I think you got a great deal! I woulda bought it for $5K! The battery degradation is about 25% which is not bad if that is the original battery. You still have 75% and that will probably last you a really long time. You might go 400K before you have to change the battery. I really love the styling of this car much better than the Model 3 or Y plus I'm loving the color scheme. I think you made an excellent buy!!!
Randy, the USA code says that circuits under continuous use load (aka more than 3 hours continuous use) should only use 80% of the Amps to avoid overheating. So a 50 Amp circuit must run at 40Amps continuous (Teslas automatically do this). If you plug it into a 240V/30A it will charge at 24A. And at a 120V/15A household outlet Teslas will automatically charge at 12A. So you do have a 50A outlet. FYI your charging rate will be volts times amps divided by 1,000 gives kiloWatts/hour.
I agree, Randy....The Cybertruck is grossly overpriced! Here in Houston, I saw a dual motor Cybertruck with a black wrap for $124,000 and a Cyberbeast for $140,000. I told you about the 2022 Model S Plaid for about $70,000 with over 14,000 miles. Some people look at the used Teslas more than the newer ones. The cost of insurance on them are ridiculously high!
$120k for the Cybertruck at auction, can you believe it? Brand new it's $100k for the AWD Foundation Series and $120k for Cyberbeast Foundation Series brand new, right? Can't speak for the insurance costs on Cybertruck or Model S Plaid, but we've got a Model 3 and Model Y in my household and they're spot on the state average for insurance
It's not overpriced because people are obviously willing to pay that price. I was at the Tesla service center about a month ago and there were maybe a dozen people waiting there to pick up new cars and 8 of them were there picking up Cybertruck. All 8 of those people were paying CASH. At the time there were news stories about the shortage of Cybertruck's but there were 30-40 of them on that lot that day. If it's like that in Kansas City what is it like in Los Angeles or Miami? Mainstream media is totally unreliable on certain subjects.
That's definitely a good deal on the Tesla ! It's in real good shape too ! Considering the mileage , it still looks practically brand new ! Have a great day
So after 250000 (plus) miles, the Tesla battery is still able to retain 75% of its original charging capacity! That is pretty impressive. I would however agree with Randy that for the transition to emission free cars to be really so, we need to move away from fossil fuel electrical power stations as well.
When it’s at 75% it is close to end of life. A friend of my family has about 400k miles on a much newer Tesla S and it retains 80% of the capacity. If it degrades below 70%, Tesla will replace it under warranty. For 5k he still got a really good deal, a gas car for 5k also comes with big risks.
Since the battery is significantly degraded, I would recommend not charging it past 75% from now on. Other than that, I think you got a great deal! You just can't afford any more battery loss. Limiting charging to 75% (60% would be better), and not allowing it to ever get under 10%, will definitely help prolong the life of the battery. Good luck!
Love your channel but coal only supplies around 17% of the power in the US grid now. Sure, 20 years ago it was around half, but not now. Child labour in Cobalt mining also affects your phone battery, making stainless steel, refining gas etc. Child labour more likely to be a problem with your phone. Most car companies don't want to have child labour in their supply chain. Also not most EVs sold worldwide now use phosphate batteries which have have no Cobalt in them.
What you're NOT saying is that 60% of electric power is supplied by fossil fuels. 20% coal 20% "renewable" combined wind solar nuclear. You're not saving anything. Part of your fossil includes petroleum.... You're only getting the pros so that's all you list.
You should do all the software updates to the car. You can go into service mode and check the battery health now. It will tell you if the battery was replaced, etc. great find, congrats!
Exactly. Is an ice car getting 75 percent of its performance at 265k ? My Q7 doesn't at 150k. Further, the motors are likely fine on that P85. Only referencing battery degradation.
Awesome deal . You got there. And there are teslas running around with 400.000 miles on original batteries. Dont Tesla have something in the app that tells you what maintenance has been done.
What a find, someone cared for that one ! I like these videos. EV’s are a brilliant proposition now - some may say there is a world of cost potential - I say true - but same if a combustion engine spins a shell and needs a motor and there’s a lot less to go wrong on an EV.
One of my cars is 20 years old. My other is 16. Not interested in any car but this is fascinating. All of the new features that all of us with old vehicles aren’t aware of. 😅. I feel old. With that said I ❤my old cars that are paid for. Grateful for them.
26:45 The R1 at the end of the string means its the 1st Remanufactured battery this car has seen, meaning it had a battery replaced before so you might be in luck on the price point!
