- Kris Kristofferson, the gravel-voiced singer-songwriter who penned some of country music’s most beloved songs and whose acting career spanned five decades, died at the age of 88. His family announced that he passed peacefully surrounded by loved ones.
Born on June 22, 1936, in Brownsville, Texas, Kristofferson led an extraordinary life marked by immense artistic achievement, but also a reputation for deep humility. He earned a Rhodes scholarship to Oxford University and later served as a captain in the U.S. Army before making his way into the heart of Nashville’s music scene in the late 1960s. There, Kristofferson quickly earned a reputation as a soulful, genre-defining lyricist.
He will be forever remembered for writing iconic songs such as "Me and Bobby McGee," "Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down," "Help Me Make It Through the Night," and "For the Good Times." These anthems became hits for himself and for other major artists such as Janis Joplin and Johnny Cash.
As an actor, Kristofferson appeared in numerous films, including A Star Is Born (1976), Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid (1973), and Blade (1998), among many others. His rugged, magnetic presence on screen, combined with his reflective, poetic lyrics, cemented his place as a unique and irreplaceable figure in American entertainment.
In addition to his artistic contributions, Kristofferson was a devoted advocate for human rights, using his voice and influence to fight for social and political causes throughout his life.
Kris Kristofferson is survived by his wife, Lisa Meyers, and their children. He leaves behind an indelible legacy that has shaped the country music landscape, as well as the lives of millions of fans who found comfort and connection in his music.

Kris Kristopherson is one of the greatest song writers in history. And a great actor.
I took my 15 yo son to see Kris when he played in Adelaide a few years plus ago. I wanted him to experience someone special and a force for many great 60s stars covering his songs. My son rang to inform me he died and is grateful to have sat just feet from him while he played all his songs.
Thanks for his story he was amazing in his life and the great music.
I have always loved him. So many wonderful memories of his movies and music. Thank you Kris
Glad to know that you're a fan of Kris. In your opinion, what is his finest song?
Bless your heart and soul Kris.
Thank you for being writing a song I named my oldest daughter after.
I watched HEAVEN'S GATE again tonight because I loved it the most of all your movies.
As James you were definitely playing out one of your true selves on film.
Vaya con Dios Amigo.
Catch that Comet for a ride home!
I'm sure Willie is missing you and all the Highwaymen tonight!
I know I certainly am.
But like they lyrics say, "I'll be coming back again and again and again..."
I'm sure you will.
Til we meet again!

RIP Kris. Thank you for sharing your music with us. You are always loved and will be missed.❤
OK, so wat's the confession? Do you have to make things up to get an audience? I resent this frequent strategy!! False advertising!!
i watched 20 secs and knew no "confession" was forthcoming...thanks for confirming my intuition!
it was the BOT voice that turned me off
Thanks,I hate that crap too.

My parents played his music throughout my entire childhood and beyond. They LOVED him and saw him perform many times. His passing has made me really sad and miss my parents too.
I'm so sad about his passing.he was a great song writter and he will be missed Rest in peace your home with the Lord and the angels my thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends rip 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
"A Star Is Born" was one of my favorite movies, because of the obvious chemistry between Kristofferson and Streisand. As atrocious as Ms. Streisand's politics are, I still watched one of her recent concerts, during which an 80-year-old Kristofferson joined her on stage. All I could think was how quickly time has passed by.
I’d give all my tomorrows for a single yesterday….what a line😢❤
Rest in Paradise 🪬💜🕊️🕊️🕊️
May Kris find peace. Which of his songs appealed to you the most?
Kris didn't invent stories. He told the truth. A true giant. When I heard Sunday Morning for the first time, I knew we had been to the same places. The Pilgrim was another one that hit me right in the breadbasket.
Despite his huge presence, he was a true gentleman! 👍🎶🎶
...and as usual, the church had to mingle and wanted him to change his lyrics.

