    Hi Richard, as always your attention to detail does you great credit, the the planning and the work you put into making your fuel tank was remarkable. I am hoping that perhaps you can help me with 2 queries on the original tank please: do you happen to have the the full dimensions of the original tank? Also there appears to be some confusion as to whether the original fuel tank has horizonatal baffles as well as vertical ones, as far as I can tell there 3 vertical ones, but do you know for a fact iof the ogiginal tank had horizontal ones as well? Many thanks and I am looking forward to your next chapter. Jeff

    Hi Richard I've been following your channel for quite some time, as I am owner of HR352 no. 537 its very interesting to see what's under the hull! Regarding the tank, one thing came to my mind. How much space is now below the bottom of your tank and the bottom of the bilge to let water go through? In the original Design I think its ca 5cm (but you probably know better...) Am I wrong thinking in your redesign its considerably less? If so, I think you have to be very careful to avoid getting dirt and stuff in the bilge, because it might clog the drain below your tank and I suspect it will be very difficult to remove IT from there. I recently had some work carried out in the engine compartment and the varv guys dont care much, so much dirt, screws and stuff goes through the little whole in the engine compartment which feeds into the bilge... Often I find it then in the main bilge... Best, Falk

    • @aboatcalledwanda6925
      @aboatcalledwanda6925 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey yes you are correct there needs to be a channel under the tank to let water drain to the front. In the original design there was a 'V' notch cut under the tank on the bilge false floor. As you say all sorts of rubbish falls down there - and to be honest I think it was the concoction of salt water and some odd screws, nuts and bolts sitting in the bottom of the bilge that ceased galvanic corrosion on the stainless steel tank. I have created a 7 mm clearance where the tank sits above the false floor on feet. Plus there is clearance around the sides. I dont know if this will be sufficient or not - time will tell.

    What you are describing doing to the engine has been done by Hallberg-Rassy in the 352’s as well, but those were the generations a little older than yours. Our 1986 (#499) 352 has a separate, sound insulated compartment for the engine and another compartment below the lazarette, so the bulkhead extends from the cockpit down to the bottom of the engine compartment. The floor of the lazarette are wooden panel that can be removed with little effort. From there you can access the through-hulls, water distribution manifold and water heater. It works quite good, but it is hard to work on stuff (installing the water heater for example) while also being down there. Interesting why HR went away from that.

    • @aboatcalledwanda6925
      @aboatcalledwanda6925 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      hey that is amazing news to hear. I wonder why they stopped doing that as it would have made life so much easier.

    • @crusadeagainsttomatoes2518
      @crusadeagainsttomatoes2518 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@aboatcalledwanda6925 Yep! A small, more psychological aspect is the fact that all systems are not contained in a single compartment like in the newer HR's. But that is a small price to pay. I like your idea with making access from both the top and side to that area. One thing, you have to consider is the mounting of the water heater. We have a Isotemp Basic 40L, which is the same volume as what came with our boat. That water heater has to be securely fastened (approx. 40 kg of water bouncing around in rough seas is tough to deal with). But fastening is one thing, the other is installing it and from what I've seen, that looks very hard in the newer 352's, if you have to get it into the engine room, over the engine, and then held in place. Maybe glass in some blocks to screw into, when mounting the water heater, that would maybe make it a bit easier. I love what you're doing with your 352. It is going to be amazing!

    Don't be too hard on yourself - things rarely go as planned (or as quickly as one would hope). Forward visual progress is the key. One thought - why not make the bottom of the lazarette removable rather than going to the effort of installing a hatch?

    i am, most likely, missng some crucial detail apart from the one where you mention the keel, or keel stub, flexing upon sailing. aniway, at my own peril, i will say that you woulve achieved the same goal (wedging the tank and allowing for flex) with some patches of armaflex type sheet material. during the video i even spotted what i think it is a square of those interlocking foam pads (for home use kid´s playground areas) which woulve been perfectly suited also. with a filled tank, it wouldnt take long for it to find its place within the keel stub and self locking in there. you would only need to empty it and pry it out with a few rubber mallet hits to dislodge the point of contact.

    • @aboatcalledwanda6925
      @aboatcalledwanda6925 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey! that's a great idea I love it, yes I have a sheet for kneeling on it. I need to consider what will be sloshing around in there (salt water, fuel, oil possibly) and didn't want to have any expanding foam etc that could soak up all the mess. But the armaflex certainly has the right flexibility to it
