I am a professional color grader. I was really trying to give whomever colored Ep3 the benefit of the doubt that he or she was only following the orders of the cinematographer or director. That is until I saw Ep4. Though considerably brighter, it was terribly uneven. Shots within scenes shift from bluish to greenish and then back to orange when they go in for a closeup. The black level goes from hazy to contrasty within the same conversation in a dark room. The green screen work during the last sequence was needlessly oversaturated and didn’t blend well with the non-green screened wide shots from cut to cut. Matching shots, regardless of changes in lighting over the course a shoot, is rule number #1 for a colorist. Between all that and the Starbucks cup, it shows they really don’t care anymore.

Yeah, I'm not an expert but I've noticed a lot of errors this season and in season 7. It really feels like they're phoning it in and trying to spend half their budget and keep the rest for themselves. It's not just the lazy, uninspired writing, the plot holes, the character assassination, and the Hollywood one-liner/deus ex machina tropes. The quality of the whole show is less than what it was when it had half the budget starting out. It's like they really don't care about letting everyone know that they don't give a shit.

Or placing your trebucets vulnerable in front of everybody?
Having a perfectly fine defendable castle with strong walls that you ignore until you seriously need a place to retreat to?
Not having rocks or combustable fluids ready on top of the walls for an enemy that can be defeated by fire?

There have been *ZERO* "teleportations" as you refer to it. There has only been long spans of time between scenes, but apparently you lack the braincells to recognize such a thing as happening without big old letters on the screen saying "FIVE YEARS LATER" like they had to do for morons like your ilk when they made Avengers Endgame. Many televison and film properties over the years have done time jumps between scenes and most people, those who can actually think for themselves and not fall into the groupthink of moronic wannabe nerds at least, have had no problem recognizing that fact.
And you also seem to not have noticed that these time jumps have been happening on Game of Thrones since the very first episode of the show, yet another clue to either you being a complete imbecile, or just someone falling in line and following the sheep who listen to all the naysayers online who only know how to bitch and complain about various franchises, all without realizing that the only reason channels like this one do so is to draw in your views (or in the case of websites, your clicks). And for the record, I didn't waste my time watching the video, I just came to peruse how stupid the comments were going to be, and laugh at them. I for one am very glad that I sticked to just reading the books and not wasting time nor money on the show. For two main reasons. Firstly I prefer reading books over watching television. Secondly because I know from experience that with book adaptations there are always little bits and pieces getting lost or left out (sometimes even bigger chunks) which distort the overall story to some extent. Besides, I prefer to imagine stuff first-hand over just watching how someone else imagined the story and turned it into a show.

As someone who has been reading the books since 2001 (and read all of them 3 or 4 times, except Dance which I only read twice back in 2011) I am pretty darned happy with the series since we have gone "off book." And even the changes made before that have mostly been fine in my opinion (except the two scenes that were turned into rapey scenes on the show), as things that work in prose do not always work on screen. And then there was the fact that a number of characters had to be aged up (the Stark kids, Missendei for instance). These small changes led to other changes which led to others being needed which led to... well, you get the picture.
The key points of how the series wraps up are going to end up being the same as the books. That's the *KEY* points, not all the points, or even the major points, but the biggest most important plot points. And I am fine with that. I don't actually *want* the show to end exactly the same as the books, and I never did. Did anyone here want Captain America Winter Soldier to be the same exact story as the comic run Winter Soldier? How about Civil War? Never saw anyone comlaining that those were "off-book."

As a comic book reader, I can say that I saw this a lot! It always happens when a narcissistic writer (who was once a fan) get the reins of a book ans its characters, is more interested in"leaving his mark" than serving an audience or creating a fulfilling story, they are obsessed in causing shock, surprise and " subverting the expectations. And mind you, they were fans one day, so they know the fandom, they know what they like and hate, how the fans react and expect from a particular story.
They love to see how people react to what they do with beloved characters and the dismay and anger that they are able to evoke with their creative decisions. Creating expectation just to deliver an disappointing end is just another way to yank the chain on the fans. Worst: they do ego search and know the criticism they get ans sometimes write a story just to troll the fans that dislike their job.
They are just like Ryan Johnson and the two hacks adapting Game of Thrones, egotistical hacks that are not interested in delivering a story, but in how people will react to it. At the end, you don´t have a comic book/move, but a very elaborated prank where the only thing that matters is to have fun at expense of everyone else.

