      Hey Mark when are you back on the water and when will we see your next vid? I love your series and I live my sailing life vicariously through your channel :) I cant wait to get out on the water and see some of the amazing sights of the UK that you show in your channel. Special request from me take a trip out to Isle of Scillies and shoot some vids! I have always wanted to go there...

      @@aboatcalledwanda6925 Cheers Richard for watching the videos. Glad you enjoy them and can adventure vicariously, for now! We are back in the water and back on the move within a couple of weeks so our first episode will be along soon! Thanks for the Isle’s of Scilly tip. We will make sure we get there when we are back down south. All the very best to you! 👍

    That's perfect timing, I'm doing the same kind of project myself. I had thought about making a plug out of a plastic bag and triple expanding foam filled in the cavity. Looking forward to see the type of resin you use

    Nice one again Richard, happy to see you again. For the plugs you can use a dogleg chisel, might come handy for teak deck works as well. They last longer when the grain is put in the same direction. Good luck with those, and with the tank job as well!

      thanks I am trying a Japanese flush cutting saw - it is very flexible and has fine teeth that cut only across the side, so I can get a very flush cut.

    What you are proposing is pretty much what I had in mind, I am still figuring out how to make it easier to remove and replace all of the services in the engine room etc. that would be in the way. I had thought of making a repalcement tank that would have 2 sections, interconnected by connecting pipes top and bottom. That way if you should have to remove the tank, each section could be seperated and lifted out through the cockpit hatch. I am way behind you though, I still need to figure how to get the damn tank out without destroying the carpentry completely. Good luck and I am looking forward to your next episode.

      @@aboatcalledwanda6925 Thank you Richard, that is also on my list of possibilities ( which are ever growing) . Your project is very much thought of on the HR Owners Association site, you are covering work that most owners would dread. Keep up the good work.

      @aboatcalledwanda6925  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Norman, yeah I am not releasing videos as often as I would like. The boat is 40 minutes away so I can go out there fairly easily. The problem is I have a new job that that is fully consuming. Then I look after my 2.5 year old daughter one of the days on the weekend. So I get one day a week to myself and that is not aways 100% devoted to Wanda. it is challenge to find the right balance

    Hi Richard, the most brilliant project and fascinating for me as an HR352 owner who is suffering from a leaking diesel tank, albeit a slight one. Watching you cut out your tank was almost too much to bear. I notice that in this video you mention that if you want to take your new tank out for repair you can do so. I am wondering what provision you intend to make to be able to do that, without destroying all the carpentry again? Good luck and keep up the excellent work, it will be worth it, when you launch Wanda.

    • @aboatcalledwanda6925
      @aboatcalledwanda6925  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Jeff, always great to hear from a HR 352 owner. When I rebuild the cabinetry I will have a section panel just behind the companionway ladder. I will have this panel screwed in so that I can unscrew it and remove it. I can (once the engine is lifted) remove the fuel tank, lift it up and out of the bilge, bring it forwards through the panel that I just removed, and then up and out of the companionway hatch!

      My stainless tank sprang a leak two years ago. I had the choice of ripping it out through the engine bay with, as you say, the destruction of all that beautiful joinery, or cutting a hole in the side of the boat and having a new tank made. I took the latter option. My 352 was built in 1989 and the bottom of the tank was falling apart. Caesarean section was quicker and I had a new tank fabricated in 3mm (the original HR tank was 2mm) enveloped in glass and epoxy, which will outlive me.

    • @aboatcalledwanda6925
      @aboatcalledwanda6925  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jamesatsea2995 that makes perfect sense to me. Given so much of my cabinetry is ruined I am ok with ripping it out. But if it were all in good order I think what you did is a great option

    Why didn't you coat the G10 with the Scott Bader resin build the box and tape the edges?

    • @aboatcalledwanda6925
      @aboatcalledwanda6925  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I did think of that originally - the issue is the seams would not be strong (where the edges meet). I would need to bevel the edge to allow the tape to wrap around meaning the 3 mm thick G10 would become paper thin in these spots. These would be a likely point of failure I reckon. Making a one piece tank will be stronger and more flexible

    I was unaware that europe was adding ethanol to diesel or it is even possible. I am aware that biodiesel contains vegetable based oil but it is not an alcohol. Vegetable oil does not affect resin. I guess you are well ahead with the build but consult the book by Dave Gerr - Boat Mechanical Systems Handbook on design, baffles, glass lay up and thickness, pg 86. Best of luck with the build👍

    • @aboatcalledwanda6925
      @aboatcalledwanda6925  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I from what I have read it is a matter of when not if we start to see ethanol in diesel. Thanks for the tip I will seek out the book. I was going to reproduce the design for the stainless steel tank - 3 baffles with only a slight gap down the bottom

    • @DWAJarrett
      @DWAJarrett 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@aboatcalledwanda6925 Hi Richard I'm from Portland Vic. I firmly believe that alcohol based biofuel will never be added to diesel as it will reduce the fuels lubricating properties for diesel pumps and injectors. At present 10% methanol, I believe, is added to the vegie oil and a cathlitic process is used to upgrade the oil/alcohol to fuel quality. In this process the alcohol changes composition into one of the fuel oils. You maybe able to save some money on resin🙃 as prices probably have gone through the roof in europe as well. I really enjoy your videos, thanks so much👍

      @@DWAJarrett hey thanks for your information. This is a tricky topic and some of the science is a stretch for me. I believe that given the phase out of diesel in vehicles in Europe the same will follow for diesel and we will see more biofuel content and in particular ethanol. here are some articles I read. :
