      After watching lot of comparisons it sounds right... The 14" model is perfect working fully with the basic M1 Pro 8c/14c. If you put the $300 extra for the 10/16 it works still great but maybe you prefer put another $200 extra for the 16" model
      The 8c/14c was more than enough for me and I prefer the 14" size so I preferred to use the money on improving RAM and SSD

    • @nissan_skyline
      @nissan_skyline 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@hottroddinn Lol, I did! I bought the 14 inch MacBook Pro base model. My favorite thing about it was the screen, i's sooooo good. I ended up returning it though and went back to my M1 MacBook Pro 13inch because a new laptop wasn't really a necessity for me at the time, but now my 13 inch M1 is starting to feel sluggish and the battery drains a lot faster, so now I'm ready for an upgrade. I initially had my eyes on the Mac Studio but with the recent announcement of M2 and the completely redesigned MacBook Air dropping next month, I now have my eyes on that lol. I care more about RAM than storage space, so I'm planning to order the base model M2 MacBook Air (in one of the pretty new colors) with 256GB storage and I'll probably upgrade the RAM from 8GB to the max 24GB and the GPU from 8 cores to 10. I would suggest waiting until next month for the M2 devices to drop but if you need a more powerful machine, a maxed out M1 MacBook Pro 14in/16in, or a Mac Studio would probably be the way to go.

      I would agree with you for the simple point that overtime the software will be more optimized for M1. Which will only make even the lower end that much quicker. In my experience as a creative if you can do what you want and it’s quicker than just go for it. You don’t need it lightning fast you need it to work well and to be efficient. these machines are very efficient especially when not powered from the wall. That is huge. I’m not a gamer and I understand the huge difference there but it also makes a difference when you’re working on things and when you unplug a laptop and you’re down to like 25 to 30% I mean as far as power not necessarily percentage of charging. It’s just it’s it’s game changer but I think we have to stop looking at it as future proofing by getting a more powerful model and look at it almost backwards to say as the software gets better you don’t need the supercharged one

      @@toptiertech7291 Indeed, the M1 would be enough for my use as well. The only reason I’m going for the base 14” is because of the additional features. Not the CPU/GPU. The screen, ports, webcam, keyboard, charger, etc are worth the extra for me personally. The price difference between a 13” MBP with 16GB and 512 SSD isn’t all that crazy of a jump compared to the new base model. I don’t think that it would be wise to buy a 13” if you need more than 8GB of ram or more than 256 in SSD ATM.

    Thanks for a great video. I am no expert but I am intrigued by the following issue: CPU performance tests also to a certain extend, are influenced by the RAM performance. I understood that system performance is determined by 3 elements: CPU / GPU cores/speed + RAM capacity + bandwith. In this test you’ve compared 8/14 vs 10/16 cores. In. Another video you’ve compared 16 vs 32 gb which makes sense. But what if in test 1 the benefits from the unbind version are not visible due to RAM limits. Or vice versa, perhaps the 32 machine couldn’t benefit over 16 gb model due to cpu restrictions. It would be interesting to see memory usage when you do the low vs high cores test?

    • @roguewavecreative
      @roguewavecreative 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great point and of course. I know you should probably not use the phrase of course a lot because then that means something else could change. The thing that nobody or hardly anybody talks about that as more software becomes M1 optimized it will only make things better. I’m a graphic designer and adobe has optimized Photoshop illustrator and mostly everything. What they have not optimized is after effects and you can tell because it’s a memory hog and not being optimized with Rosetta it really slows things down. Once they optimize it and I’m sure they will optimize it more over time it might even be us the complete opposite of future proofing. I’ve heard so many of these tech reviewer‘s in the past talk about future proofing. Any Intel world I think that was understandable and quite frankly prudent. In the M1 world I don’t think it is unless you are using it for something crazy. I mean it’s like the argument of like should I get the 14 inch or the 16 inch for $200 more. It all comes down to need. Of course if you can get the bigger screen and you’re not lugging it around all the time with her and Dar. But if you travel a lot and you can use an iPad Pro as a second screen do you really need it

    I would stay at the base model, but upgrade to a 10-core CPU anyway for not only the faster 96W charger, but also just in case Apple decides 8-core CPUs aren't good enough anymore and they stop updating those machines. No need to worry about the GPU, unless you feel the need for the extra cores for whatever reason. The key thing is to think long term when you're configuring these machines, since Mac computers are not user upgradable.

I have a couple of questions: while the lower spec’ed models are likely to be more than enough power for most use cases in 2021, will this hold true in 2026 and onwards? Another excellent M1 test/comparison and review MaxT! 👍
    It's VERY clear now that the 8 core works much the same and quieter with only a marginal increase in performance on the 10 core & only for some Apps! 🤔
    As a result it is essentially the same as the 10 core except maybe for some uses! This Real World testing CONFIRMS it? 👌
    So we won't be paying Apple the extra $300 for another 2 cores and instead be putting it towards a bigger SSD? 😃
    Killer comparison/test and answers this important 8/10 core question once and for ALL on these new M1 systems! 👏
