gbody... my first car was a 84 elcamino got it in 2001. Spent lots of money restoring it as a teenager over a few years. kept it running & driveable most of the time while I worked on it. Was stolen in 2005. Had lots of badass cars since but haven't gotten back around to building another one.... Looks like you get out & enjoy yours. Awesome ride man. Love the channel

    Nice man. It's amazing how many mods you've done are exactly what I've done to my 79 Regal.

  • @danieldimitri6133
    @danieldimitri6133 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Boxing the frame do not do as much as people think. It's still too flexible. And that's why I ran an extra cross member in front of the rear suspension and added rollbar tubing running down the length of the driveshaft tunnel and splayed out to the frame rails near the front body mounts(unless you want a cage, then you don't need to go crazy on the body and chassis). The extra body mounts could be under the doors or above the rear axle. Many cars only have the bottom half in these locations and serve as bumpers. Only the gnx has the mounts above the axle but both of my 79 monte Carlos had full mounts under the doors. My current 79 is getting the gnx mounts and an x frame behind the seats as well as the mods I've already done to the chassis. It also has the struts in front of the front cross member and the strut rods above the engine that most g bodies don't have. The spring rate stock is about 450lb/in or about 320 which some people prefer for drag racing but the information varies from about 420 to about 480 for the stronger springs which is probably a result of the spring rate changing in the first small amount of compression. I also have about 550lb/in springs but mine are stock s10 springs from moog but I couldn't tell you the exact application or Vin code perhaps I'll remember the moog number later. My rear springs are A body cargo or wagon springs from moog. I believe they are cc501 but there are a few A body springs in that ballpark since the axle weight was much higher but the installed height was 2" lower it balances out and you get a stiffer spring. The 1200lb number (pretty sure it's much more than that) is that static weight it takes to hold the car up no the rate these cars are well over 60% front axle weight probably close to 70% and the control arm acts as a lever on the spring so the front spring has to be quite strong. It also helps to use the s10 extreme bumpstops to give a variable compression rate and they can have minimal clearance as they are meant to be used in compression not just an endstop but the rears should have a bit of clearance for weight transfer so stock stops might be fine.

    adjustment cup. never heard that before. we call them weight jacks short for spring cup weight jacks. they are more for setting corner weights. which intern changes ride height on each corner it's more of a side effect. that's just from my years of dirt oval ump modified and late models. and whelen asphalt modified. everyone has their own terms for things and sometimes when some people say things I'm like wtf you talking about. atleast when you said this I was like oh yeah he's talking about weight jacks 😂😂 tomato tohmato I guess. either way is right.
