  • This is the best cycling city my wife and I have ever visited. In Taipei, Taiwan there are many safe dedicated cycling paths, many hill climb mountain roads nearby the city, and a lot of great food all around. It is an absolute playground for road bike cycling.

I think this is my favorite place you've been aside from Japan. It looks so chill, spacious, and well planned with respectful people.
That being said, its Taiwan. Wonderful country.

As a cyclist like you, the first thing I want to say is "good on you"!
I'm very happy to learn that you and your wife have come to Taiwan for cycling.
I''ma Taiwanese citizen living in a suburb Taichung City, Taiwan.
I cycle 800~1200km per month in winter, 500~800km per month in summer for commuting, for shopping or just for recreation.
I basically ban myself from using motorized vehicles, so I know many of the weather challenges and potential technical issues when it comes to cycling.
Taipei is nicknamed "the city of rain" in winter. But if you came to Taichung during the same period, you would have found that the weather is drastically different. Since December 2022, there has been only one rainy morning in Taichung and that's it!
The bicycle infrastructure(cycling roads) in Taichung might not be as complete as it is in Taipei, but if you like cycling in cool months in Taiwan, Taichung is the place I strongly recommend.

Ha ha, please send us your gloomy Taipei weather, as we are getting dumped by forecast of up to 10 cm of snow today & it will fall to -11 C in Vancouver BC area. It will still be better than what Michigan will get this month. Thanks again 4 supporting Taiwan tourism & hope you get lots of material to create updated food content. 😂

@@TwoWheelCruise You might rethink that when u live in west coast and system is not setup for snow or ice removal. Last month early snow dump resulted in 7 to 9 hours commute home for some in Vancouver & Seattle, it was a nightmare. Ensure you try the ice cream burrito with shaved peanut candy and cilantro this time.

I've been to Taiwan 4 times now on business trips (semiconductor industry). Staying in Taipei once and Taichung 3 times. Really enjoyed each visit despite the crushing jet lag (I'm from the UK). Had earthquakes on 2 visits, one just a minor tremor, the second a lot more interesting shall we say. Sadly never got to cycle there! Plenty of brompton supporters there and a great aftermarket parts supplier in Taipei called bikegang. Enjoy your trip, I'd love to go back sometime.

loved the way cities, parks & hills (nature) are integrated
but this is first time i've seen "river paths"
can't believe the network thats a separate layer so they don't cross paths with vehicles ...

Yong He, used to be, or still is, the most densely populated area in the world if I remember rightly. I rode up Yangmingshan on the hottest day for years! Didn’t know that at the time. I like those bikes and look forward to seeing the video about them. They seem particularly well adapted to climbing and look well suited to a wide range of riders. The main difference (compared to a folding bike) I see is that your position is not that different from a road bike and you seem quite comfortable on the descent.

Would like to retire to somewhere like that with that community of elders. I read they are respected a lot in Asia too? Certainly Japan. Also 2 wheeled transport makes much more sense in cities. Be it cycle, Eeeb or scooter. Take up less space. And wow, how quickly you left the city and up a mountain!

I recommend you to ride to Da-xi old street (大溪老街), or to San-xia old street (三峽老街),southwest part of Taipei, and eat something there. You can ride from Ximending along the river, and ride directly to these two places, and 100% ride without cars. And for the San-xia (三峽), you have to ride across the Gan-cheng Bridge (柑城橋). And for the Da-xi (大溪), you had better ride on west side of the river.

Sorry guys, you're wrong. Taiwan is one full on, moped/scooter, mob, posse' that have super MAD skills! 😂
In rush hour they dominate the streets weaving in and around and through cars and each other somehow not colliding! As a cyclist, your best bet is to be fully passive and steady. Unnerving, but the way they maneuver is remarkable. I've seen some smart looking gals styling it with custom made very femenine clothing, spaghetti backpacks with matching helmets. (You're comment on the vid was an understatement😊)
BTW, visited Taipei Bike Works when had a prob after assembling my bicycle. I usually dred visiting bike shops as a reminder of a bit of misery from my days working in shop, but these were the nicest folk i've come across in a bicycle establishment. Highly recommend them for any service, rental and tours. (Saw one of their solo personal tours come in as i was waiting for open-Taiwan caters to late hours)

I’ve heard a lot of bike manufacturing happens in Taiwan. Any chance of dropping by a bike manufacturing district or factories?

    • @TwoWheelCruise
      @TwoWheelCruise  ปีที่แล้ว +4

That would be cool, but I'm not sure if any of them would let us in to film.

@@TwoWheelCruise I've seen youtubers with less subscribers getting invited by bike manufactures in Taiwan. Give it a try, esp. near the time around cycling trade show events. 😉 or sign up for "Taiwan KOM" next spring or fall, you'll get to meet plenty of people in the industry.

I'd love to visit Taiwan, for an extended stay. But it ain't gonna happen, unfortunately. 😮‍💨 Anyway, stay safe and enjoy yourselves.

I really like your videos from Taiwan!
    Also the food there.
Speaking of food, your wife has lost too much weight. He needs to eat more, otherwise he will look like a "skeleton" (sorry) and get sick (God forbid).
I wish you health and many positive emotions in Taipei!
    Have a nice time !

Frankly, the grey skies do not impact at all on the enjoyment of your lovely bike tours of places I have never visited before ; so ride away !
The free availability of sporting facilities is just terrific and the rapid access to mountain paths make all the different to this densely populated city.
It would be a decent place to settle in if it were not built on a seismic area and even more worryingly, actively coveted by the Chinese dictatorship for imminent annexion !
