Thank you for this video! 🙏 I applied these tips today and they made a huge impact! I was able to jump for a longer period without tripping and your tips made me more mindful of my form! I started jumping rope a few weeks ago and I look forward to learning more. Subbed! ❤
Haha who knew I would've ever been making them! They can definitely help in learning a lot of things you would never think about starting out and skills. Glad you found it helpful 👍
This was absolutely perfect! I stopped jumping rope (after a relatively short period) because regardless of how many articles and tutorials I watched, I could never identify why I was failing. After watching your video, I know exactly where I was going wrong and exactly how to rectify it!! Thanks man :)
The slow motion helps to see where the rope trips up on your feet. Great breakdown! It's crazy though. Many jumpers think that the trip up is a jumping or leg issue, but it's nearly always a wrist or arm issue. Great stuff man!
💯 Yes, you gotta understand how your hand positioning affects the rope. That's when you can really start moving forward and decreasing the amount of trip ups👍
Finally! Someone who lets us know what we might be doing wrong. This is brilliant. It fixed me almost immediately. I’m more aware of what happens when I tire. I am 72 though and my hands move out when I tire out. Your video definitely helped me go longer without always bloody catching my ankles. Thank you.
Awesome! Don't worry, you're not alone. When anyone tires regardless of the sport, that is when the errors start to happen more frequently. Glad it helped!👍
This is the first video that has actually dropped several things to look out for other than rope length. For all I know, I'm doing them all. But now I know what to look for. Thanks.
This just discussed all the things I was doing wrong and all this time I thought it was something to do with my foot or shoes but it was my wrists all along. Thank you so much!
Patience is key and know that your not alone! We all started there. Nail down the fundamentals of form and technique and you'll start seeing progress which will drive you onward👍
Finally. It took me 7-8 videos before I found a video that was clear and thorough and actually helped me troubleshoot what was happening. I’m excited to try to correct it with your tips.
your enthusiasm is contagious! I appreciate the emphasis on form and technique. Just recovered from a bad injury and despite my body doing better my mind has been in a funky state after not exercising for almost 4 years. If that injury taught me anything its patience so Ive patiently been waiting for the simple exercise I can do with a smile on my face and I think this is it. I'm going to have to start slow but this might just be it 😎
@@Jump15official Thank you! I tore my Achilles in 5 locations but they weren't full ones so I was able to (very slowly) heal from them. I wore a boot for two years, paid for physical therapy out of pocket, the whole shebang. I can't do jumping Jack's but my PT said jumping rope would be fine so long as I ease into it. I've been slowly lifting light weights and swimming to strengthen my legs but now that its winter in NYC, I dont have an indoor pool that's practical to get to. So now, jump-rope! 😎
This is very useful information! I have the drifting hand, hands moving forward, and stiff wrist! Thanks for giving tips on how I can counter them! I will try them out tomorrow!
the best video out here, honestly it starts to get to you bc it feels like im the only one having these problems. All the videos just say don't spread your arms, which I'm already trying to do, but you explain all the types of problems and how to solve them. I hope to get better with it. Thank u
this was actually very helpful! I was getting seriously hurt by the rope, cause it hit me harddd on legs, arms and booty. but focusing on my hands positioning really helps!!
all this time I blamed my rope for being too short (it used to get caught in my hair) or my bad footwork (i have leg problems). turns out my hands go wide or too forward
NIce video sir. Yeah, I think i have all of those fails except the "hands drifting out" one...got tht nailed. One stiff wrist is probaly the biggest one for me though, it helps (me) to skip slowly at first, track the circles it makes and warm the wrist up before I begin to change speed and play around.
My 2 cents as a Newbie here. GREAT VIDEO! I wish ALL beginner training videos stressed jumping in front of a mirror early and often! I have the 1/4lb and 1/2lb cross ropes w AMP and have been practicing for about a month, nearly everyday. I did the cross rope 14-Day challenge and found it too advanced and all the footwork made for a lot of frustration cuz I couldn’t even do the basic jump consistently. Yesterday I saw this video so today I jumped in front of a mirror and recorded. Tho it FELT like I was symmetrical, the mirror and recording told otherwise- it was so obvious my form was not symmetrical and my arms drifted… I had no idea! It was a game changer and my practice today was GREAT!! As I said, I wish ALL beginner training videos explained what causes tripping and stressed jumping in front of a mirror when you start jumping rope! I’ll be skipping more “beginner” challenges and doing “free” jumping (in front of a mirror and recording to watch slow-mo) until I nail the basic jump… and possibly all the other “beginner” foot work … before moving on to “Beginner” challenges.
Yes! Awesome dude! Good job putting the tips to practice. You'll be shocked at how fast you'll start improving as you begin to nail consistency in form and technique 🤙🤘 Happy Jumping!
