In light of the glowing appraisal of these (admittedly pretty excellent-sounding) amplifiers in this video, I think it is important to note that Lee Anderton is a part-owner of Victory Amplifiers. (As revealed in KDH's video on the subject).

I moved from Victory to Friedman late last year and I was incredibly happy with both amps! I think if I were to go back to Victory, I would 100% do the super sheriff, I love how there are 2 different head sizes for the same amp. I love smaller amp heads as it’s easier to move between gigs.
Luv my Sheriff 22 at edge of breakup on the vintage channel, gain at 9 master at 12, but as Lee says, very loud for the house. As expected, these sound awesome with an LP. No pedals needed, just roll the volume. One thing, they do expose sloppy playing.
Ok so this updated Sherrif range is ridiculous 🤩😳🤘🔥🔥 also that duchess pedal sounds terrific, as Mick from That pedal show would say "everything sounds better when the knobs are at 2 o'clock" 😂😂😂
As I am a victory amp user and have a couple of the lunch box corium heads. I realize that they are PC board construction and unfortunately they have not been the greatest time I’ve had but I like the tones. I think the victory 22 is a better built than the victory 25 and someways not because everything works on the 25 but the 22 had more of the vintage tones I was actually looking for, however, this sheriff 100 as concert and gigs are starting up now. Seems like a great option and I read the specs showing that it is wired now in my victory 22 it had hand wired tube sockets otherwise the rest was all PCB construction sheriff, 25 again all PCB board construction, no hand wiring and no hand wired valve sockets is this amp truly hand wired and if so, what parts what kind of transformers are used and why are these details not published I am all for you owning as much of victory as you want. I’ve said this in another comment, but I do wish you guys would disclose more about the internals, especially when it comes to saying this is a hand wired amp because I’ve got, two Friedmans that cost a whole lot more money to get a hand wired 100 W head than what you’re charging here and that makes me have some serious concerns. Could you please respond with a update on the information I seek as far as the internals of the super sheriff, if not, I know what’s inside the Friedman because they open boxes on other videos. This one I have not been able to see or have describe to me. What was inside of it. The one thing that kinda sucks is that they tossed the 0.3w speaker out on the 25. It’s one of the best features on any lunchbox amp out there and if it had stayed I would totally replace my 22 for the newer version.
Honestly the master volume on the mk2 does take the amp down to home use volume levels, and if you really want to drive the power amp & keep the volume low then either the Bugera PS1 attenuator or the Two Notes Captor are great options...
@@andertons Depending on how low you really want to go (e.g. sub TV level) you may find that even the modern reactive attentuators don't do it for driving the power section of anything other than very low wattage amps. There’s barely any info about these online yet for some reason, so here’s an honest review of the Sheriff 25. It’s pretty negative, but it is what it is. 1. Very standard (bad) taper on the volume pots. All the volume comes in at 8:00 and there’s no way to fine tune or dial it in for bedroom volume. This is common with alot of amps but sad to see on a Victory. The old Sheriff 22 and Copper 35 both have a nice subtle travel on their master volumes. So to see a Victory follow this trend of unusable Master volumes just sucks (but it does help sell attenuators). 2. The entire range of the presence is very dark until the last bit passed 4:00 on the dial, then it immediately becomes ear piercingly shrill. Very bizarre situation. 3. The presence shift and bass focus aren’t useful. The amps bass response is kind of frustrating. It lacks depth and “bounce”. Sort of a hard thud with no give is how I’d describe it, and the bass focus knob doesn’t correct this overall voicing issue. Presence shift button just makes the already dark amp even darker, or even more shrill with the knob up as I said. 4. The gain on the “Hot Rod” channel doesn’t sound Marshall inspired at all, nor does it feel as it should under the fingers (It doesn’t tighten and “fuzz up” the harder you play or have that reactive “sponginess” if that makes any sense). It’s a very generic high gain thing with no British character. 5. This is pretty subjective, but the Vintage channel is surprisingly clean. Even with the gain all the way up on it, it’s still not quite enough to achieve most 70’s rock tones. You could put a high output humbucker through it, but that kind of defeats the purpose and doesn’t make much sense for the genre. If it doesn’t have enough drive and compression to rock AC/DC riffs with an 8k PAF, then what’s the point of the channel? They should’ve just made it a full blown high headroom fender clean channel and not advertised it as the “plexi” side. Also, something that (annoyingly) hasn’t really been made clear yet in any of the online ads or demos - the real difference between this and the old Sheriffs. The old Sheriffs were voiced very fuzzy and warm, basically a Fender Tweed sound that was good for early Clapton and ZZ-Top, not usable at all for AC/DC or any bright cap “kerrang” type tones. This new Sheriff isn’t just a simple update, but has clearly been totally redesigned and re-voiced from the ground up and is in fact completely different. I was really hoping for a mid 70’s JMP type thing, but unfortunately it’s basically identical in sound and response to every Friedman I’ve ever tried (super dark with lots of gain and a volume knob that gets too loud, too fast). So I guess a Friedman clone is what they were going for and that’s too bad. The old Sheriffs weren’t perfect, sure, but their Master volumes worked at bedroom levels, their presence knobs had a perceivable and usable sweep, and they had something much closer to that ‘imperfect’ sound of a Plexi.
I wish the 25 combo was a little less expensive. £1500 and I'd have to think about selling my V4 Sheriff I've had all of 6 weeks and some other gear to finance it. The Sheriff is a great family of amps though. I like my V4 a lot!
I had the Sheriff 40 but I returned it, because if you turned your gain or master up or down at all you had to redial the tone knobs, totally frustrating. Too bad, I really wanted to like that amp.
