    Around 1984, Kris and his band were doing a bunch of USO shows. They flew to our ship, in the middle of the Indian Ocean, via helicopter from the carrier. Very down to earth and nice guy. He, and his band were invited to have lunch with the officers in their private mess. They declined and sat with the rest of the crew on the mess deck. Love this guy. He's the real deal!

      I love this man. I think the Holy Spirit prompted him, and with risk, lotsa loss, he had the courage to do what God’s plan for his life. He was like most great souls, he was a sinner and a saint. He really was a lover, not an evil man. I believe Kris loved zJesus . Sold out for Jes. I am guessing so I have to do my research. Just a gut feelin’. I hope I am not disappointed.🧔‍♀️🫶😇🐕🥰. I will forever more pray for him and ask him to pray for me, the worst of all sinners. Because, I know Jesus is the way and the truth and the life, yet I am that prodigal son 😢. I am Canadian but this man intrigues me. I listened to his hits album laying in the sun in my backyard after high school. And I feel I am a Republican even though I am Canadian. I really love the Govenor(sp?) of Florida, Ron DeSantis. Anyway, I feel I mueh this man, Kris 😳🫶🥸🤔🫡🤗🧐🥰. Can’t wait. I guess The aHoly Spirit move and molded me to search the life of Kris on Palm Sunday. Holy Spirit come. I really need you.

    Born in Brownsville Texas, and as he would say raised by a Mexican Nanny ( Juanita ) he called Mama. His father was always gone and his real mother was busy doing other things so they hired a Mexican girl only 14 years old at the time to babysit. She was even invited out to California to take care of Kris and his siblings when his father was transferred there. Kris stayed in touch with her until she died in 2018 at 93 years old.

      Heavens Gate is also a great movie, it suffered the same fate as so many other movies like Blade Runner and The Thing, once a big name critic bashes a movie all the smaller critics try to out bash each other reviewing the movie as a way of sucking up to the big name critic that starts the snowball rolling down the hill in the first place.
      After all, Rolling Stone magazine bashed every single Led Zeppelin album one at a time as they came out, I learned a long time ago to ignore critics, they're always trying to convince the general public that they know so much more than the general public does.

    Fyi I watched the 3.5 hr 2013 director's cut of heaven's gate last week and I think it is a misunderstood masterpiece. Kristofferson is excellent in it. He carries the whole film. I recommend that people save it to watch during a rainy Sunday afternoon. It's beautiful and moving and also extremely violent. It's based on a series of true events-a little known part of American history-the Johnson County war.

    • @TRI9POD
      @TRI9POD 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I completely agree with you. It was filmed here in NW Montana and my uncle's transportation company was contracted to charter all of the cast and crew from hotel to different locations for filming. At twelve years of age, I was lucky enough to watch a large portion of Kris's scenes and actually meet him. I still remember what a kind and generous man he was to give the time of day to a little twerp like me. I watched the final product later in life and was thoroughly impressed; I thought it was an excellent movie and Kristofferson's performance was the highlight.

      Yes, though he originally loved what Joplin did with the song, I gathered from that line, that one too many people had told him it sounded "too country" when he did it. And that was his way of telling them to bug off. It was his song and he was going to do it the way he thought it should be, when he wrote it. And for those of us who first heard Roger Miller's version, we knew what Kris meant! 😊

      I was 15 when it came out and all I knew about it for all these years is that it was supposed to be this huge flop that caused the bankruptcy of a movie studio, last year I was up late one night and it came on a dish movie channel, I figured "What the heck, I'll give it a try, critics don't always know what they're talking about, I mean look at Blade Runner, I've never understood why that was a flop I've always thought it was fantastic".
      So I sat up and watched it and the next time it was on I recorded it on the DVR so I'd be able to watch it any time I want, more proof that critics don't know shit.

    I liked Kris in a quirky, or so I believed at the time, film titled ‘the sailor who fell from grace from the sea’ in which he starred with Sarah Miles. Saw it at the Times theater in Milwaukee ( where I also saw ‘In the Shadow of the Moon’ years later) a few blocks from where I was living with my ex wife. She couldn’t join me that evening but we quite often walked over to the ‘Times’ for a movie date.