Dear Brother, I was doing the two mistakes you indicated in the video. For the past two days I was doing this mistake and tripping. Thanks for the video who I saw at the right time. I will correct those mistakes and enjoy jump rope workout everyday.
Oh man this was awesome! I'm new to the jump rope, but I find it crucial in my training so I'm catching on pretty fast. Nevertheless, tips like yours always aid me in sharpening new skills. Great upload and thanks 🙏🏼
This is awesome. I've just begun learning to jump rope and am now going to video myself so I can see which one (or ones) that are the culprit for me tripping constantly. Thanks so much.
Thanks so much man. I remember jumping rope back in school and I was ok no problem. Few decades later, I pick up one up and was ok like riding a bike however, 30-50 skips in I trip again and again getting frustrated. Turned to TH-cam and found this. I needed this video as I just wanna get a bit of cardio done during lockdown. I'll grab the body length mirror and take it outside, skip in front of it to see if I can identify the problem a little better. Much love from Melbourne Australia 🤙
Excellent. What's the best way to measure rope length for skipping? If I stand on the middle of the rope, where should it reach on my upper body? Cheers
Great video. But, I keep 'whipping' my left hand when I trip up on the rope. I've looked into all the obvious reasons, but not noticing any of them. I can't judge why I am doing this. I'd appreciate your opinion on this.

Thanks Kyle. Very informative. Your videos are very helpful as I prepare to start jumping when my Crossrope GetFit2020 set arrives. After watching your video here I’m thinking I’ll get a big mirror to watch for these issues to avoid as many trip ups as possible. Thanks again, and keep up the great channel!
Great video, and others as well. Any suggestions for people with one fused wrist? I have to compensate the wrist being locked with elbow and shoulder movement...
Unfortunately you don't have much of a choice. Elbow would be the next best, but try to keep the movement small. You may be able to drive the rope speed a bit more with your non fused wrist.
Kyle that is really awesome guide. However I've got something important to add. The imbalance on the hand positioning (one higher and one lower) is a extremely difficult problem to fix. I suffer from it. My left and right arm do not feel equal when doing something like pushup or skipping. When I pushup, usually my right arm is little farther. When jumping the left is much lower. I believe it all started after I suffered from a little injury on the left arm. The problem is this dissymmetry feels normal. When jumping if I manually keep both arms same, it feels that they aren't equal and I trip up or gradually they change the position. Even when I do pushup, same problem. I don't even know which arm is weaker. Have you got any solution? I jump ripe outdoors without any mirror. This problem is very annoying and hard to solve due to physical mascular imbalance. I've been able to reduce the degree by shortening my rope considerably.
I know what you mean. I still have a slight imbalance due to separating my left shoulder in college. You may have to live with some imbalance due to injury, otherwise it's trying to make an adjustment and sticking with it as best you can over time to develop a new natural position. Things like this just take time and concious effort. If you can get access to a mirror, I think that is the best way to fix these types of things because you get real time feedback. Also depending on the injury, maybe you need to work on strengthening that side some. If it is weak it may be allowing it to drop lower than the other side. That's just a thought as I am no doctor.
This is a great video! I will pay more attention to my form when I jump rope. Will check out the rest of your videos. Just started jumping rope. I would love to able to jump for 5mins for basic form. Last year I hurt my ankle a bit when I tried to jump after I worked at my pizzeria all day, did not pay attention. Too fast too soon. My ankle is better now, want to build my stamina on jumping rope. It isn’t as easy as it seems. I am doing 50jumps each day for 2 weeks. Today is my second day.
Glad to hear you've healed up. Yes take it slow and listen to your body. You'll be surprised how much better you get over time. Always practice with intention!
I can confirm this. I've started jump roping last week and the thing that causes me trip the most is because I'm not symmetrical. Either one arm is drifting to side and above or both. So I fixed it and now I don't trip that much! In fact, on my 3rd day I did 110 consecutive jumps without tripping.
When starting out you can expect some lower leg soreness and pain as your body gets used to jumping. Just be sure to give some breaks, stretch, and don't overdue it. That can lead to injuries like plantar fasciitis or shin splints. Gradually increase duration over time👍
So, assuming I can stay centered...how far in front of my toes should the rope be hitting the ground?? I know that's mostly a length issue, but this shows me I can chase rope length all day, but my form is WAY more important to that small strike zone.
I've been doing the bounce step without much trouble but as soon as I started doing more intermediate exercises, I kept tripping. I'll try to see if these apply to those as well. Thanks for the video.
I just started jump roping last month and I get really frustrated when I trip. Thanks for uploading this, I think I do all of those mistakes mentioned that's why i trip a lot lol.
