Been there so many times over the years. It’s always a miracle. When it’s hot out sometimes I lay in the cold water late afternoon in the summer and all my troubles melt away. The noise of the river seems to disappear… and all I hear is nothing and the problems of this world go away and I’m at peace.
Been a while. I had a great day on the Upper Sac that same weekend. Had to do some serious bushwhacking to avoid the crowds and the dude with the rifle. Worth it--found some great spots. You had good luck with the construction crews! Bravo. Great video as always. Great to see the classics working. I've been using an orange collared pheasant tail which is wracking up almost as many fish as the Duracell. Keep em coming.
The upper sac can definitely attract more people on holidays. I haven't fished the lower half very much this year. I'll have to check out that pattern, I'm a big fan of orange accents on flies.
For educational propose, I like when you fish with the yard. I can see exactly what seam you are fishing. You look several years younger than myself but you have big Cajones wading without a staff like that. Be careful and keep the great videos coming. Hopefully I can make it up there sometime for a guided trip with you
My wife said the exact thing about the yarn. I'll definitely be using it more. The light has to be PERFECT to see the sighter on camera when tight lining. Part of my wants to find something that's more of a solid material. I've tried all manner of sighters and colored mono and it's very hard to see. Hope we get to hang out some time.
This is home. The area is teeming with life in a way that is extraordinary even among the Three Sisters. The fortitude required to find its secrets will always elude the masses. Still, a sanctuary deserves protection.
What a great place to fish. You caught some nice fish. I'm targetting Pike over here in The UK but will be going for trout and grayling when it gets a bit cooler.
There he is haha. Awesome video Eric. Man, I love that river. Can't believe I didn't fish it all this year. I've never fished that area but looks amazing. How long is the hike down, time and distance?
The hikes are short, but steep. All the access points are relative close to the water. So the hike down was like 5 min and hike out 15. You can't really go up and down river a whole lot because it cliffs out, so you hole hop in the truck a lot.
They are some Orvis brand pants, but any kind of quick dry works great. I have some Costco pants I use a lot too. I mainly do it to keep poison oak away
@@driftstone Wow very clever! I was wondering why it was shaped differently. I've been trying to do something similar with my measure net but found pipe insulation too bulky. Thanks for sharing.
@@driftstone my hemos have scissors on them for that very reason. I buy the yarn by the foot. I make them kinda long then trim them to adapt to the conditions
So im in my mid 40s and been fly fishing since around 10 yrs old but ive still not tried euro style oddly enough. Not for any specific reason really just never made the switch. But my point for mentioning this is i dont see how ur getting down quik enough in some of them faster waters without any extra weight being added. U obviously are or u wouldn't be pulling in the fish that u are but its just shocking to me i suppose. Haha as im writing i see u add weight on the video. Ive never seen anyone use weight while euro nymphing. Do u prefer euro style or old school floating line with an indicator? Just curious really
As with any answer it's always going to depend. I'm technically not Euro nymphing because I'm not following the competition fly fishing rules. Things like split shot and indicators are not allowed. So rather than have flies with bigger and bigger beads, I will use split shot if I need it. The cast also has a big impact on how fast things sink. Look up a tuck cast, basically I want the flies to hit the water first and keep everything off the water. I can control how hard the flies hit and that will affect the sink rate. I use floating lines from a boat when indicator nymphing and when fishing dry flies, but being able to pick up the leader an fish past fast current without mending is a huge advantage.
@@driftstone u wasnt fishing an indicator in the video was u? I guess when i think and say euro style im thinking that ur in direct contact with ur flies and mostly detecting ur bites by touch. Sometimes a sighter but usually its just feeling the hit because of the direct contact to the fly right? Or am i off with that statement? But yes thats kinda why i was confused when i seen u add weight since i thought u was euro fishing but im not sure if im correct about any of it i suppose I might be wrong on what i seen u doing and i might be wrong of my labeling as euro style fishing to. I apologize for where im incorrect but can u correct me on my wrongs please haha? Was u technically fishing euro until the point u put on weights then? Or is that incorrect also?

Great views, even better shots & some fish? heck yeah man, thanks for sharing
Thanks Nick!
I always enjoy watching your videos eric. Thanks for sharing. Hopefully we get to see more
I'm glad you still enjoy them after all this time. I'm working hard to get them posted more often
Awesome video Eric! Sometimes you know, when you get a fish on that second cast, its gonna be a good day 😎
It can go either way, just one stroke away from that first cast curse we were chatting about in the Discord :D
Beautiful shots! It's always great having a go to river when you need a good day on the water. Great video man!!
Thanks man, love some of the lakes up your way
Looks like a beautiful area, and seeing the one with the scratches was neat.
It is a wonderful river! I really enjoyed it!
Nice job on the views Eric!!🎉
Thanks, this one has done better than expected
Looked like a fun day! We got snow here the last couple days so I'm missing the wet wading season.
We got our first snow as well and the last few trips have been in waders. I miss it already as well!
Great video as usual! That river looks like a lot of fun. Cheers!
Thanks! I hope you've had some good fishing and the channel is going great!
@ thanks man!
Great Video Eric. Just ordered a bunch of frenchie from your store. They crush down here on my local rivers as well. Thank you.
Thanks Brandon and good to hear from you. Yeah those things are kind of like cheating!

Thanks for the video. What type of nymph setup were you using. ESN, drop shot?

Beautiful place
It's a beautiful and rugged canyon!
Nice one Eric 🤙
Thanks man, miss chatting with you
Nice video and beautiful trout
Thanks!
Where is this? You may have said but I didn’t pick up on it. Great video btw!

I'd love to chase Pike one day. I'd have to travel pretty far to find them. What size rod do you like to use for that?
@@driftstone These are 12 ft 3.25lb TC so I can cast a decent size bait. For lure fishing I use a 1.5lb, and for fly fishing for them, maybe an 8/9

I am curious about your wading pants. Are they just some type of quick dry material?

Well, tomorrow is election day, draw a map where you go fishing and we'll check it out and vote on it
Awesome video, you running a mono rig?
Yup, a 20lb butt section this time.
What is the blue stuff on your net frame? Is that to help it float?
Yup, it's foam. It's actually a really cheap Amazon net and I put a measure net basket on it
@@driftstone Wow very clever! I was wondering why it was shaped differently. I've been trying to do something similar with my measure net but found pipe insulation too bulky. Thanks for sharing.
How about those Dorsey indicators. Pretty awesome to cast compared to anything else eh?
Yeah, it's really cool how light it lands on the water. Next time I'll use a smaller one so it should cast even better.

@@genedavella9817 I have some of the same. Trimming it didn't even occur to me, thanks!
Been waiting for a new episode
Me too 🤣 Need more fishing in my life
Is that a 45 ft. Leader?
I make mine about 35

bringing back regular vid drops??
I'm working towards getting the back, I hate how long between vids it's been. Aiming for 2/mo
do your feet get wet when you rig your booties like that?
Yup they do. The bootie is basically a thick sock so you can wear your boots without waders.
Booties are okay mid June- Sep, when water temps have warmed. Use waders earlier or later or your legs freeze.
Duracell , birds nest , frenchie
The classics!
This video is about the river and this guy doesn’t even know the name of the river , useless informative video.😂
