The popper is so versatile. Three colors and you can fish them year round. Get a darker color or black, white or shad type pattern, and then a bluegill color and you’re set. The best ones float head up. Gives the bass a better chance to get hooked. Don’t use straight flouro. Mono or braid is best.
Nothing better then a new video from you🎉 I made 2 new videos lately because fishing season just started and I am so hyped for all the tournaments, kayak fishing, and more! I just bought my first fishing kayak as well and bought my first car as soon as I turned 16!!
I first heard about the chug bug from Nathan Quince. And speaking of Seth, he would be pleased to know I’ve been using a Daiwa Tatula (med/heavy) for my topwater.
Caught another 3 lb largemouth on the chug bug this morning. And although they might miss it-I cannot remember losing one once hooked (even though I’ve experienced some bent hooks that needed repairs).🙂
I had a few blow ups yesterday morning. A few last week also. I knew it was any day they would start reacting better. But this morning was one of those days where each cast was blown up on like the popper just slapped their momma. Popper flying at each strike and if they weren’t hooked the first time it was a battle for the biggest girls wins. This went on for over an hour all alone in slick calm water. Smallest was a 3 and the average was 4. Lost count at 30 or so. So you know they put on a aerial show the whole way back to the boat hooking em at the end of a long cast. Epic day.
Hardly any stretch in floro depending on which floro you go with and it’s a short enough leader that won’t cause the lure to sink. He does mention mono is just fine as well.
Try using a snap like the egg snap from decoy or split ring like the hyper wire from owner. You can tie your favorite knot and not have to use the loop knot. Just another alternative
Zmans Poppin frogz have become my favorite top water. It floats because of elaztech. Hook ups are great because texas rigged. Plus supper weedles pull over through almost any vegitation. & U can burn it across surface like a horny toad because of kicker legs. Not good for walking though. Mud-minno brown back /white belly. Have it tied on every trip from spring through fall
Even twenty foot of fluorocarbon will just about sink a trout fly. It's not going to do much to a popper. Also six or seven foot of fluorocarbon or nylon provides a little stretch and a lot of shock absorption and drastically reduces the risk of bent hooks , breakages and hooks pulling out compared to mostly braid which has almost no stretch.
Some people find heavier braid much less likely to dig in and cause break offs and backlashes on the cast with baitcasters. Even 30 braid still casts very easy so why not have the safety margin.
"Its my confident bait that I'm tying on year round and its the first thing that I'm tying on" Either, that's not Carl Jocumsen or he's lying for the sake of an advertisement....

When the bass are chasing shad, I've had great success with the Storm Chug Bug.
One of Seth Feider's favorite topwater baits to this day. Those older baits loose the spotlight but keep catching as good as they ever did.

Good video carl, how bout buzzbaits, do you use them, care to do a video on them ?
Why would you use a florocabon leader with a topwater?
Stiffer than mono. And I can say the cover pop sits very nose up so maybe he's countering that

Hula poppers and jitterbugs..... Fun fishing.
Why do all the WiredToFish popper videos show the Arashi Cover Pop? Trying to see if there’s a sponsor connection or something.

Why was he shaking the tree?
Pop it!
Seems weird to use 30 or 50 lb braid on open water.

How does Carl finish his FG knot after his initial wraps?
The Alberto knot works great on braid to nylon or flour. How toos are all over the web.