42% of electricity in Oklahoma comes from wind. And that number will only increase over time. So don't keep hammering oin about how EVs are powered by coal. The other thing that is amazing about EV's is that the battery holds the equivalent energy of only 2-1/2 or 3 gallons of gas. And you can still drive 200+ miles on that.

I have always said I'd never have an electric car but at that price you got me thinking about it. My wife and I work 3 miles from our home so something like that would be perfect for us
You are totally wrong that they are not better for the environment. There is no exhaust. Yeah might take coal and others to charge but they do help the environment. Just the reduced maintenance and being charged every morning was enough for me. Not to mention the super fast acceleration. The constant updates and entertainment like Netflix and such are amazing. I never stick in traffic. See ya! 😀
Looks like a fantastic purchase, if I had the chance of buying similar I would grab it. I know it is subjective but the range would be useful to me for a few years. Needs a few checks for peace of mind but a nice performance car for my daily running around.
Do some more research, you can find it for not much over what you pay for 'your Yugo' depending on age, driving history -etc. The higher cost is due to the fact that the Tesla is considered a 'luxury car' and its unibody, so body repairs costs are high.
I actually think this is one of the nicest looking Tesla's i've seen, and I live in Nevada where there are thousands of these driving around. I love the lime green accents.

FYI,NEC 625.14 "requires electric vehicle supply equipment be considered a continuous load. This means that the EV charging load must be added at 125% of the full load charging capability of the electric vehicle supply equipment." If your charger is rated at 50A delivery, you would need a 65A breaker (they don't make a 62.5A breaker). You should only operate your EVSE at 40A max delivery if it’s on a 50A breaker.
That is exactly how EV adoption happens. Today's EVs are good enough to last that long, and once used ones are cheap enough for the average joe to buy, many will try and be pleasantly surprised.

That's a steal. I would like to get one for my daily 50 mile commute and save the gas cars for the weekend. there are free chargers at work. Buying one of these is a no brainer if you do a lot of commuting and can charge at home. Here's the thing though - which other ICE car can you buy at an auction with over 200k miles and jump in and drive it without having to do a full refresh like oil and filter change, radiator flush, transmission fluid change, brake fluid flush etc? He had a car dropped off in his driveway with over 200k miles and went speeding down the road at 65 mph - impressive.

Randy, the chargers in Chicago weren't down. Tesla chargers very rarely go down. The case in Chicago was owner ignorance on several different levels. Tesla batteries for US Tesla's are made by robots not little children. Electricity in the US in divided fairly evenly between coal, natural gas and nuclear power.
The actual lithium being mined for the batteries is most definitely being mined using child labor. Sure the batteries are made by machines, but the lithium being dug out of absolutely huge craters in the earth is being mined by child labor, and sometimes forced labor.
Unless you are talking of another country, in the United States according to www.eia.gov electric energy 60% is derived by fossil fuel (Coal, oil, and Natural gas), 19% is nuclear based, and 21% is renewable energy. The percentage of renewable energy increased in recent years however, but is only 1/5 of all electrica energy sources.
Now I’m looking at auction sites to buy one and bring to Africa (Nigeria), still trying to be the first person to have a Tesla here but someone beat me up to it, now I know I can lay my hands on one before Christmas.
Love the EV content! Can't believe they were asking above MSRP for a Cybertruck at auction when you can buy one brand new right now for $20k less than that. As for the coal, that's just nonsense, even in Oklahoma, under 6% of generation is coal. Compare that to 42% being wind. Most of the country is completely off coal and it's just the middle holding out with single digit percentages. I'm 100% renewable up here in New Hampshire, and it's pretty cheap too, under $10 for a full charge at home, under $30 at a Supercharger. Hard to pay less than $50 for a full tank of gas anywhere in my area
We switched to two EVs. Used to spend $400 in gas a month. Now we spend less than $100 a month and never need to go to the gas station and we only charge at home!
What did the 2 evs cost, way all that up your fuel in usa is cheaper than most yet you still winge over there, so I don't understand, ut as long as you are happy
@@peterkingsley2863The cost of the car is irrelevant because we would have spent roughly the same on a gas car. And that car probably wouldn't be nearly as delightful to drive, couldn't go 0-60 in ~4.5s, or drive itself on the highway. Did I mention we never have to stop for gas?
