Yeah, ive learned (the hard way) that its not neccesarily how hard the kick is, but where it lands. Even in last night's practice, i was leg kicked for an hour pretty hard. But mostly it wasnt bad bc i was turning my quad into the kick just a little (not checking it, but not passively eating it either). But i missed that twice, and it landed on the side of the leg on the IT band. And hoo boy, i almost went down both times.
I remember getting hit on a certain part of the thigh like that and it hurt like hell. It's that really small part where you can feel the bone and it doesn't take much force to get you reeling in pain. This kinda goes to show the precision of Tawanchai's kicks.
You wish budd 😂 he could kick you in the meatiest part of your thigh and just sink in the high part of the shin. He does have precision but given his conditioning and power he doesn't have to kick you anywhere specific he can blast any part of your thigh
Do you know which part that is? It's right on your hamstring. Specifically the part where the knee bends. It's just that I've been kicked there before and it lingers for a month.
The pain comes from accurately hitting the thicker part of the tendon where the iliotibial band and tensor fasciae latae muscle tendon converge. Which is also the most sensitive part of the tendon. thus hurting when not having to put as much power. Just use a foam roller with spikes and roll against the lateral side of your leg while keeping it straight. The part where it hurts the most, that's where the money is. Your welcome :)
Tawanchai doesn't know this. It's just the way he lifts his kicking leg after loading it and it happens to be effective. Most gyms teach you to swing like a bat but this is too slow. In Thailand the good gyms teach you to kick straight up at first to get the most speed then turn over. He's just very good at the speed and timing.
Ikr. I'd root for Haggerty, although I think Tawanchai is more likely to win. Either way, that should be an amazing match. Problem is Tawanchai is featherweight and Haggerty just climbed to bantamweight
It’s where he strikes yes above the knee on the thigh very painful. But also how he steps laterally same side kick. It’s important because this gets the opponent to place his weight on his lead leg to face. But this only works on same stance fighters
I usually tilt my knee out when taking a leg kick so the kick lands on the front of the thigh(which is angled) instead of the side/back. Of course checking is the better option, unless your shins are already busted up from previous checks.
Hard to say cause of how fast it was, might of been a kickboxing kick cause that’s how I always kick. With the groove between the foot and shin. Using just the shin feels unnatural to me and I can’t get as much power in it
It's based off placement, conditioning and speed coordinated by solid ankle mobility, I would argue stepping in, instead of accepting the full flick of the wrist motion generated by the strike, instead of training the muscle do what Floyd did against Mc Gregor and step into the strike the further away you are in the exact extended point of impact range the worst it's going to be, he will start to drop his hands to activate the trained response of a flick of the wrist in his leg kick if you see it drop in the same range of motion step in, and theoretically you should be able to soften the blow. If you step in at the right range you may be able to hyper extended the knee, but only if you've trained the sequences in your body enough. Then slip into a leg sweep or clinch, that kind of technique you can't accept at full power, but there ideally are ways to bypass it as that is the mantra of martial arts 🥋.
@@TMothibi If you read the follow up, its because the opponent has a previous old injury and the kick caused the old injury to re-occur. So it was already weak to begin with. But yeah, Tawanchai's kicks are killer.
@@TMothibiim sure it depends on the kind of force.. kind of like how a tree has strength in different directions of force.. id like to see some myth busters about it.. It would also depend on the persons diet, lifestyle, epigenetics, genetics, and age
By the way, his "Side Teep" which is otherwise very good, is nevertheless highly telegraphed, which makes it relatively easy to counter and get inside on him.
Just started MMA practise and I'm really having to work on turning my leg out to receive these kicks, it seems so unnatural at first, but by crikey it can hurt and dead your leg if you don't, even at relatively low power.
I remember holding pads for a friend who does mma. He wanted to demo a low leg leg kick while I held a pad on my outer thigh. and the impact of a kick like that would still go through the pad , through my fats and muscles and what felt like hit the bone in my thigh. My whole leg felt paralysed, couldn't stand and pain radiated through out my whole leg. It was like getting hit in the thigh with a metal bat. I can't imagine a kick like that without the protection of a pad

It's been years since my training but I believe it's a part of the femoral nerve that he is striking on the outside of the thigh above the knee.
Femoral is an artery. This is the Sciatic nerve
Yep that’s exactly what he’s doing

His kick sounded like a axe chopping a log. 😫

can confirm from personal experience. Getting hit there HURTS and your leg would spaz out.
His tech is so fooking compact. That makes his kicks son quick and powerful

Interesting how he lands with the foot and not the shin
Except he didn't. He absolutely is using the lower part of his shin, with the foot going past the leg.
