- X-Men 97 is finally here! Jaby and Achara watch episodes 1 and 2 of the season premiere. The show begins where the 90s show left off with the X-Men reeling after the death of their beloved leader Professor X/ Charles Xavier. The first two episodes bring us Cyclops, Jean Grey, Rogue, Gambit, Beast, Bishop, Morph, Storm, Wolverine and Magneto!

Cyclops' optic blast really isn't a laser, it's a concussive blast. It doesn't burn or cut through objects, it pushes back with force, when he uses it on people it knocks them out or back. So he can use it to push against the ground as he's falling to slow himself down

If he turns it up it can absolutely cut things in half.
It can generate burns, the optic blast does creates friction.
This is how Ironman flies in the beginning of the MCU. So, I don’t see why Jaby had issue with Cyclops doing something similar. And some other character did something similar in comics, I think.

Exactly! I was a regular watcher specially cause of Achara, but Jaby got lost in some terrible takes that he got me absolutely bored! he missed the whole storm tearing sentinel's apart scene just talking about how "cheesy it was"
This is definitely not the first time his comments have left a bad stench in the air.
Storm striking the desert sands with lightning to make a glass tornado which ripped the sentinels apart was awesome! 😢

Perfectly executed way to show in an instant her life has changed. For the first time since she got her powers, she did not know the lightning was about to strike.

Honestly so far it's the dialogue that has me hooked. I love how much they let magneto and beast articulate, the fact that The dialogue was not dumbed down pleases me to no end.

In the comics, Roberto da costa is called sunspot, he’s a member of the new mutants, The X-Men and The Avengers
And one of the most underrated and under appreciated X-Men

Sunspot was in 2 movies...In Days of Future Past he was one of the future X-Men that got killed by the Future Sentinels.

the real Jean reappearing was hinted at in episode 1 if you really pay attention. When Jean is inside Gyrich's head, when she says "something's wrong, someone else..." and we see a pair of eyes that looks just like hers. Plus, the real Jean has a knack for constantly fainting in the series, so we know the one at the door is the true Jean lmao
Read a comic book, Nathan is their sons name and he becomes Cable.

I always wondered why Rogue don't use an inhibitor collar to be intimate with people and take it off after. The technology exists to make her living easier.
Probably because that would be her admitting there is something wrong with her- and there isn’t. The point of the X-Men has always been to prove that even if you’re different it’s not something to be ashamed of. And she’s not ashamed of who she is. Most of the mutants powers have downsides, but hers are just more evident. By using an inhibitor collar she’d prove the people who hate mutants right, basically admitting that she’s dangerous without one.
She does in the Mr. & Mrs. X comic books. Beast was able to build her a power-dampening necklace to allow her to married Gambit and enjoy their honeymoon together as husband and wife.

My 10 year old son said it wasn't Jean as soon as he saw her pregnant. He was obsessed with the Summers family tree for a while.

The Rogue and Magneto relationship has been in the comics, but it’s still creepy. As a Holocaust survivor, he’s old enough to be her father/grandfather. I do know this version never directly references which atrocity he survived, but it’s pretty firmly referenced in his statement this episode. Kind of worse when they reference whatever they had was a long time ago, and she would have been even younger.
The whole twist at the end is pretty clear what’s going on to long time XMEN fans. It’s wild they’re jumping into that, but not surprising given the name of the baby.
Didn't actually watch the episode but found out about that incredibly creepy & 🤢 🤮"thing" that's really just nasty it didn't need to be used at all it definitely could have stayed in the comics & left behind... stayed buried.

17:54 Yeah, Morph returned in season 2 of the original series. The character was brought back to life and brainwashed by Mr. Sinister. Fortunately, Morph overcame it, but has a lot of trauma from those events.

Isn't Cable from Deadpool 2 supposed to be Jean & Cyclops's kid?
In the comics, he's supposed to be the son of Cyclops and Jean's clone
After the Pheonix Saga Scott thought that Jean was dead and ending up marrying Madelyne Pryor the clone of Jean Grey by Mr Sinister. The ending of episode 2 I think is leading up to this. Scott goes back to Jean and leads up to a cross over event called Inferno and the changing of Madelyne to the Goblin Queen.
This episode also showed the X-ecutioner another Bady of the age causing Storm to loose her powers and eventually meeting Forge.
But Madelyne Pryor didn't has power but pregnant Jean does have powers

@@God-tempest Pryor does have powers. She doesn't have them early in the comics but develops them later on. She also gets a spark of the phoenix force which also gives her some of Jean's memories
Rogue and Magneto had a brief sort-of romance in the 1990s, which seemed kinda funky to some of us because at the time she was supposed to be between 19 and 21 at the time and he was born before World War II (although in the 1970s, there was a story that shifted his physical body back to his 30s despite his real age and that's why he's been so vital looking in the comics since then). In the parallel universe of AGE OF APOCALYPSE, Rogue and Magneto were married and had a baby named Charles (the explanation being that his magnetic field is able to protect him from her powers). Storm losing her powers happened in the comics in the 80s and lasted for years.
IIRC, when Rogue got together with Magneto, it was during a time when she had temporarily lost her powers.

