6:34 I’ll always remember a theory I read during the upcoming release of DMC5, when people speculated that Capcom was going to change the series order from 3142 to 31245. (Before it was officially announced that they did). Someone said “Maybe between 1 and 2, Dante’s favorite sundae shop closed down.” After that, it was forever in my “head canon”, that despite all the trials Dante had been through, the only thing to bum him out enough to exhibit a drastic change in attitude was all because he couldn’t get any more ice cream. Classic Dante. He got over it, of course.

@@ciligonzalez2897 Trust me, the difference between DMC 2 and 3 is night and day. DMC 3 is considered one of the best action games ever made, and with good reason. I have no qualms about recommending that everybody skips DMC 2.
@@ciligonzalez2897 Since you're playing the 3rd game, let me brief you the rest. DMC4:SE: It has 5 character, Nero(newcomer), Dante, Trish, Lady and Vergil Nero utilize brute force in his combat, really great for beginner. He also has snatch ability that depending on the size of enemy, allow him to snatch demon to him or bring himself closer to demon. His sword is a motor for some reason, and you can rev it to up to 3 levels, which increase his attack speed and power significantly and it's really awesome seeing him go haywire. There's a skill you can buy where if you press it at a right time, it will automatically fill up all 1 level and if you time it even right, it can fill all 3 level. So, if you're a posses godlike QTE ability, you can infinitely charged your attack. You like Dante in DMC3? You like all his style but hate that you can choose one at a time? You like all the weapon but disappointed that you can't carry more than 2? How about we give you the ability to switch style on the fly. Oh, and you can carry 3 melee and 3 range weapon now. Trish is like Dante, except she can't switch weapon and style. Lady focus more on range and kinda make the game quite easy. Vergil carry it's tradition as being OP as ever. DmC: Didn't play it yet, personally, I think it's fine, just it doesn't deserve the "DMC" name. DMC5: 4 character, Nero, Dante, V(newcomer) and Vergil(DLC and Special Edition) The best version of Nero. Now his arm can do more than just snatch. The best version of Dante, now you can carry much more weapon and unleash a crazy amount of possibilities of combo you can imagine. V is surprisingly quite unique. You are a summoner type and let all your summon do all the work for you. Quite fun and easy for beginner. Vergil is still as OP as ever.
Quite a lot of things in this game had great concepts but failed in execution: Dante’s Majin Devil Trigger, Lucia, Dante’s outfit, and the environment demons and that’s it... Honestly if they take these ideas and put them in a game with the combat system of DMC 5 and tune up the voice acting and plot and you got a pretty awesome game.
@@8Kazuja8 True you do have a point...well ignore the Majin Devil Trigger thing but yeah your right on how Lucia was just wasted since she felt like she would be an awesome partner with Dante. Also the clothes yeah are not that important but sometimes the outfit looks cool to bring attention to people. Also the demon bosses in DMC2 are very interesting but badly implanted due to the shitty gameplay where if they updated it with DMC5 style of combat with DMC3 style of difficulty then you would get a tough and fun game. Also the voice acting and the plot REALLY needs to be worked on since the plot is so bare bones it doesn't even feel like a DMC game...I mean DMC1, DMC3. DMC4 and DMC5 had massive plots threaded together and gave some semblance of an ongoing saga but DMC2 feels so disjointed when you put it with the other games...it almost feels like the game was just a day of a random moment.
Not to mention a headcanon where he's actually contracted by Lucifer is able to make sense to the point you can put Dante's journey in Nocturne as canon in the mainline DMC series where it's believed as a sequel to DMC2, seeing his attribute and additude Well... it's just a headcanon though but still impressive nonetheless

