    Some of the best tone the Captain has ever had when he kicked in the wah on the LP. Sounds amazing.

    Here's a bit of 'owners review' of the Sheriff 44 after playing it for a year - there's too little unbiased/unpaid information from independent people out there!
    I always wanted a JTM45, that glassy, spongy 'Hendrix' sound is just what I need for my Blues trio. I think the 2 channel design of the JTM45 is stupid, forcing you to balance the tone and volume at the same time. Also, the volume of it is way too much for band use, people get their head blown off (and it's big and heavy). After many years with 6L6 based amps ('69 BassMan head, Supersonic, Blues DeVille) I was surpriced to discover that I actually prefer the sound of EL34 tubes.
    The Sheriff 44 was the answer to everything and after buying the head used I bought a new 2x12 vertical closed cabinet too. I also use it with a Marshall 2061CX closed 2x12 cabinet (G12H30 Anniversary) and a homebuilt closed 2x12 (built like a Marshall 1936, with greenbacks) and it sounds great with all of them.
    As a "pedal dinosaur", I don't use channel switching and I get all my overdrive from pedals (Mad Professer Sweet Honey for low gain, SL Drive for medium/higher gain and Tube Screamer boost for solos).
    This gave me an issue with the Sheriff as both channels are designed to do some overdrive if you hit the input directly from the guitar. My main Blues guitar is a Fender Highway 1 Strat with Texas Specials but I also play in a ZZ TOP Tribute band using a Duesenberg 49'er with humbuckers, which has a lot more output. This makes the Sheriff compress/overdrive instead of raising the volume when boosted with two drive pedals. After talking to the (always quickly responding) Victory guys I was adviced to change the input V1 tube to a lower gain tube.
    Now I have a 12AT7 in V1 (gain 60 instead of 12AX7 gain 100) and it takes pedals like a champ - I have a hard time choosing between the '69 BassMan head and the Sheriff - the Sheriff wins though as I much prefer to use new amps.
    The PCB versus PTP wiring is a non-issue to me - the current does not know if it runs through a wire or a fat, well designed PBC copper track! I also believe that a solid PCB board is more rugged and dependable than components hanging around on a PTP amp and wires running everywhere. It is a question of designing the PCB properly (which Victory has done) and choosing the right high quality components (which Victory has done), end of story!
    So there, a happy Sheriff 44 user :) It's small, lightweight, has the biggest 3D, glassy and smooth JTM tone, fits all kind of speaker Ohms and I can change output tubes and make the biasing myself, what a great idea!

    I've been watching this channel for a looong time and it has been an extremely fun ride so far! These vids have even helped me get through some tough times in my life. It is so cool to see Lee skills expand over the years! And Rob, I can tell you two are good friends, it's so cool to watch your grinning from ear to ear face while Lee is playing like you are very proud of him, it's really nice to see these days. You two make a great duo!
    Keep it up!
    Cheers
    Andrew
    p.s. try not to use the Bass Breaker for the guitar based videos too much, It's almost a too perfect all around amp but in terms of entertainment value I it might get a little bit boring, just my 2 cents.

    It' sounds like it has a Post Phase Inverter Master Volume which affects the negative feedback, giving the ideia that is pushing harder on the master section at low settings (in this case, the Phase inverter tube) ! This is exacly like Orange amps work (OR50, OD120, Rockerverb mkIII atenuattor, etc...)

    I know this is an older vid, but just to say that the 22 into a 4x12 with a pair each of old greenback M speakers and H speakers sounds completely massive - it has a lot of that openess that the 44 has in the vid. Works great with a Klon type drive by the way.
    The .3 Watt setting uses an attenuator load (I'm guessing it's resistive rather than reactive) and it's still pretty loud (a .3 W amp is about 1/4 as loud as a 30W) - but the Master Volume is one of the best I've heard. The attenuated output is a bit crunchy when it's turned-up, but it allows very impressive tones at whisper volumes; just use the normal output and master volume in normal use.
    I've never really liked EL84s, but every previous amp I've had them in has been cathode biased - the 22 is (as said in the vid) fixed bias and it's solid - it just doesn't have the "smallness" that I've previously heard. And it's really light too!
    I got my 22 in June and I've practiced/rehearsed/gigged with it, and realised just the other day that I haven't actually powered-up my Marshall since.
    Andi

    • @bulzah
      @bulzah 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      0.3 watt is loud? Can u use in on max master volume in house?