Well the reason why I think Cyclops could slow his fall was because in the comics, his blasts or more like kinetic punches than heat blasts. Sometimes , its a mixture of both

Not sure if its been mentioned, lots of comments but Magneto can "touch" rogue because he makes a real thin shield of magnetic energy to protect his skin but thin enough for sensation. they had a kid together in the comics :O

So the baby that scott and jean have is supposed to be cable aka Nathan summers and the way the second episode is supposed to be jeans clone so the one who got to the door might be the real jean and the one scott got pregnant is the jean clone I can’t remember but im almost certain on my speculation
Yeah I think they're following a Madelyn Pryor storyline from the late 80s. Which is interesting because it could lead to X factor and the New Mutants/Generation X. I wonder though, if what happened to Storm they will go the Orphan Maker route like they did in the comics
@@savievere9759Probably not kid Storm, but I would like to see Forge and Gambit get involved in her journey back to the X-Men as the leader without her powers and eventually get them back. I’m sure the Shadow King will return to take the place of The Adversary in an adaptation of “Fall of The Mutants” before “Inferno”.
Here’s hoping for an adaptation of the “Outback Era” also.

Madelyne Pryor..this brings back so many middle school memories.when the x factor comic started it was so confusing.because the X-Men comics was on a different time line.but 4 US that read Chris Claremont in the early 80's this is all nostalgia..we know at least some of what's coming

@@ChamarM That would be Nate Grey, the Mr. Sinister creation, who used Scott and Jean's genetics to make him. He was Mutant Jesus for a time, and started a whole cult about 8 or so years ago during Age of X-Man's "Exalted" arc. Nathan Summers (Cable), is big beefy old, gun boy.
@GenerationWest Until a teenage version of him decided to travel back to the present to kill his older self in an attempt to reset the timeline to prevent further paradoxes. He also succeeds and takes his place in the timeline 😬.

Simple, when Marvel takes things seriously and does a good job. I really loved both chapters, especially the second, I think we will all agree that Magneto excelled. Without a doubt it is a series that I will continue to enjoy. 😎

Cyclops doesn't have a laser beam but a concussive beam. It is more like a punch when it hits something. Shooting at the ground is how he saved his brother and himself when they fell out of a plane as children.
I can't believe I forgot he could do that. When Cyclops uses his optic blast to cushion his landing or slow himself down, he and Havok do the same move in X-Men Evolution in the end of The Cauldron story.
17:57 Morph "died", came back, was fucked with by Mister Sinister so he had a good (his normal) personality and a bad (Sinister Agent) personality to infiltrate the X-Men. Morph eventually fought off and bested his "evil self", got treatment, and came back, had a breakdown facing some Sentinels (since that's what "killed" him), went off again to better himself, and eventually came back fully as a better and healthier goodie. To sum it up for Achara and those that don't remember/didn't know and don't want to go read a wiki. If I made any slights or left anything out that seems important fans, please feel free to put an addendum to it in the replies.
In the comics Cable is the child of Jean and Scott (Cyclops). Here he even gets the same first name (Nathan). So that's going be interesting later on 😄

That infamous line from X Men 1. About what happens to a Toad when its struck by lightning. It was supposed to be so much cooler. Toad was supposed to play a bigger role, and constantly make references. Do you know what happens to a "blank" when it's "blank" by "blank"?
But the test audiences found him too gross. Unfortunately, they kept that line in, which would have been a fist bump moment originally. But was really stupid otherwise.

Watched the 2 episodes this weekend. And I was so psyched for it. It was fantastic! So much nostalgia! Only gripe is that the intro music doesn't have that trademark sizzle sound when the lightning goes across the Xmen logo like it did in the OG.
That smile on Achara's face when they showed gambit was priceless

Sunspot is a lot more than just strong, while being able to deck a Hulk with a single blow, he can shoot beams strong and fast enough to catch Silver Surfer off guard and stun him, he can fly on parr to Captain Marvel, is vulnerable, sure, but tanks hits like a champ, can emit heat to melt things or absorb heat to cool things, does the same with light, has incredibly enhanced stats while powered up and still has almost Spider-sense level of agility in human form. Not to mention his mastermind level planning and business IQ, along with his extensive martial arts training. His power is also technically boundless as he's twice as strong on Asgard due to it being closer to more stars.
So we just dig a big hole, dump him there, close it up and its gg.

The look of Magneto is straight out of the comics, from when Charles was off-world getting laid and made Magneto headmaster of the school. The hair, the uniform, even {IIRC} the "cow-lick" on his forehead forming a "M".
The opening scene of him in chains at the U. N. is a pretty accurate reproduction of the comic cover for the double issue "The Trial of Magneto".

Cyclops’s blast is not a laser btw, it’s a concussive force. It cannot cut or burn. And to go deeper his eyes are actually portals to an energy dimension.

Cyclops doesn't shoot lasers, they are optic beams that shoot raw kinetic energy so do have force behind them and so he would totally be able to pull off that move because they have force + energy.

Cyclops shooting laser beams from his eyes is probably the biggest misconception in comics.
The visors that Hank made for Scott. They were to allow him to shoot once. Whether it's between density or making it less powerful to be able to get people out of the way!