Bud can you make a video on how to skip for longer durations... i have good form and all but can't carry it forward after like 1 min and eventually trip up
Yoga mats can be a little to padded which cause the rope to bounce off of it and into your feet. I use a horse stall mat. Crossrope also released a nice new mat as well.
Hey Kyle one more question please? The mat you’re using looks like a good size. Can you tell me the dimensions and what kind of material it’s made of? Thinking of getting something to protect my Crossropes (which arrived yesterday!) from hitting concrete to avoid excessive wear & tear. Thanks again!
It's a 4'x6' rubber horse stall mat and it's 1/2" thick. It's heavy so not very portable, but if you just want it around the house it's 👍. Check out gorilla mats too. They have been sold out of their 4'x6' mat, but I am interested in trying it out for more portability.
great suggestions , no way near your level but I am able to skip by barely getting off the ground, but my rope just got broken, i need a new rope, waiting for this lock down to end so that I could buy a good quality rope
Dam I found the error of my jump roping lol I put it forward because I like the sound of the whip on the ground, but now I see I put it too far forward when I'm tired. Thanks my man, its hard to see from crappy self-record angles when you don't know what your looking for.
Frustrating when the rope goes between the feet -- I had figured thst I was hanging one foot (toes) lower than the other and hooking the rope. I gotta remember these wrist/arm anomalies and compare :-)
😫 I have all the problems and worst of all, it manifested into a habit. Trying to correct it requires a lot of conscious effort and it's really taking the fun out of skipping since I start to trip even more while trying to adjust due to unfamiliarity and slight discomfort.
Everything worthwhile takes effort. I had to overcome bad habits when I started as well. It can be grueling, but hang in there and keep practicing the right stuff and you will get thru it🤜💪
It's common to trip on the lightest rope. Just be conscious of your tempo and slow it down a little bit more with the 1/4 lb rope while you develop the feel for it👍
Thank you for this video! 🙏 I applied these tips today and they made a huge impact! I was able to jump for a longer period without tripping and your tips made me more mindful of my form! I started jumping rope a few weeks ago and I look forward to learning more. Subbed! ❤

I know that's mostly a length issue, but this shows me I can chase rope length all day, but my form is WAY more important to that small strike zone.
I think 6-8 inches in front of your feet is a good spot to aim for. Any further away and instead of skimming the ground, it's going to be slapping it.

Check out gorilla mats too. They have been sold out of their 4'x6' mat, but I am interested in trying it out for more portability.
Jump 15 - Jump Rope Fitness great thanks very much will check those out. Have a great weekend!
super helpful
🤜👍
Thank you bro
great suggestions , no way near your level but I am able to skip by barely getting off the ground, but my rope just got broken, i need a new rope, waiting for this lock down to end so that I could buy a good quality rope
A good rope makes all the difference!
Beginner here. 😂 thanks for the recommendations!
Welcome!
Dam I found the error of my jump roping lol I put it forward because I like the sound of the whip on the ground, but now I see I put it too far forward when I'm tired. Thanks my man, its hard to see from crappy self-record angles when you don't know what your looking for.
Glad it helped! I would recommend snagging an inexpensive tripod for your phone. It will provide much better angles for review👍
Very good video!
🤜🤘
Frustrating when the rope goes between the feet -- I had figured thst I was hanging one foot (toes) lower than the other and hooking the rope. I gotta remember these wrist/arm anomalies and compare :-)
Great stuff bro. Been there, done it, tripped while learning new tricks😅
Have to go thru it to get better. 🤙
@@Jump15official yeah, well said.😅
Thanks I have a daughter who was bad at this now she is a professional 😀
🤘
Very helpful!
👍
😫 I have all the problems and worst of all, it manifested into a habit. Trying to correct it requires a lot of conscious effort and it's really taking the fun out of skipping since I start to trip even more while trying to adjust due to unfamiliarity and slight discomfort.
Everything worthwhile takes effort. I had to overcome bad habits when I started as well. It can be grueling, but hang in there and keep practicing the right stuff and you will get thru it🤜💪
Best video on form
🤙 Glad it helped
I have the get fit from Crossrope. I find myself tripping on the quarter pound rope more than any other rope
It's common to trip on the lightest rope. Just be conscious of your tempo and slow it down a little bit more with the 1/4 lb rope while you develop the feel for it👍
Also if your rope is the wrong size, you should adjust it because that is how I was able to get more consistent.
For sure this👍 If your rope is the wrong size your form and technique will be off.
I'm beginner jump rope I stuff from all of this time to focus on correcting it all
It's all about learning what works and what doesn't. Identify the causes of trips and do your best to eliminate those.
Two years late but, excellent video. Thank you 🙏
Never too late and You're very welcome!
I can only jump less than 10, this is a great video for us beginner. Thank You.
You're so welcome!
