    The things I like about the DOF Reality platforms are that they're compact (easy to fit inside existing sim seats) and the low cost. I can see me getting my feet into motion sims with this bit of kit. Great review!

    Barry: Because you have all this experience using many different sim rigs, please consider making a video for us that helps us understand how we should adjust our rigs for proper ergonomics. What is the relationship of pedal height to seat height, how to adjust the height and distance of the wheel, pedal distance, monitor height, and distance, feet/shin angle in relation to the pedals, etc,.
    Nobody on YT has taken the time to explain a proper sim-rig setup. I understand everyone is different but there have to be some base-guidelines you follow when setting up these rigs that you review. Ergonomics can have a big impact on your racing, in the long run. Thanks for reading and considering this, Barry!

    Hi Barry, so glad to hear you will be reviewing their H6 (6DOF) motion simulator. I hope you will elaborate more on the advantages between your D-Box 4 actuators setup vs DOFReality's 6DOF setup (e.g. when would you recommend one to go with the D-Box instead and vice-versa). You are probably the only one qualified to make such a comparison between them.

      I switched from a 4250i dbox to a PT actuators 4dof+ traction loss, and have loved every second with it. A comparable d-box kit would be north of $30,000 for 6” of travel, where the PT kit cost right around $6000.

    Great video as always. I just assembled an H3 yesterday and I noticed you can smooth it out a lot by turning the boost down as well as the accel and decel settings. After messing around with it for a while I was able to get a pretty decent setting for my favorite cars in iRacing and the software will remember and automatically load them up with the car.
    The wheel platform is unfortunately not acceptable for a direct drive wheel. Especially for a taller driver like me, I have to use it on the highest setting and it’s barely high enough. Also, not having a tilt feature is annoying and I’ll need to add a bracket for my wheel base. I have some ideas to either replace or augment the vertical tubes with 2020 profile to stiffen it up because that’s wheee most of the flex is. It should fit on there easily since it’s the same size. The wheel plate really should be 2-3 mm thicker and maybe aluminum if weight is an issue. I’d love to see them improve the design or see an aftermarket company make upgraded parts because it’s by far the weakest part of the platform. Everything else is good and worked right away with no issues.
    For the price, it’s really an incredible device and with VR the feeling is fantastic once your dial in the settings. I’m happy with it but it really works best with lighter wheelbases. The pedal platform is fine, should work for most pedal sets. I’m using Fanatec CSL and it feels good. For competitive drivers, you may want to stick to your 8020 rig. This is fun but after a couple hours it gets tiring and I haven’t really seen lap times improving even with traction loss. It feels great though. D-Box or other actuators are still the best solution for motion but it’s just so much more expensive.
    One last thing that Barry mentioned but didn’t talk about much: the seat balance is very important. Disconnect the rods from both motors at the bottom and sit in your seat so it is balanced when in the driving position. Left and right isn’t as important but make sure front to back is as balanced as possible, I used a seat slider to speed up the process. You will have a less jerky ride with better response if it’s balanced.

    • @asimchohan
      @asimchohan 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have been using a P3 for many months with the Fanatec DD1 and it seems fine. I did put lower the steering wheel arms by cutting it and then making the wheel angled about 20 degrees to the wheel base. My compromise is the top of my Fanatec BMW wheel is about chin level but i use a 65" Oled TV so i can see more of the screen. Left/right balance was important as i use the gear&handbrake as unit was leaning to the heavier side. I ended up using a counterbalance on the other side and for the forward/back balance, i used a seat slider. With the DD1 and Fanatec inverted pedals, it was quite fortunate that i am balanced quite well at my ideal seating position.
      I wasn't offered any dampers when i got mine, just wondering if worth upgrading?

    • @MsJonaruto
      @MsJonaruto 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have the the P3 and have added 4545 profile to the wheel base bracket and it solid with no flex now. The whole rig move as one if you try to flex it.
      The balance is adjustable for me as i have a sliding car seat and the motion works fine for me with the aditional weight.
      I also added triple 30" monitors to it that moved with the rig and the motion was still fine, it actually made the whole motion feel smoother. I removed it as i use vr the most when sim racing now and the reflections from the monitors was putting the vr out of sync.

