While I would prefer it if it wasn't, especially with someone that has done a role as much as Caron has, it is just how it is. Good on him for being a good sport about it though, unlike some other actors out there that seem to stay mad for over a decade.
They actually used TC's voice for young Kratos, when they're looking at the mirage of him killing Zeus in Helheim. So, the idea of TC returning is actually pretty likely in my opinion.

It's not just the voice, even the script was way different back then, young Kratos nearly never talks and opens his mouth only to throw huge bombs and powerful lines, every time he talks it's mega epic... damn I can recall every line from him, little talk but priceless lines, that + Carson voice and acting makes me prefer him to chris with all my respect to him

He is a baritone with a very distinctive texture to his voice, and the unique booming quality further shines as he raises it. He could have owned the role as well as Christopher Judge did, but simply didn't have the preferred physical appearance of the director.
This. Exaclty my thinking since gow 2018 day one, but I think it's more about Judge being more famous. Judge brought a hype that TC couldn't, and hype makes more money. His physical structure doesn't matter for motion capture, at all. And if it really does, it must've been quite difficult to find some giant wolves, 3 meters tall guys to play Tyr or Thor, or more than a kilometer for the Ragnarok. And what about the squirrel, dragons... They needed them for motion capture too ? I call this bullshit. Money reasons.
TC Carson is a good voice for one liners and a game, Gudge (the new guy) is perfect because he has a voice for story telling and and has a calmness to it so it's not always intense.
It's sad the fact that not many people do understand the amount of effort and hardworking in a certain amount of time the Gaming studios and actors have to go through. It really is a brilliant job executed! 🙌🏻🙏🏻 Thanks Jon!

Here's the thing: Since they had Judge redo TC's lines in the flashback, canonically speaking, Kratos's voice hasn't changed and he hasn't gotten older. We like to differentiate between Judge's version and TC's version by calling Kratos's different versions young and old, but in the GoW universe, Kratos is an immortal who doesn't age and his voice doesn't change.

I was pretty mad When TC Carson was replaced after this game, and while he and his amazing voice are the reason Kratos is what he is, Christopher Judge did an amazing job taking over. His voice actually sounds like an older wiser Kratos. I still play the original trilogy to this day, with the original game from 2005 being my favorite. If you haven't played it in a long time, do yourself a favor and play it again.
It would be amazing if they could do a dream sequence or something else where Kratos could interact with his younger self. They could bring TC on for a cameo or something. It could be the manifestation of some sort of internal strife within Kratos.

Ngl, I'm a little salty that in the flashback/illusion of Young Kratos beating up Zeus in GOW 2018, they didn't just use Carson's voice. It would have felt nostalgic in the best way, and realy tied the two parts of the franchise together. It's also completely believable that Kratos's voice just aged from Carson into Judge's. The way they just casually acted like Kratos has *always* sounded like Judge feels a tad disrespectful to the man TC, who was an integral part of this series for *a majority* of it's installments... I assume it's for two reasons. They didn't want to pay him for using his voice. And second, the game was super top secret stuff, using him in any way would've brought a bunch of rumours up and ruined the reveal. Paying him would've also required him having knowledge of the game too

I'm ashamed to say that until this year, I didn't realize that TC Carson was Kratos for the first few games. I grew up watching Living Single and wondered if he did anything big since then, and apparently he did, just without his face involved.
Actually there was a scene in the 2018 bit while Kratos and Atreus was in Helheim and saw their past lives relived and displayed. There was a scene where young Kratos was brutally beating his father Zues up while Atreus and Kratos watched and during that scene, the voice of Kratos wasn't that of Christopher Judge, it sounded close to TC Carson's. Or perhaps it was Christopher Judge's but with modern tech, it has been manipulated well enough to sound like TC Carson's version of young Kratos, which is a job well-done by the team if it is so.
Much respect to his performance, especially when it's in front of a blank background green screen. It looks more challenging channeling your best performances while looking at all the goofy technical stuff in front of you.

I love TC and the original voice of Kratos. But our voices do evolve, deepen and become more gravelly as we age. Christopher Judge did absolutely fantastic in GOW 2018. We are lucky to always get such top notch voice acting in GOW games.

The most ironic thing is I can 100% see carson making an older kratos voice. He actually has a pretty low pitched voice compared to his young kratos performance.
Man I mis TC voicing Kratos even though Chris does a great Job as older Kratos. Can't believe the studio did him dirty and didn't even mentioin to him that they were going a different direction with the voice. They could've at least used TC for the flash back scene in Hellheim.

Yes this was not intended to have kratos in at all. They got cold feet amd made the character named him. Thats why its so contradictory in this new series, especially ragnarok

TC said developers of GOW weren’t professional enough to call him and say they wanted to go in another direction and did not thank him for his work. Pathetic, this man is the precursor to GOW success
I love TC and the original voice of Kratos. But our voices do evolve, deepen and become more gravelly as we age. Christopher Judge did absolutely fantastic in GOW 2018. We are lucky to always get such top notch voice acting in GOW games.
So as you grow old some other person takes your soul? TC can do that too. Sony never gave him a chance. I'll forever be mad at Santa Monica and Sony for that. 😠

I love santa monica but they did him dirty. If u watch dj vlads interview with TC he Said when they replaced him as kratos they left him on the dark. No phone call no nothing. He voiced kratos for a long time they could at least tell him he deseverd that much

I know they are essentially two different characters, one a younger version filled with rage and anger and one an older more subdued and calm version, but i'll always prefer T.C as Kratos man, love his energy and passion. He really made Kratos a badass. Judge is good but yea T.C all day everyday.

I wonder if Judge’s physicality was a key factor in the casting. Would help keep the actor for Atreus more naturally humbled by someone so much bigger, not merely taller/older.