Agree the mileage is not the issue. Batteries normally last longer. This battery seems to be degraded beyond the normal pattern that you also describe. Maybe a previous owner treated it really badly (charge to 100% or discharged to near 0% and park for a long time).
How on earth did someone put so many miles.on it , if it was 1 of the very first at the most it's only 8 years old at the most. Would love to know actually how old the Tesla is to have 1,400,000. miles
When my two 2015 Model S were new they were rated at I think 256miles (or something like that). They would indicate about 247miles at 100% charge. At about 50K miles on the cars, both charge to between 233 and 242miles depending on the temperature. Both of them at around 20K miles were only charging to about 217 (average) at 100% charge. Then I found some TH-cams that talked about the BMS and how it calibrates. I followed the instructions on how to let the car "recalibrate" the BMS and both cars jumped up to the 233 to 242 and sometimes 247 miles at 100% charge. I have done the "recalibration" a total of two times per car and they are as stated above at 233-242miles on average at 100% charge. The Tesla miles range stated when new is under very strict conditions which I think (fact check me here as it has been a while) is at a maximum of 55MPH. So your original range to what you have now is not so bad. Look up the "recalibration" and give it a try. This is it in summary (but don't follow this summary this is not a "how to"): Drive car until you can put it in the garage or wherever you can leave it for several hours without using the app or anything to disturb the car at LESS THAN 3% charge and preferably at 1% charge. It will eventually go into "deep sleep". The BMS apparently then works to balance the cells from taking from the highest and charging to the lowest attempting to get all cells up at the same state of charge (this is a crazy simple overview, do real research). This can take many hours and so it is suggested to do this with ambient temperatures above 60F to avoid the battery discharging on its own too far. I left my cars for 6 hours each, each time. Next, charge the car to 100% without interruption. This is a summary of what the actual instructions are and about what I did and it worked each time as you can see by the above numbers at 50K miles each car.
Your reasoning for people not buying EVs is probably somewhat correct but the main reason I think is, household income. The average salary for men is 43k, women 37k. Translation, average people can't afford 50k cars, ICE nor EV. EVs are a bigger problem because they are a single purpose vehicle with all purpose prices. Average people get on average two weeks a year vacation. They don't want to spend any road trip time charging a car especially when charging is not cheap. By the way, what do you think about the APTERA EV.
My problem with Tesla is that I am not the biggest fan of the minimalist interior and the fact that there is no screen in front of the steering wheel, I do like the Model S and X, but personally would just rather buy other evs
drive train 7000$, battery 12,000$, car 5000$ = the car is actual worth $24,000 . so no u didn't get it for 5000$. it's only a matter of time when these two major components fail and you have to pay the price.

Good looking Tesla, I believe you got a hellva deal at 5k.
What does power source matter for transition?
@@Paul_Caruana doesnt mean u can run til battery health is almost zero. 70-80% is end of life for the battery. Battery failure is high risk.
Great buy Randy! Love the color. Thit was a steal for 5000.
Good luck!
Exactly, 60% is the best level for any battery , especially for this one. You will get hundreds if not more charging cycles more !!!
Haven’t finished watching but like~ GIVE IT TO YOUR SON! 😅 long time watcher btw, keep up the great work 🤍
YES! Just the thing, and then he can get the Plaid he wants. The Kid has the good sense to HATE gas cars and repairs. That was shown in some videos.
20% coal
20% "renewable" combined wind solar nuclear.
You're not saving anything. Part of your fossil includes petroleum....
You're only getting the pros so that's all you list.
This is certainly a great purchase! You should give it to Nick. High tech, low operational cost and one of the safest cars ever made!
You should do all the software updates to the car. You can go into service mode and check the battery health now. It will tell you if the battery was replaced, etc. great find, congrats!
And the Tessie app
I think the Tesla is a good deal, kinda cool to see a model S back on the channel, and I dig the color scheme in it.
25% degradation on 265K? Not bad. Definitely worth $5k.
Exactly. Is an ice car getting 75 percent of its performance at 265k ? My Q7 doesn't at 150k.
Further, the motors are likely fine on that P85. Only referencing battery degradation.
You’ll have to use the fart sounds when Mike is in the car lol
Or Nick, he'd immediately blame it on you Randy.
Awesome deal . You got there. And there are teslas running around with 400.000 miles on original batteries. Dont Tesla have something in the app that tells you what maintenance has been done.
Not for other owners though
CONGRATS BROTHER, DEF A NICE PICKUP!