    For the price and the complete package this is the best choiche in my opinion for a entry level motion platform.. Next level racing is still 3k for the cheapest one and it is only a seat mover without the stand.. next year I'm going to buy this dof reality, if they come out with an even stronger wheel stand even better! But in my opinion with some little diy it can be stronger

    I have the P3 - for about a year now. There is one good thing about these platforms: outstanding service. If you have any issues the support works very well.
    But: as a motion platform I would not buy it again. The movements are very edgy and the construction is not nearly stable enough for a direct drive wheelbase (or actually ANY other wheelbase). It flexes so much, it is close to unusable.

    • @theVRpilot
      @theVRpilot 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    It looks very interesting, and you could probably stiffen the wheel base by adding a bar between your legs. I wonder how hard it is to mount a monitor to it as well though...

    • @RoarMcRipHelmet
      @RoarMcRipHelmet 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can mount a monitor to it, but be careful with the weight (I believe they mention 150kg max load?). You should probably go for the more heavy-duty P2 motors instead of the consumer-level H2 motors due to the strain from the extra mass. Also, you'll need to rebalance the universal joint in relation to the new center of mass so that the seat is mostly in balance when you're sitting in it and the monitor is mounted. Johnny Tech Gear mounted a triple monitor setup on his P3 rig, see the second half of this video: th-cam.com/video/gz8i9lYWZcY/w-d-xo.htmlm55s

    Using a dof H3 here with the add on dampers which make a lot of difference and take away the snatching of the motors.
    \i do find the adjustment on the dampers has almost be on max to make any difference though.
    The rear drift wheel assb has been been beefed up from other reviews on it from the past.
    Using any roll on simracing studio settings on car sim racing seems weird as having any roll in a car would be as driving a 2cv or Morris 1000.
    Surge ,acc,brake,traction loss,heave all work well on Dirt2 race room ,R Factor,accetto and Forza 4 in xbox mode with Fanatec is great!
    I bought a Sparco seat with runners and is a direct fit on the rig from Demon Tweeks.
    For the price it is great!

      Yes please! It would be great to hear Barry's opinion on SFX-100. I'm building one right now, and I'm already impressed by the sturdiness of the actuators. I wasn't sure what to expect exactly, but love for DIY motivated me to try. It's coming in together quickly. Biggest detractor is probably sourcing all the parts (easy but takes time to arrive from all the vendors) and 3D printing parts (can be time consuming, but instead can be ordered from people who printed dozens of them already, for not much more than cost of the materials). All in all I'm very excited, now waiting only for the motor couplings before I can try it out. Would love to hear Barry's opinion on how SFX-100 compares to all the high end hardware he has experience with 😊

      @@FireBullet what parts do you need 3d printed

    • @FireBullet
      @FireBullet 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@tehgusbus2716 there are 6 different parts that need to be 3D printed for SFX-100, 4 copies of each (one for each actuator) for a total print time of somewhere around 200 hours. Those parts are: slider, bump stop, fixed bearing mount, linear bearing mount, motor mount, foot. It comes to around 4 full filament spools. Print settings are very important, those parts need to be strong, so skimping on the settings to save filament won't do any good (and it's good to check the quality of those parts if ordering them to be printed somewhere). I got them from a fellow Sim racer offering his services (great quality, very fair price) on some of the Sim forums 😊 PM me if you'd like his contact info.

Have you thought why nobody is showing a decent video for rally games the answer is simple because it is awfull for rally games.