My best friend in 1st grade let me borrow DMC2 on the last day of school and I was to give it back to him the first day of 2nd grade but he moved away and I never saw him again. I never forgave him for leaving me with such a disappointing game.
So if i get it right, DMC2's disappointing development is what led Itsuno to reach out and make DMC 3, then they needed a lead artist for the Devil Triggers so they asked for Atlus designer Kazuma Kameko to be on board. Which due to a deal led to Dante's inclusion in SMT III Nocturne and the cool design of the SDTs. (Inspired by DMC 3 Devil Trigger's) *I don't regret DMC2 ever again.*
Man, I remember when this came out when I was in 8th grade. I really liked it then. Then a year later played Dmc1 and found that to be the better one. Then 3 came out and changed everything. I always liked Lucia's story. I don't think she's prickly because you see towards the end how she's trying to deal with everything, plus the ending. Her story has a good twist and satisfying end. Hope to see her again in Dmc6.
Man, going into this game for the first time was a trip. I was completely unaware of this games reputation until I started. Easily one of the worst games I’ve ever played. Probably won’t be going back to it unless I’m REALLY desperate for a Platinum like with Ride To Hell.
I love this channel and I love this show and I absolutely ADORE THE COMMITMENT TO RELEASE A VIDEO SO FREQUENTLY WITHOUT DIMINISHING IT'S QUALITY. I don't know how you achieve this Matt but you're the greatest.
I had always wondered why I had never heard anyone talk about DMC2. I've never played the games, making me out of loop. But this game in particular hardly gets a glance it feels like. More importantly, I didn't realize this is the first time they tried to change Dante's personality (and have it received poorly). I'd heard about the DMC remake game that everyone...I think pretty much hated for how they portrayed Dante in that. So I guess the lesson here is, "Don't try to change Dante from being a wisecrack. That's literally what's appealing about him." Makes sense to me.
For the second video in a row, I'm amazed someone else remembers Spyborgs existed. I saw Nintendo Power talk about it a few times in the leadup to its release, and once it hit, I have never heard anyone say anything about it, nor have I ever seen it on shelves.
You have no idea how badly I would love for Kamiya to be given a chance to remake both DMC & DMC2. The story in that games would be so fucking outta control, you'd think the original DMC2 was some kind of fucking fever dream. The best part of DMC2 was Dante's design and Lucia.
@Baron o Markers Adjustments can be made. The games doesn't need to just a visual upgrade. They can re-imagine parts of the island to have it fit within changes to gameplay, too. DMC2 needs a complete overhaul in every aspect.
@Baron o Markers I would leave it to just one infested piece of military hardware, but would add an encounter with a demon possessing one of high military rank prior to that boss fight to have it make sense than just show up for the memes.
@Baron o Markers DMC2 has a megaton of potential to be great. For something like a tank fight to be exciting, I think they'd need to make that fight be similar to the Shagohod fight when Volgin was controlling it through wires using his suit, but they'd need to make it where a demon would telepathically control a tank crew.
@Baron o Markers The way the city of Redgrave in DMC5 is designed should be the way that small country should be in 2. Maybe a mech designed by a company that Arius heads could be a solution to that.
Dude...this game tarnished and almost sunk the franchise All i remember is huge open spaces and baddies being too damn far apart to get a combo going. Music was...not too bad i suppose
Thank you for all your efforts to gather so much info in these games and making these videos, I always have a blast watching them. The humour is also spot on, great job, and I love that you added your mascot doing reactions in some moments in the videos.