Film makers don't understand "subverting expectations". They think that pulling a "haha gotcha" is what it's all about.
Contrast this with George R.R. Martin's work:
Ned's Stark execution came as a shock because readers let their HOPES guide their expectations. The author spent the entire book letting us know what kind of cruel spoiled kid Geoffrey was. What else should we have expected from him? And yet we let our empathy for Ned make us expect an unrealistic pardon. Expectations were subverted, but the characters and their society were NOT. Everyone behaved in a CONSISTENT way.
The same is true of the red wedding. Since Rob's first arrival at the twins his mother had warned him about the prickliness of Walder Frey. And she was afraid of setting foot in his castle until he had broken bread with them. We SHOULD have expected the Red Wedding. We did not because we liked Rob, not because of inconsistent behavior.

A one film set up, regardless of how many Mystery Boxes were inserted, is not the equivalent of spending over 7 seasons and 8 years building up a threat that could lead to the potential extinction of humanity, only to pull the rug out in the 11th hour and say: "Surprise! The real threat to humanity was humanity all along!"
It's fine; Final Season always runs the risk of being too predictable in the interest of tying up all loose ends to presumably give long time viewers a sense of satisfaction when the final credits roll, but that is a SEVEN YEAR red herring, whose only function was to reduce the vast resources of a superior military force that had been building for years worth of seasons to technically make the Final Battle a lower stakes, lower sized affair over the eponymous throne.

There is a lot more to this situation than you guys know. You are normally very good at this tuff, but there are TH-camrs who have been out there for years who have pinpointed even more behind the scenes information about bad practices that dragged this show down. It wasn't just when D&D ran out of book material, they purposely changed aspects of the series for very fickle reasons, like showcasing an actor they were obsessed with, even though that actor's character had no relevance to the plot going forward. And they ignored entire plot lines from the source material. Seasons 5 and 6 both, maybe even some of 7 (if it were a full 10 episodes) could have been filled up with adapting the 4th and 5th books. Instead they tried to condense over 2000 pages of material into season 5 alone. There are a lot of aspects to why this show has failed.

Of course, Breaking Bad didn't have books or any previous material like GOT or Dexter to rely on and then run out of. Dexter could have ended at season 5 and would have been perfect, but GOT has been something that has to end because audiences want to see who ends up on the Iron Throne finally. I first met George R. R. Martin in 1978 at the World Science Fiction in Phoenix, Arizona. It was in the hallway of a "Party Wing" at one of the two main hotels. He was sitting on the floor in the hall outside a party with a notebook in one hand and a miniature chess set on his lap. Already an author of note (his novella "A Song For Lya" published in Analog in 1974 won the Hugo Award the following year, and his short story collection of the same name won the Locus Award in 1977), he could clearly multi-task but despite his acclaim he remained a solitary figure (in a highly social situation) sitting cross-legged on the floor of a crowded hotel hallway. He clearly is not a very social or political creature. Benioff and Weiss are both types of creatures. They will do well in Disney's culture. And there are no circumstances where they could hold either George's notebook, or his chess set.
The difference between George and B & W is he is as unsentimental a writer as ever has been published in the co-joined genres of Science Fiction and Fantasy. B & W are highly sentimental. See the "Starbuck's Cup" scene in Season 8, episode 4. Case made. What you have to determine is: does their wide sentimental streak work for Star Wars? I think it does. Does their penchant for subversion work for Star Wars? I believe it does not.
As a published author for over forty-five years I know this field. George Lucas understood the field. He knew what he liked: space opera serials. He took their action-adventure tropes and wedded them to Joseph Campbell's postwar musings on mythology and a romantic Christian view of human existence (if you're good enough, like Obi-Wan and Yoda, you can even come back from the dead; if you're Anakin you can be redeemed by your son, Luke). That formula hit with the public, because it reinforces deeply held western views, while adding a dash of eastern mysticism straight out of Kurosawa's films. There is no way that undereducated brats like Rian Johnson can understand the depth's of George Lucas' work. Ditto with B & W with George R. R. Martin's work. I might even call this mini-essay: A Tale of Two George's!