Who cares if they are invested or not? Listen to these amps, and look at all of the features they have. Multichannel, power scaling, more gain on tap etc etc... And I say this as a guy sitting in a room with three Marshall's, I'd buy a Sheriff over the Reissue and at the same price point. Jazzed for the Mastodon interview as well.
you are so right! also, these amps are designed for gigging musicians who for example want the ability to change out a bad tube quickly. 4-8 screws and you can change them no problem...
Does anyone know if when the earl was discontinued, was it replaced by one of the modern variants? i can't believe they got rid of the earl, wish they'd explain why, was there something not right with it? I hear people making approximations but it would be nice to get a reply from Andertons on this.
The closest thing to the Earl is the V30 or V130 (Countess and Super Countess) apparently. They moved away from the hand wired amps and started their venture in lunchbox heads and then the larger versions. Hand wired is quite labour intensive and I suppose as demand grew they had to streamline production. PCB is cheaper and easier from a production point of view but not so good for repairing and reliability unfortunately. Nothing wrong with the Earl except cost of production I'd bet.
So does this mean that one could theoretically use master one across the channels for rhythms and master two for lead volume boost and switch between what virtually is four channels for a bit of extra gain on the lead if needed or is there a catch with this? (like unmanageable differences in volumes between green/red and hot rod/vintage if one was to apply that approach). Would be really curious to find out. Thanks :))
How the hell do you justify a £700 difference between the head and combo for a few feet of wood/ tolex a bit of cable, female jack socket and a £135 speaker ?
The OG Sheriff 22 is all I play since I got it two months ago. I went from 11 pedals down to 5 and use both the effects loop and channel switching unlike Lee. These new ones seem like they wouldn’t need an O/D pedal at all. I like to have my KOT to push the amp.
With the old series, I think the 44 sounds better than the 22. With the new, I prefer the 25 over the 100. I think the 25 sounds better than the 22 as well. The 22 sounds more boxy.
Still hoping Victory finds some way to reintroduce the Silverback despite Chappers no longer being a Victory Artist, kinda like how they had the BD1 as a unChappers'd RD1.
It kinda sucks the BD1 isn't made anymore either. I believe both got discontinued when Chappers parted ways with Victory. I liked it, almost like Victory made a boutique Tiny Terror. I wish I knew these new ones were coming, I bought a V4 Sheriff last month, and would probably consider the 25 combo now, if I could sell off some gear first!
anybody else switch to bass amps? I switched to using a bass amp for guitar last year and I can't go back to regular guitar amps. Once you get a taste of those mids and low end vibrations you'll never want to use a regular guitar amp again. Guitar amps can't go into the bass frequencies, sadly.
What I don't like is that the lower wattage amps (lunchbox amps?) don't also get housed in a wooden cabinet with tolex etc. I want the lower wattage version of this amplifier, but I want it in a cabinet like it's big brother. It's really annoying why Victory keep doing this.

PCB is cheaper and easier from a production point of view but not so good for repairing and reliability unfortunately. Nothing wrong with the Earl except cost of production I'd bet.
Pete can slap both cheeks, top and back of your head all at the same time. He's a legend!
Hey Guys, the sheriff 25 in comparison to the VC35 the copper, which one is more suitable for classic rock tones?
If you guys got Angus Young for a Captain Meets... Bellissimo!
When is Pete going to give us a rundown of his Strymon-ified Fender pedalboard?
The Captain Meets Billy K or Dirty B.Hinds?!
100% coming soon....
@@andertons Big hype! It's not just big, it's large!
Dobby impression: 10/10
Does the 100 have significantly more gain than the 25, or is it a similar max gain?
I'm buying this.
Great amps. Still wait for the moment when Danish Pete finally learn Blood and Thunder riff on a full speed.😅😅😅
I‘m confused - so is the old Sheriff range (22 etc) discontinued?
So does this mean that one could theoretically use master one across the channels for rhythms and master two for lead volume boost and switch between what virtually is four channels for a bit of extra gain on the lead if needed or is there a catch with this? (like unmanageable differences in volumes between green/red and hot rod/vintage if one was to apply that approach). Would be really curious to find out. Thanks :))
i saw that bill came to the store..... so is that the captain meets?
Can the sheriff25 be used at bedroom levels as well?
No it cannot
How do you think it compares to the Pink Taco V2?
I believe the captain has an investment
lol
I wondered why this channel always pushes Victory amps
If I'm not mistaken he's an investor in Victory.
I’ve read comments from a while back suggesting that he had some part of it
They never demo music products and recommend Against purchase
Can you get a get rock tone from the first channel
Is there a combo version of these victory amps? I know it's probably a dumb question but you never know lol and I don't know alot about these amps ..
Yes there is - its in the video! :)
How the hell do you justify a £700 difference between the head and combo for a few feet of wood/ tolex a bit of cable, female jack socket and a £135 speaker ?
Yup, pretty bonkers decision. I can't see that selling.
sounds great.
is angus young coming later?
Les réveils de Pete sont toujours un vrai bonheur à regarder. En français dans le texte. 🙂:-)
My Lord..... That Victory sounds more like the perfect Marshall, than a perfect Marshall could be...
Sounds great.... When will they produce one that is in the budget of the "average" person?
I was just about to buy an older Sheriff 22. I actually think I like the old model better. 🤔 Still, Danish Pete makes every amp sound good.
Ha-ha! Danish Pete, Volume Pig! I like seeing him loving the Hell out of making a lot of racket.
@9:56 we witnessed DP tipping his hat to mastodon
Think Marshall just need to bring out a JVM studio 25.
Pete been working on his chugs
What I don't like is that the lower wattage amps (lunchbox amps?) don't also get housed in a wooden cabinet with tolex etc. I want the lower wattage version of this amplifier, but I want it in a cabinet like it's big brother. It's really annoying why Victory keep doing this.