I actually have an unironic love for DMC2. Entirely because it was the first one I played and caused me to play the rest of the games. Despite everything the aesthetic and bad ass designs of Dante and Lucia made me go "this is cool" and kept an eye out for Devil May Cry after that. And now DMC4(Special edition because when I think of 3 and 4 their special editions are what I think of) is one of my all time favorite games and I owe that to DMC2
I still wanna see a remake of this game. With modern graphics, updating Dante's behavior or giving him reasons to banter more, with the Lucia missions happening between Dante missions, that'd be pretty good.
I believe the director for DMC2 is a ghostwriter. He remains to be secretive with his identity so no one would attack him for his irony. Sorta like some Last Airbender movie shit with Shaymalan put to the side without making his vision. Also, I do appreciate it that DMC3 saved the franchise! It even got me into DMC, as well as considering Dante to be one of the funniest video game protagonists since DMC3, that includes DMC4 and DMC5!
I played through this game for the first time on the HD Collection on the 360. The only things I really took away were the tanks, chopper, and Simmons from RE6.
Something I’ve always wanted to see from the dmc series from Capcom is to blend the first games level design with the 3rd games combat, or 4th or 5th cause they just have more refinement, but regardless I would love to see more of the backtracking puzzle solving and familiarizing yourself with the levels and mysteries. I would actually love to see a dmc game that doubles down on that stuff... and also if you are gonna have multiple playable characters it would be nice if each character had their own 20 mission campaigns. But I’d also like missions structure to change and just be checkpoints that make style points and stuff and big events. I guess dmc 1 and 3 do this but idk hopefully this thought made some since though
DMC2 Dante basically had the wildest party ever the day before the game's event, and started said game's events with a massive hangover and then found out his favorite ice cream shop got closed down for good
I don't usually leave comments under videos and I haven't even finished watching this one, but I just wanted to say game covers at 1:41 going 2-4-3-5 and not 2-3-4-5 really pisses me off, so good job.
I remember the exact moment I was concerned for the quality of DMC2. It was an "exclusive first look" cover article in a magazine. IIRC it was the producer that was quoted on saying "I have a very different view on what makes something cool" pertaining to Dante and the overall style of the game. This was a big giant flashing red warning light.
Great video as always Matt!!! It still is amazing how Itsuno made a functional game within 6 months, and tbh I'm somewhat grateful to DMC2 being the way it is cause without it we wouldn't have had DMC3 one of the greatest games ever made, thank you so much Itsuno-san! And I'm so happy the series is going strong again since DMC5 reviving the franchise again!
I tried to give DMC 2 a shot but once I realized the lack of weapon combos, lack of weapon types, and BORING levels i skipped straight to 3. Let's rock!
Considering where this game has been placed in the timeline it DOES make sense for Dante to be dark and brooding at this point in time, especially if you play the games in chronological order. Think of DMC 2 as the moment that Dante almost became just like Vergil, almost giving in to his darker, demonic side. DMC 2 is what might have been if Dante and Vergil were switched, and Dante experienced what Vergil had instead.
DMC3 was my introduction to the series as a kid, and when I played through and enjoyed the first one I was expecting DMC2 to fall somewhere between them. I was so disappointed and confused with what I got instead.