And his contribution to culture ……. Truer words. Thanks Chris. Stay close to the music and stay true to oneself.
Thank you too for your beautiful message for Kris. In your opinion, what is his finest song?
@@FactsVerse I’ve always have trouble with the term what’s ‘best’. I always considered creating more as a process growing from one part to the next. Just like every note reflects on the next. So does each song. His best was always his next.
Willie is the last one now…RIP Kris❤
Sad but true. We'll miss Kris. Which of his songs appealed to you the most?
I hate HATE twangy country music but I loved Me and Bobby McGee and loved his acting.

Named my oldest daughter Bobbie after Bobby Mcgee!
Great lyrics that still move me today.

You have obviously never listened to Emmylou Harris with such haunting melodies that really raise the hairs on the back of your neck. Willie Nelson once said most people love Emmylou those that don’t haven’t met her yet. Alan Jackson, George Jones, Alison Kraus, too many to list . They are not all “twangy.” Try and listen to the lyrics, not just the noise. Trouble today is people don’t have the ability to listen they just react to noise.
A poet .
The Rubber Duck's on the Convoy to be with Jesus! 🙏🙏 Keep singing up there with Johnny and Waylon.
Loved him!
We love Kris too! Which of his songs appealed to you the most?
The beer he had for breakfast wasn't bad, so he had one more for dessert. Rest in peace, Kris Kristofferson.
RIP! LEGEND!
Kris Kristofferson - a huge talent... so real, not a phony like so many people in Hollywood and show biz. 😢 sad he’s departed this realm … kick it up wherever you are 🙏🏻💙
God Bless ❤❤❤❤

R.I.P. to Kris Kristofferson.
There's a random photo of Billy Joe Shaver at 3.35. Kris was staying at a London hotel in the 70s where my late friend Bob was concierge. They got talking, and Kris said Bob should check this new singer out. Billy Joe Shaver. Kris had recognised the talent, and wholly financed Billy's first album to try to kickstart his career. (Kris's song The Fighter is about Billy). He was as talented as any of the outlaws, and walked among them, but unfortunately never reached their levels of fame or success. Kris was a good man.
RIP Sir 😢

Fulgte kris kristoffersen og Gordon Ligtfoot i 40 år og nu er de begge taget op og lære de kære engle og dem i underverden..to Beat the Devel hvordan god musik skal lyde..
Mange tak for alle de gode sange..❤
I was a young 11 year old in Ewing NJ when my neighbor -gym teacher pulled out an album and said this is my favorite singer -Kris Kristofferson -I was intrigued
Here's a couple of fun facts:
In Taxi Driver, featuring a man who suffers from insomnia, Cybil Shepard quotes lyrics Kris actually wrote ending with "(he's) a walking contradiction".
Kris played Billy the Kid once who was "fond of whistling sad ballads".
Decades later, Kris played WHISTLER in a film about a day-walking vampire.
Knock Knock Knocking on Heaven's door...
What was the confession?
We will never know
Maybe his alcohol addiction?
Bobby Mcgee remark?

What was the confession before he died? Did I miss something?
The caption is to attract views, good video nevertheless
I believe it was the remark about Bobby Mcgee …
@@webwhisper2701 I knew about how the song title Bobby Mcgee came to be so no confession there. I think it's where he says his mother was horrified because he quit the Military to follow his dream of writing and singing music . She said he was over qualified to work as a janitor in Nashville after college because he was a Rhodes Scholar and in reality he was but one can't go wrong when they follow their heart and thank God.... Kris did. Rest easy Kris and thank you for the music. movies and every other way you touched our hearts. When we see a rainbow we'll think of you...just like your family. 🕯🕊

He & Streisand had a brief affair in the early 70s (before "A Star is Born"), and remained friends until he died. He had nothing but good things to say about her.

It's a shame to mar such an otherwise lovely video by giving it a misleading title & including a photo that is not Kris (at 03:34).
I was fortunate to meet him in the late 90's. He was kind & very down to earth. I hope he's already well & happy on the other side.🩵✨️🩵
