Hey, so I have an 06 Chevy espress that's awd and the transfer case has been replaced once by previous owners but the tail bushing is bad now. The bushing and seal slid out of the housing. So does that mean I can replace the bushing? I know that the bushing is part of the case on the oem one. Thank you for all the help your videos already provided.
Barry Monroy the mount has the housing bolts half covered and there's no way to get a socket on the two bottom bolts to torque them . The tech should have torqued all the housing bolts then installed the tranny mount last ..
HEY! RockAuto rocks. Great tech/production/talent combo; informative, now I should be able to do my own AFTER I find the appropriate tools. Lifting that transmission though...
Video shows bushing being installed and has oil groove in it...bushing needs to be installed correctly with oil groove in right position or it will fail again.
So does the bushing cause a vibration on the rear end so I replaced my seal three times and I’m like why the hell does it still leak? I’ve noticed it splattering on my truck so now watching this video. I wonder if this is causing my issue also, I feel like I have a vibration but it’s more on the rear.
Thanks guys. Mine was leaking, I replaced just the seal, not knowing better. Leaked again. Now I'll pull the tailhousing. It does seem like I have a bit of play on the output shaft. Is this indicative of other issues? Or just of the bad bushing? This is a "new race trans" that had already a bad valve body that I replaced. Saying maybe under 300-400 miles on this new build.
holles conley where exactly does this o ring go? By any chance you happen to have found a part number? I have the same trans and it’s leaking. Thanks in advance
Couple weeks ago I changed my ujoints and centre support hanger bearing now truck drives fine but is leaking and it makes a clunk shifting from park when parked on a hill would this be caused by a bad bushing? I noticed the output shaft I could wiggle by hand but didn't think anything of it at the time
If those are bad will this cause vibration while driving and or slowing down or is that a torque converter because my truck vibrates when I'm driving or if I hit a small decline in the road it makes a vibrating noise
Gabriel Chavez I found it, replaced boot as well still leaks. I got it from oriellys, but by the time I saw this the packaging had been long gone. I’ll look around if you haven’t found it already
I've a question if you don't have a bushing driver can you just find something with an appropriate diameter and press it out? Or it can damage the extension housing ?
If you're still don't have the boot it's the wrong one because the boot keeps the dirt off the slip yoke where it slides in and out and keeps the dirt from getting up there and tear up seal it's a wiper
Absolutely! Shooting for TV means we speed a lot, so there wasnt time to do that but you are absolutely right - And only get u-joits w Zerk fittings so you can keep'em lubed up! Thx!
Im glad u said that. I have a 1994 ford van that js leaking from this area. The mechanic changes that seal. And i drove an hour drive to miami. When i got back the problem happened again. He never mentioned it could have been something inside the housing. He did say rhe ujointsbwere bad. I hear them squeaking. Could that be the reason it keeps breaking the seal?
If that bushing was wore out people that yoke would be chewed up where it rides on that bushing ...one time in 48 years of auto mechanic have I seen that bushing go bad
It can be out of tolerance and not chew up the yoke. Just a bit of excessive play can load the seal and wear it out prematurely. The bushing is $7. Swap it.
Great video. Fixed a 2003 ford ranger with the same issue. Keep doing things the right way. Saved myself from stress and headaches. Thank you.
I just changed the seal n u joints 04 Ranger. Shouldve changed bushing smh 😡
These guys are on point! I learned the hard way. Always change both the seal and bushing.
Amazing guys good job, you gave me the answer i was looking for 🙏
Hi Great video, loved it. Can you tell me where the oil comes from, Because when you remove the casing there is very little oil in there.
So would this be the cause of the vibration I feel at 65 mph and above...?

Why put the mount on before you torqued them? You can't torque the bottom 2 if you put the mount on.
Because you can’t, unless you have that transmission cranked up real high
You caint torque the bolts in behind the mount after its mounted.
Ronnie Sellers Why not

I came to say the same thing!!

Thank you Manuel!
Can you please help me out with the part numbers I need to do this to my trans I found the oil seal boot but nothing else thank you
I need a video to take out the bushing with the transmission still on the vehicle and without removing the extension housing.

how did you torque those bottom bolts?
Turbocharge it and some MickeyThomson on 4 links system would help 👌 🔥 😋 👍 😎
Think I seen the brand National on the seal. Reoccurring problem? Hope not. 😬
I love my press ! You guys r right on !!
Mine is leaking bad from that area. I didn't Change the bushing

Man you got that truck lifted up so high you must be standing on a milk crate
When you had the Tail Stock off, Why did you not replace the Yoke o ring in the cup on the spline ?
holles conley where exactly does this o ring go? By any chance you happen to have found a part number? I have the same trans and it’s leaking. Thanks in advance
Nice vid will a worn out tailshaft bushing cause a faint clicking noise ?
Readjust the lip seal spring to be a tad tighter

That clunk when you park in a hill is normal, just use the parking brake before putting the transmission in park.
If those are bad will this cause vibration while driving and or slowing down or is that a torque converter because my truck vibrates when I'm driving or if I hit a small decline in the road it makes a vibrating noise
Usually that vibration is torque converter shudder
I have the same issue on a 2006 Pontiac gto how much does something like this usually cost the transmission guy told me 350$
Don’t forget if your working on an old vehicle to mark the u joint/flange on the diff input unless you’d like a thumper of a suprise when you drive.
Who pays for cardboard? All stores will give it away
Any part number on the bushing? I been looking for it online but I keep getting the bushing for the t-case on a 4x4 instead of the 2WD
Please let me know if you find it also I can’t find it anywhere

OUTSTANDING
nice video--great production quality--so--assuming this is a 4L80e? are they all 6 bolt tailhousings?
If you're still don't have the boot it's the wrong one because the boot keeps the dirt off the slip yoke where it slides in and out and keeps the dirt from getting up there and tear up seal it's a wiper
Thanks fellas!!!
nice video guys
How do you know if you need a regular seal or a booted seal? I have a 2003 Silverado 2500 HD 2WD
Look at the old seal
A leak on a chevrolet/? Say it ain't so. Don't those things come with a bag of kitty litter from the factory.
Nope, they mail you the bag after they figure it's gone past the 200K mi fence.
Awesome
what are the part numbers for these two items i have the same truck. pls pls respond i need to fix mine..
Barry Monroy fix yours yet?
Where do u guys get your torque specs from please
Google
Torque before you install mount😉
I replace the seal but it still leak what can the problem be
still leaking from the seal area?
do the u joints while in there. why not
Absolutely! Shooting for TV means we speed a lot, so there wasnt time to do that but you are absolutely right - And only get u-joits w Zerk fittings so you can keep'em lubed up! Thx!

Very helpful, but would've been nice if they had included removal/installation is the drive shaft
think i'd just use the rock auto box unfolded.
Tap bush isn't as good as pressing bush...and tap on a surface that doesn't bounce/
haha goggles