  • @CJ-ty8sv
    @CJ-ty8sv 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Other than QC / lower allowable tolerances (less backlash / slop in components), the change in motor / Gearbox combo should have had virtually no change in overall motion effects since the output rotational velocity after the gearbox is still the same.
    As stated, the M2 system you have (had) used a 3000RPM rated speed Motor and was coupled to a 50:1 GB, so the output speed after the GB is 60RPM (3000 / 50 = 60)
    For the H2, its a 1500 RPM rated speed Motor and is coupled to a 25:1 GB, so the output speed after the GB is also 60RPM (1500 / 25 = 60)
    If anything, I would suspect the H2 to possibly be more jerky because of the lower peak operation speed in theory means less time to reach max speed. Now granted, there is also the full load torque output capability of each motor but I suspect (based on DOF Reality's spec) that the H2 Motors are higher torque so naturally will be able to accelerate to max speed faster and thus all other things being equal, it would be more jerky. All in all though, any changes in perceived motion would have to have come from Software and/or geometry changes between the two setups and the addition of the dampers.
    Speaking of dampers, unless I missed it, it was never mentioned that the clamp collars ultimately were moved so that the damper body's were not at the lowest position when the system was at rest. When I saw the mention of them initially being setup like that ( section starting at 25:00 minute mark) about them being bottomed out, I instantly knew that that was gonna restrict the system to only being able to pitch back (any other motion would be locked out since the dampers would have been bottomed out already).

Doesnt look anything like in this video. My platform is pretty smooth, not jerky like in this video. The software has intelitune for each specific car for every game so you can tune or dial in the recommended parameter adjustments or adjust to your liking and save it for that car. Very useful. They've added sway and heave adjustments as well as surge for more fine tuning. No need for H3 (yaw) if you're not doing drifting or rally type racing.

      Okay, there are a few things i said in anger. in fact the reason it took so long was my own fault. DOF REALITY customer service is actually really really good! They replied promptly and tried everything in there power to get me up and running again....the delays were my own fault for not respond as promptly as they did. they should not be held accountable for my own mistake. and to this day they are still trying there best to see me satisfied.
      gremlins happen...and i'm not the most tech savvy person to fix these things so in all honesty i shouldn't have jumped down there throats the way i did.
      For what its worth .... before the problems started....it was the most fun I've had playing games and sims...and that is a fact.....for the price...it is a no brainier.
      i apologize.

    Great review Barry. Been looking at a new rig and this is a very intriguing option as it's basically the same price as the P1-X with the advantage of movement. Obviously rigidity isn't even comparable, but wondering if it's a trade-off worth trying out. Big question is do you think 2 dof is enough for racing? Or is 3 dof required for a realistic feeling behind the wheel?

    • @MsJonaruto
      @MsJonaruto 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have the P3 and have used it in 2 dof mode. The motion feels amazing even without the slip in the rear. But it does feel really good when the backend starts sliding when using 3 dof.

    • @RamjetX
      @RamjetX 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just about to ask that myself. Being an owner of an NLR V3... the main purchasing factor (apart from price) was noise. The motor and clunking around is a tough sell with a wife an 3 very young kids sleeping in the rooms either side. The NLR V3 was notorious for being quiet. And the form factor fit the existing rig that I had. Not that I'm looking to change, but the NLR V3 is incredibly quiet and wife & children approved.

    • @MrMarcusjarvey

      ^^ My thoughts exactly. Track driving at speed with rapid changes in weight distribution is pretty violent in my experience. I would have thought this would result in a more realistic simulator?
      Also the DOFreality seems to have a lot of movement vs some of the actuator systems that appear to barely move at all. Again something that one would think would add to realism?

    Hello Barry, new subscriber here!
    I found your channel searching for info about those dof platforms, great review.
    I wanted to ask advice, since I'm about to buy a new rig, and I'm quite in doubt, weather go static (with the benefits of robustness) or low-cost dynamic (H2 you just reviewd).
    I know they are very different products, but would you suggest the H2, considering using it for 3-4 hours a week in total? Also, do you think the price difference between h2 and p2 is justified? The rig structure should be the same, if I got it correctly.
    Hope you can find the time to help me clear my doubts, thank you

Have you thought why nobody is showing a decent video for rally games the answer is simple because it is awfull for rally games.
