    I have a 2015 model S 85, this car has only done 41000 kms, I love it. I've done the CCS2 and MCU2 upgrades and also the rear drive coolant delete (I saw this on your channel). I just purchased a front bumper upgrade from TSportline, this makes it look like the face lift model. The new bumper has been checked and fitted to the car with the parking sensors fitted, taken off and sent to a body shop for paint work. It's going to look next gen awesome soon.

      Only 90 will be possible. 100 can only be fitted in cars who were 100 from the factory. I think I read that somewhere.

    Proud to have that many miles but a lot of things needed replacing.

      Not bad and only 1/3 the miles of the record S

    1ST COMMENT!
    (I've owned 6 cars in my life. 40 years driving. Combined all the mileage in those cars I'm still way short of 300,000 total driving).

      The last guy that owned this car before I bought it was a full time rideshare driver, and put on 400k mi in only 5 years!

    My 2015 70D still runs with original batteri and DU`s. Batteri only degraded 1 % per year in average. In my opinion the best Model S. I also have a 85 Model S both driven 360.000 km on each. But our 2014 has had a new DU due to ingress of coolant.

    It’s interesting to me that replacing the battery and the front drive motor was still economically viable for the previous owner. I wonder what would prevent the car from doing one million miles.
    Thanks for sharing.

      I guess I should've mentioned in the video, both of those repairs were done under warranty. It used to be that most versions of Model S and X up until 2017 had an 8 year, unlimited mileage powertrain warranty (which covers the battery and drive units). That said, a used front drive unit can be had pretty cheaply (~$2-3k). Battery packs are more expensive, but still attainable. Oftentimes drive units and batteries can be repaired rather than replaced (just not something they do at the Service Center, but something I do perform at my shop).

      @@AlexEVRepair Thanks for the clarification! I like the idea - which may be wrong - that as battery prices come down, and battery module level replacement becomes affordable, electric cars ‘should’ be able to do 500K+ miles. Especially for handy people like you, but I hope it would work out for a broader population.

      @@AlexEVRepairthank you for your unique contribution to the auto/diy self sufficient info.
      I'm thinking of getting a 2012 S. All the cars I see are listed around $12,000 - $15,000
      Should I get one now? Or just wait 5 years when I can shell out for a low mileage younger Tesla.

    The 100 kW battery has had more issues then 70 and 85 kW. Best so far for our family is our brand new Y Berlin made with BYD blade batteries charges like 60% in 15 minutes or 300 km and fully charged 400 km in 30 minutes.

    honestly, I think basic equipment is more than enough, to much expensive electrical stuff on new things that's gonna break sooner or later anyway. Like I don't mind electricals seats, but the back and forward adjusting should always be manual IMO, its much faster then electrical anyway, and seeing so many door handles fail on model S, I wish there was a mechanical handle instead, I mean they look cool though, but that's it

    • @AlexEVRepair

      That's why I'm glad that mine doesn't have air suspension, power liftgate, or especially a sunroof! The The old style door handles are definitely very failure prone, but they have all been replaced with the newer type that use hall effect sensors rather than microswitches, so much less likely to fail due to fatigue.

    Don't waste your time hipermiling the battery. Go ahead and slap a 100 in it. Altho I think I read somewhere that only 90 will be possible because 100 batteries can only be fitted in those cars that were 100 from the factory dew to additional weight support in the cars structure.

    • @AlexEVRepair
      @AlexEVRepair  หลายเดือนก่อน

      The 100 pack absolutely can be swapped in, but Tesla won't do that swap. They are a bit heavier, but nothing crazy. The actual weight difference between a 90 and 100 pack is only about 100lbs. The total weight increase going from a 70 (or 75) pack to a 100 is about 200lbs.

      It has SC01, Free Unlimited Supercharging. Transfer wasn't difficult at all, just a regular ownership transfer.

    I read / hear nothing but bad things about electric cars. It’s nice to hear a mechanic/owner frankly discuss ownership of an electric car. We live in the country and drive long distances on a regular basis. I have researched the charging stations in our area and it’s pretty grim. Guess I’ll stick to gas for now.

      Don't where you live, but after I started test driving all Tesla models last December, I WAS HOOKED! It took until Memorial Day weekend when I bought a lightly used -22 Model S and WOW!!

      The charging system situation gets better daily. Keep an eye on that, as it may no longer be as bad. Also, there are a lot of cars coming out (or already out) with 300+ mile ranges, and driven gently some if them can even get to 400 miles. Some have charging times of well under 30 minutes after 300+ miles. I didn't know about you, but my bladder range alone is way less than the 6 hours it would take to cover 300-350 miles. How long are your regular long distance drives?

    • @ipviri
      @ipviri หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Charge at home, daily, it'll be all you need usually - unless you're doing 70 miles a day

    • @jeffcranmer5374
      @jeffcranmer5374 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@ipviri even at 70 miles per day, that's just 7 hours on my 240V, 16A portable charger. A full level 2 home charger runs at 3x that rate, so 70 miles would recharge in less than 2½ hours. That's with a relatively inefficient Volvo C40 AWD. With a more efficient car, charging time for 70 miles at home would be likely less than 2 hours.