Here is the truth, whenever special effects are poorly rendered...the producers and FX teams darken up the shots in post. I didn't see the episode...but those that have...repeatedly said that the special effects were poorly rendered--thus it is clear that I am correct. The FX team most likely did their jobs...but the rendering was rushed by the studio...thus they wound up with incomplete and poorly rendered FX shots, hence the need for the dark shots. BTW, you can actually change the aperture of shots making them lighter or darker in post--so don't believe the excuses being made here. Trust me, the cinematographer had nothing to do with this. PS: The visual artifacts...are yet another sign of rushed effects, due to the studio (HBO) forcing the FX team and producers to air the show on time...instead of delaying the series a few months. Trust me, special effects teams and other quality control people, in terms of film mastering, are charged with the responsibility of cleaning up visual artifacts. I once saw a woman...use an electronic pen...and go frame-by-frame cleaning up visual artifacts for a TV commercial. Today, you can use denoising software, texture mapping and other tricks in order to do it more quickly--but you have to go from shot-to-shot...and scene-to-scene...and that takes time. That said, HBO didn't give them enough time. They chose the cinematographer to play the fall guy...instead of admitting what really happened.

  • @phoenixrising7777
    @phoenixrising7777 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

For everyone complaining about Arya and the “feminist agenda”.....you are missing the big picture. Arya isn’t the problem, it’s clear they just wanted to wrap things up quick and they didn’t want to/felt that they couldn’t wrap up all lore and the white walkers up.
While there is the angle of “girl power” and doing something “unexpected”, I would argue this is the main reason why they picked Arya and cut the white walker stuff off quick with no addressing any of it.
Notice how they didn’t call Arya Azor Ahai which you’d think they would at that point, but instead retroactively repurpose a prophecy (she’s had big blue eyed kills, they had to reword prophecy to emphasize blue eyes and even D&D admitted that they knew 3 years ago about Arya, which is after the eyes prophecy showed up). This shows that, other than being unexpected, it was an easy pick to not have to address all the azor ahai prophecy stuff.
If it had been Jon, there’s no way they would’ve gotten away without addressing the prophecy and lore....hence they didn’t want it to be Jon.

Game of thrones has turned into hot garbage. Can't wait for the Internet reaction when Jon kills Dany, Bran becomes King of the 7 Kingdoms and Jon goes back to the Night's Watch!

Thank you for saving me the trouble of having to watch the rest the shitty season.

Well this lines up with what I thought was going to go down with John and Dany. She is power hungry for some time. Didnt see who becomes king part though

I don't like how they forced Jamie and brianne into a sexual thing. It worked better as a platonic love/ respect they had for each other.
Cersei, had she been written consistently, would have wiped out Danny and everyone at the gates with the archers. They really thought they could reason with cersei after she lied about helping them fight the night king and tried to have her brothers killed by braun? Give me a break.
Logic and consistent writing has been replaced by...ooooops gotcha! "Look the dragon is dead now, you didn't expect such a lame death..we are geniuses!"

Agreed. I thought Cersei would go Red Wedding style & take them all out. If she learned so much from Tywin, why not end it right there with Scorpions ready on the walls & the Golden Company ready to go right behind the gate? Efficient.

I'm still in shock that Ryan Johnson got approved for a Trilogy. He was best known for looper at the time. Put yourself in Kathleen Kennedy shoes and tell me you couldn't hire someone better. Whatever happened to the guy that directed Logan?

When you make epic scenes and good story people will buy merchandise,
blu Ray's I was planning to buy the whole series again in 4k video now I don't feel the urge anymore I feel like selling my game of thrones blu Ray's.
