    I've had the 955cc Speed Triple for 18 years. Still looks great, goes like a train, handles well and is very reliable. Had no major issues since I bought it. I do 300 mile + day runs on the twisty roads of Scotland regularly and it's pretty comfortable. I have no problem in keeping up with any of the other guys on their sports bikes. Pretty sure the 1050 R will be absolutely spectacular to ride.

    The exhaust is not free-flowing. At least not in the US. There's restrictors welded into the twin exhausts. You have to either cut them out, or just swap to a low mount can. Doing the latter cuts almost 20 lbs off the weight too.

    • @triumphontour895
      @triumphontour895 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      ItsMeEricB thought it was strange. I have an RS and love it, but it has some floors, had a recall on the quick shifter which for my bike came too late as the fault caused the gearbox to explode and the whole engine needed to be rebuilt (under Warentee luckily) and now, just last month there was a new factory recall on the brake pads.

    • @itsmeericb
      @itsmeericb  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Triumph OnTour Oh wow! That’s crazy! Is this normal for Triumphs?

    • @triumphontour895
      @triumphontour895 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      ItsMeEricB not massively, it’s my second Triumph and the reason I love the brand is that they have possibly the best build quality and finishing of any manufacturer. They really are a premium bike, but their customer service is lacking a little - I had the issue with the quick shifter for a year where it would find a false neutral going up from 4th to 5th almost every time and if you’re giving it the beans, it’s really dangerous. They checked it over about 5 times telling me there was nothing wrong with it, but after a little while longer the same issue kept popping up on forums for the Speed RS - then my gearbox goes bang litterally 2 days before I got my product recall through the post ! Due to lock down in the U.K., they had my bike for almost 8 weeks while they carried out the rebuild (with no option of a courtesy bike for the inconvenience). It seems to be fine now but was disheartened to get another factory recall letter again just last month (for the brake pads this time) so am hoping this is the last one !! The only other frustrating thing is that Triumph have been boasting about their Blu-tooth connectivity package for over a year now and it still isn’t available as an upgrade for the Speed RS which is crap as it has been made available for cheaper and less advanced bikes in their range

    What's the advantage of keyless ignition?

    • @itsmeericb
      @itsmeericb  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      specialized500 You dint have to fumble around taking a key out of your pocket. Just get on and go.

    • @karlosh9286
      @karlosh9286 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just got one of these . It's a wonderful bike, apart from keyless ignition.
      I've got used to the keyless ignition, but it is a bit pointless.
      You still need the key for the petrol/gas filler cap and to get under the seat. You have to press a button to engage the electric steering lock.
      You could potentially drop the key on the floor at the petrol/gas station, the bike would still run and you could ride off without the key. Then if you stopped the engine you wouldn't be able to restart it. If there was an option to NOT have keyless ignition, I would have taken it. So you need to keep checking, at say petrol / gas stations, that the key is in your pocket. A bike with an ignition switch, well you can see it in front of you !
      However the keyless ignition is a minor niggle. There are other things Triumph could have included as standard that would be more useful. i.e. heated grips !
      The only other niggle I have is the petrol/gas tank could be a bit larger , it is 15.5 litres / 4.1 US Gallons / 3.4 UK Gallons. It does about 52 Miles per UK Gallon ( 43 Miles Per US Gallon ), so the range of the tank to empty is about 175 miles. Thus usable range between fill ups is about 150 miles.
      The rest of the bike is wonderful, has way more power than I need, handles really well, is pretty comfortable to ride, and I love the sound of the triple engine coming from the Arrow end cans.

      The only thing the Tuono has over the Speed is power and the Speed makes more power than the Tuono until 7k rpm. The power delivery of the Speed is also way better than the Tuono for every day riding. Riding the Tuono on normal roads is a chore because of how boggy and rattly it is at lower rpms. The base Speed is also $1,200 less than the base Tuono, so you're getting more performance in the rpm you'd be riding in on the street, for less.