16:30 that Camry was pissed🤣🤣🤣
What a find, someone cared for that one ! I like these videos. EV’s are a brilliant proposition now - some may say there is a world of cost potential - I say true - but same if a combustion engine spins a shell and needs a motor and there’s a lot less to go wrong on an EV.
You did well again Randy, Tesla-wise. My ONLY question is, .... how "old" is that battery??? Otherwise great purchase! 😊
The battery is original
Wow this was a cool video to come across, I had found this on a site and was watching to see what it sold for!! You're right it was up in PA
What a steal Randy! I'm jealous that you got such a great deal on it.
One of my cars is 20 years old. My other is 16. Not interested in any car but this is fascinating. All of the new features that all of us with old vehicles aren’t aware of. 😅. I feel old. With that said I ❤my old cars that are paid for. Grateful for them.
Dream deal sir very nice car you did it right 👍
26:45 The R1 at the end of the string means its the 1st Remanufactured battery this car has seen, meaning it had a battery replaced before so you might be in luck on the price point!
Great video Randy 💪👍👍😎
You got a great deal! $5,000 for a model S that will work for your daily commute seems like a good purchase.
And there is nothing more thrilling than seeing a Tesla being delivered on a semi truck powered by diesel fuel.
@@AutoAuctionRebuildssaw Tesla semi the other day in the wild in CA
Congrats, Randy!
Really good deal. 👍🍻
I just swapped out the S63 I purchased from you for a 2023 EQS merc that was a year old as it was 60% under MSRP
Much cooler than gas ⚡
A new EQS is coming soon too
Five grand is a real steal!. All works right?!. Just less range but very usable. Great deal!.
Randy I wish I could join your channel but I'm on a fixed income because of the fact that I'm 77 years old and a disabled veteran and I'm not able to hardly make ends meet as it is but I still will watch your videos and I think that you made a very good deal with that Tesla and I just love that Red and yes I think that it's a very good looking car and you just killed it I guess I wish it was mine period Charlie kretschmar Phoenix Arizona
He should come pick you up! 🙏
Good for you Randy. It was a great deal and you were lucky that there weren't any other problems. Great car for those of us who only do a few miles a day. I'm very jealous 🙂
😊When you came back with the key I yelled the handles hot Even though I knew you couldn't hear me😂😂😂
Someone likely wrapped them
Great video Randy. I agree I love my v8 tundra but i also love our model y performance. They both serve a different purpose.
Haven't we seen this movie before? 😂😂
But for real, it's a nice looking car for $5k and you could easily recoup your money on it just in fuel savings alone at that price point.
You kinda cut off that grey car at the 5 mile turnaround Randy, they gave you several fingers. Looks like a good buy on the Model Ass though!
i'm glad you upload what you want and didn't stop
Love it, 5 grand you can't go wrong. The only thing holding me back is it is the premium insurance charge!
Do some more research, you can find it for not much over what you pay for 'your Yugo' depending on age, driving history -etc. The higher cost is due to the fact that the Tesla is considered a 'luxury car' and its unibody, so body repairs costs are high.
Maybe $100/mo
I learn so much from this channel
again? love the tesla videos randy!
I actually think this is one of the nicest looking Tesla's i've seen, and I live in Nevada where there are thousands of these driving around. I love the lime green accents.
Looks nearly new like my buddy's Plaid

FYI,NEC 625.14 "requires electric vehicle supply equipment be considered a continuous load. This means that the EV charging load must be added at 125% of the full load charging capability of the electric vehicle supply equipment."
If your charger is rated at 50A delivery, you would need a 65A breaker (they don't make a 62.5A breaker).
You should only operate your EVSE at 40A max delivery if it’s on a 50A breaker.
I would love to see Randy test ride a Ford lightning
Rivians are even better
wow 🤯 what deal she’s a beauty I too like the contrasting lime green touches. Let’s see a 1/4 mile run and 0-60 run! 🙏
Good morning Randy. The Tesla Model S P85 is a good looking car. Let's see if it will run and drive.
On weather stripping (including the seal around roof glass) apply silicone spray. This will also prevent freezing when it's cold.
I've never owned EV. For 5k I wouldn't mind what a great deal. How do you find great deals?
That is exactly how EV adoption happens. Today's EVs are good enough to last that long, and once used ones are cheap enough for the average joe to buy, many will try and be pleasantly surprised.
Love the Tesla. Especially since it has the opening sunroof.