I’ll always remember a theory I read during the upcoming release of DMC5, when people speculated that Capcom was going to change the series order from 3142 to 31245. (Before it was officially announced that they did).
Someone said “Maybe between 1 and 2, Dante’s favorite sundae shop closed down.”
After that, it was forever in my “head canon”, that despite all the trials Dante had been through, the only thing to bum him out enough to exhibit a drastic change in attitude was all because he couldn’t get any more ice cream.
Classic Dante.
He got over it, of course.
I'd be devastated too if my favorite Ice-Cream parlor were to close for good. Rest In Peace Cowabunga Ice Cream.
Wait I thought it was 32145?
The one saving grace of DMC2: at least it gave Dante a cool jacket
DMC2 Dante may get a lot of shit, but his line "A false coin for a false god." is still one of the best "fuck you" statements in the entire series.
Along with, "King? Yeah, here's your crown."
Don’t forgot “your swan song will”
He has the best outfit and rebellion design in the entire franchise as well.

Me, just starting DMC2 after finishing DMC1: “This doesn’t seem so bad.”
Immediately upon getting into combat: “Oh... oh no...”
Man im doing exactly that..., what the actual fuck? Horrible, horrible game, dante is fun to control, but holy shit Mr flicks, tha game looks ass, i just beated the building demon.
Edit: okay I fucking finished it. To anyone getting into the series SKIP THIS GAME. Nothing to see here, no lore no story, no shit. It just made me feel even more the problems of the first one. I really hope the third one is good because man, im not super impresed with the series now.
@@ciligonzalez2897
Trust me, the difference between DMC 2 and 3 is night and day. DMC 3 is considered one of the best action games ever made, and with good reason.
I have no qualms about recommending that everybody skips DMC 2.
@@OrangeyChocolate im playing the third one now, just beated (or got beaten by) vergil for the first time. Fucking. Amazing. Game.
@@ciligonzalez2897
Glad you're having a much better time with this one.
@@ciligonzalez2897 Since you're playing the 3rd game, let me brief you the rest.
DMC4:SE: It has 5 character, Nero(newcomer), Dante, Trish, Lady and Vergil
Nero utilize brute force in his combat, really great for beginner.
DMC5: 4 character, Nero, Dante, V(newcomer) and Vergil(DLC and Special Edition)
The best version of Nero.
Honestly I kinda want Lucia to come back in another game. Her design is pretty good and I think she deserves a another shot.
I agree!
" Another *_shot_* " poor choice of words
@@amirking5452 This is Capcom we’re talking about
@@8Kazuja8 True you do have a point...well ignore the Majin Devil Trigger thing but yeah your right on how Lucia was just wasted since she felt like she would be an awesome partner with Dante.
Funny how SMT3: Nocturne was able to capture the essence of Dante's character than this game ever did.
real gamers skip DMC2 and play nocturne instead
cant believe nocturne HD port is selling DMC2 for 10 dollars as DLC crazy
Was hoping to see a comment about Nocturne. Dante was fucking cool in that game unlike DMC2 lol
Not to mention a headcanon where he's actually contracted by Lucifer is able to make sense to the point you can put Dante's journey in Nocturne as canon in the mainline DMC series where it's believed as a sequel to DMC2, seeing his attribute and additude
Well... it's just a headcanon though but still impressive nonetheless
Capcom is like a more sympathetic Konami

So if i get it right, DMC2's disappointing development is what led Itsuno to reach out and make DMC 3, then they needed a lead artist for the Devil Triggers so they asked for Atlus designer Kazuma Kameko to be on board. Which due to a deal led to Dante's inclusion in SMT III Nocturne and the cool design of the SDTs. (Inspired by DMC 3 Devil Trigger's)

@Baron o Markers And certainly don't change the style of the voice acting for Arius. Did somebody order a LARGE HAM?
I also need to know what these fans were "feeling" with DMC2. I'm truly interested.
I still remember the CrowbCat video on this game, legendary.

"In DMC2 i was feeling it"
The only thing i've ever felt while playing DMC2 was my soul slowly leaving my body
I still wanna see a remake of this game. With modern graphics, updating Dante's behavior or giving him reasons to banter more, with the Lucia missions happening between Dante missions, that'd be pretty good.
I really don't want a remake of this, I'd rather for them to spend resources on a dmc6 and just bring Lucia back than taking years to remake dmc2
Idk how you pump these out every week but just know that it's appreciated! Always look forward to waking up and watching these on the weekends
I played through this game for the first time on the HD Collection on the 360. The only things I really took away were the tanks, chopper, and Simmons from RE6.
At least you get dmc 3
My head canon is that Dante from DMC 2 is his mute grandson that is trapped in a branching timeline dimension.
Isn't that already explained?
DMC2 Dante basically had the wildest party ever the day before the game's event, and started said game's events with a massive hangover and then found out his favorite ice cream shop got closed down for good
As far as everyone is concerned SMT Nocturne is the real Devil May Cry 2.

One thing I like from dmc 2 is the customizable devil trigger
To be fair, would anyone want to put *"Devil May Cry 2 Director"* in their job resume?
2:14 LMAO What is the original video?
“What a pittance” indeed Diesel..l”what a pittance” indeed..
Diesel brand clothing in DMC: What a pittance!
I tried to give DMC 2 a shot but once I realized the lack of weapon combos, lack of weapon types, and BORING levels i skipped straight to 3. Let's rock!
HEY, DMC2 has a great OST, yeah, the songs play against horrible bosses and enemies, but the song themselves are great
Considering where this game has been placed in the timeline it DOES make sense for Dante to be dark and brooding at this point in time, especially if you play the games in chronological order.
