    When the rod is in you're hand you can feel what's happening so the visual is not so important but seeing the lure is all the observer has so getting the landing and popping the way you did was sincerely appreciated. You can't edit what you don't shoot so props on the framing skills. It's so cool that you're exploring other ways to use the skills you have and build new ones... popper on the flats, sick man. Just down right sick fun. Cheers

    If I could give two tips on small surface poopers , one would be when the lure hits the water let it sit ten second then twitch before pooping , second would be to cast parallel to the shore . Small bait fish hug the shore and follow its edge fish sit on the drop and wait for them to swim by . ✌🏻Briggsy always a good time fishin.

    Love flats fishing. Nice work. I've got a similar rod to yours but it's an older Daiwa Air Edge 762HS 7’6” (7-28 gram lures) which is a 6-10 kilo rod. I use it with a Daiwa Freams 4000 with Fins 15lb braid. It can handle a lot more than what some might think. Landed a Galapagos shark on Lord Howe Island which was around 1.8 metres long. They have some serious power and the rod was up to it.

    Nice. I would ask if you could wade and get to a shallow spot on the flood to fan cast and cover the most ground. Tiderunning is a thing on flats, and some shockingly big fish run in water only enough to cover their backs. One video of a flat atoll in the Seychelles is etched into my mind. Two guys get dropped off by boat at low water, on a high but wet spot, no island, and fly rod MASSIVE GTs in 3-4' of water on the flood. Pushing 100Lbs. Sick.

    Are poppers more effective in places with warmer water or when there is a bust up? I tried in Sydney harbour a few times, but no fish seems to be interested.

    • @Briggsy
      @Briggsy  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Poppers are a big ask for a lot of fish. But in some instances more effective than a stickbait because of the noise and commotion they make. I’d think of it like this, if you know there’s a big angry fish that wants to eat, throw a popper, if you’re fishing a zone that gets a lot of pressure from other fisherman you prolly want to go right down the other end of the lure spectrum and throw a plastic with lighter leader than usual to get the bite. That said, early morning or late arvo even in a zone with high fishing pressure, a big fish can cruise by and not even look at your little plastic but might hit a popper, so keep it in the tackle box but maybe focus on the low light times and switch to other stuff when the sun’s shining 🤙

    • @devoker666
      @devoker666 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Briggsy cheers mate. Always carry one with me. And they are so much fun to retrieve even though I don't get any bites. I reckon the water in Sydney is not warm enough yet. Noone was getting any hits in the harbour this morning although there were more than 10 people casting lures side by side. I wish the fish weren't so cold blooded :)

    Hey man. I hooked a big one while shore jigging. İt ran to the bottom and ı could pull it up while later. You told me to ease on drag as it gets closer to rocks but ı didnt fearing Fish could find a nest in rocks. Rather ı kept pullin it up to shallows. Cos it was pulling to bottom so strong. İt was bigger than the reel-rod could handle. So mono got cut soon. Was it a mistake not to ease on drag? Was it as risky as fish gets stuck in rocks? It was the biggest ı hooked. So depressed here.