I actually like the colour of the new Tesla you have right there randy looks in prity good condition if you ask me for sure man and I'm Gona say on just what I saw on the video randy that it's had a new battery man that sticker looks far to new randy the one beneath the car fella I'd deffo say it's had one, put it up on the ramp randy and take a good look at the underneath of it then properly, see you in the next one man and thanks again for the video feller!..👌✨👌✨👍👍👍
Agreed, show us the underneath and make sure to do the air filter!
Enjoy your videos. You've got a great deal
My 2019 cx-5 is paid off. For $5000 I'll buy one all day long. Park the Mazda for road trips
Your 2013 Tesla that you had was the 1st of your videos that I watched... just wanting to know more about Tesla vehicles. I have been following your channel ever since. Love your channel save for some of the junk you waste time on at COPART, etc. Like many, I'm on the fence about EVs, but I am intrigued and bracing for the inevitable. It looks like you scored quite a deal on this one.
With this dip in used EV prices, it's the perfect time to jump in. Feel free to let me know if you have any questions.
My self personally I'm like 24 miles round trip from work lol
That's a steal. I would like to get one for my daily 50 mile commute and save the gas cars for the weekend. there are free chargers at work. Buying one of these is a no brainer if you do a lot of commuting and can charge at home. Here's the thing though - which other ICE car can you buy at an auction with over 200k miles and jump in and drive it without having to do a full refresh like oil and filter change, radiator flush, transmission fluid change, brake fluid flush etc? He had a car dropped off in his driveway with over 200k miles and went speeding down the road at 65 mph - impressive.
Do they have re-manufactured batteries for the Tesla, and could you install one yourself?
Yes, and yes.

An awesome steal of a deal. Always love red cars especially those two beauties you got in the shop. All vehicles have there fair share of mechanical failures, some more then others unfortunately but that 5G Tesla's a winner 🏆
The materials for the batteries like cobalt are mined by child labor
Hey OP, beat me to the Comment, well done. Add to the electricity source, solar and hydroelectric.
The actual lithium being mined for the batteries is most definitely being mined using child labor. Sure the batteries are made by machines, but the lithium being dug out of absolutely huge craters in the earth is being mined by child labor, and sometimes forced labor.
The lithium is mined by children in Africa that’s what he said.
You're right Randy; PPF is absolutely a gimmick. Love these videos!
That 57 Chevy is one sweet looking car.
They're gross polluters with no cats though, 150x the pollution of modern cars.
Now I’m looking at auction sites to buy one and bring to Africa (Nigeria), still trying to be the first person to have a Tesla here but someone beat me up to it, now I know I can lay my hands on one before Christmas.
Hwy miles Randy 5 Thousand is a steal for a working Tesla, especially this model even though it's a 2013
Love the EV content!
Hello There My Good Little Bro Randy Lee Shear Of Auto Action Rebuilds
What an awesome deal! Here in the Netherlands you would pay at least 15k for this car
Starting every day with a full "tank" and never having to go to a gas station again is game-changing!
OUTSTANDING PURCHASE!!!👍👍
Is that $5000 out the door Randy, or closer to $6000 with all the fees added on?
What do you think? Ofcourse it's way more than 5000 out the door.
Copart has a bunch of shady junk fees
I think it was one of the better deals that I've seen you make on the channel and I definitely would have done the same. 👍
265,000 miles thats nothing a 2018 model S with over 430,000 the battery was tested twice & still at 78% in the UK. The car is a Taxi & still in use .
Agree the mileage is not the issue. Batteries normally last longer. This battery seems to be degraded beyond the normal pattern that you also describe. Maybe a previous owner treated it really badly (charge to 100% or discharged to near 0% and park for a long time).
One guy went to 1,400,000 miles
Randy giving the Toyota the business while still making the video 😂😂😂😂. Good shit man 😅
I love your videos and yes, I want to see another Tesla
1000th person to like this video!!!!!
Sounds like a good deal not many good used cars under 5 k . They are out there just not like they used to be
Your reasoning for people not buying EVs is probably somewhat correct but the main reason I think is, household income.
Welcome to Arizona.... or our heat at least. We're used to burning our hands off on door handles lol. Nice car!
My problem with Tesla is that I am not the biggest fan of the minimalist interior and the fact that there is no screen in front of the steering wheel, I do like the Model S and X, but personally would just rather buy other evs
LOL, he showed the screen in front of the wheel multiple times.