    • @AndiPicker
      @AndiPicker 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depends on your house? 0.3W dimed is NOT whisper quiet, but the amp does sound good at whisper level, the MV control is very good and is post Phase Inverter, so you can get the PI tube driving before the level is turned down, and the sound of the PI is a lot of what we think of as being power stage drive. Very low levels do not ever sound the same as loud levels just made quieter, our ears respond differently to different sound levels (Fletcher Munson), and the dynamics are more compressed sounding - which is actually what we want at super low levels so we don't keep losing the quiet bits below room noise and blasting the loud bits at baby-waking levels.

    • @bulzah
      @bulzah 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I kinda beside giging want to use it at home i mean reasonable volume. I don't wana neighbours calling police :) So in conclusion, if i dime master on 0.3 watt, would i be able to use it in home?

    • @AndiPicker
      @AndiPicker 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hard to answer without knowing what your circumstance is and what you think of as reasonable, but I'd go out on a limb and say - probably not. BUT - it sounds very good not dimed.

    I watch thousands of guitar videos and love your shows the absolute most!!! I was wondering if you could make a video breaking down all the different terminology for guitar or guitar related stuff. I'm a long time player but I imagine for a beginner player it can be super confusing. Especially some of the difference between countries as well. i.e. Pick guard, scratch guard, scratch plate, black guard, white guard ect. Every part of the guitar or amp or pedals seem to have multiple terms/names. Would be a blast to see how big of a list you and the Captain could come up with.

    You guys should do an octave pedal shoot out! Since the as of recent release of the tc sub n up, a lot have people have been switching from pogs and it would be cool to see you're guys unbiased demo discussing them.

    The trouble with any of these new amp brands coming out is, that the tones you have in your head are based on music thats 30 years old plus. New artists are still trying replicate whats gone before using classic gear so anyone trying to sound like them will gravitate to the classic gear and hence the new amp companies will just try to sound like whats gone before, to gain market share. What would be good would be to see a new amp with a different sound and sponsor an artist who would make it big so we change the benchmark of whats in our head

    Love combining words esp when it's an impromptu accident like what Lee did! Spankily = Sparkly + Spanky .. mine own's Visualry = Visual + Scenery ..

    this really is the golden age of gear (GAG?) so many choices of great stuff these days. we used to have Fender, Marshall, and Peavey. All we could afford was the Peaveys of course and then the Mark I Boogie came out and we all lusted after it just like these Victorys which do sound fantasitic. Still can't afford them either what with the alimony and bills and all the rest. Just plug back into my Peavey Renown and rock on.

    Chappers is smitten by the wah now!! You won't see him for like 3 days and the first time you talk to him he will be like wah wah wah. Awesome technological medium portrayal of these fine assemblies of guitar sound procuration and other big words of which I can't spell or use in sentences!

    really like the sheriff 22. you didn't show the manual bias device on the back. is it similar to fender supersonics? like cold/std/hot?

    Lee's playing in this video is awesome !
    Btw, I realy want to get my hands on a Sheriff 22 but i'm not sure how it compares to for example a blackstar HT40 or Marshall DSL 40C becasue where I live there's nowhere to try these Victory amps. Is it still useable at bedroom volume even on the 22W mode for blues-ish/rock sound or even with a distortion in front of it ?

    They make clean sounding bends and vibratos look easy. I attempt bends and strings pop out from under my finger tips or my finger tips slip under the above strings, making noise. I attempt vibratos and I can't make the rotating motion, I lose the ringing note, and mostly only my finger tip bends at the first joint when applying pressure in a vibrato motion. Can really piss a guy off, especially when said guy has been messing with a guitar for 3-4 years. Mostly acoustic though.
