Y'all should've put Significantly more paint on your pallettes (especially the white) would've made this a bit easier for you. Next time you could number the paints and number the paint tubes so you can add more if you need.
I laughed harder than I have in a long time while watching this video. The editing you did of Bob always sent me and my sister into laughter. A great video made by great people! Keep letting your light shine through your love! (Sorry if this sounds weird, English is my second language)
"No accidents, only happy mistakes" needs to be a shirt like yesterday lol Also your paintings are actually not really all that bad, your techniques are very close to Bob Ross', but it's just the colors are off, which is not necessarily bad, bc somewhere in the Universe there could be a planet or a gas giant's moon that looks just like your paintings, soo as an intermediate astronomer, this could exist somewhere in the Universe
Because he took art in school, and college I believe, he’s probably as close to a professional artist as you can get without being a “professional artist” lol
Seeing Evan LOAD his brush for the sky gives me an idea for another Bob Ross challenge: every so often (set a timer or pick a number of steps) E&K switch canvases :D
12:40 as someone who has watched Bob for years, I only realized recently that when he says "no pressure" he doesn't mean that in an encouraging way, he means that literally... do not apply pressure with the pallet knife let it glide on top. (he might have meant it in both a encouraging and literally)
Same when using a double-edge razor. Cut my face so often the first few times, until I realised, they're weighted for a reason.. you don't need to put any pressure, let it glide on the skin
Yeah, Evans gave a kinda high angle two in one shot of his canvas and the other monitors, while Katelyn's was a perfectly low angle looking up at the canvas... usually.
Respect to Katelyn for editing this video in particular - the red stressed me out a bit, even with breaks and such, and she must have sat and stared at hours of red video for this.
There are no happy accidents just mistakes No, there are no accidents just happy mistakes? 😂I laughed so hard. My life honestly feels like no happy accidents just mistakes right now
This is actually a legitimately good art excercise. I've sometimes done a digital painting excercise where I turn my screen to b/w and just pick colors based on lightness and darkness of tone, which is simar to this. So long as you use light and dark to define your shapes, you should still have a legible image in the end, and it really forces you to practice thinking about shadow and light.
Exactly, autumnal and maybe slightly overcast to give that grey-ish tint too. It's very appropriate for our current Texas weather 🤩 I'd proudly hang those in my house as I think they did a great job 😊
i didn't think anything could top the raw chaotic energy of Evan's wide-pupiled heart to heart with the camera as his appendix leaked in the "painting in the dark" video.... i was wrong 😂😂 love the eyeball shots, it really sells the "descent into madness" theme. i would love a followup "painting with blue light", im sure it would be very calming and not at all chaotic
Ironically as a fully color blind person if I switch my phone to have a red color filter I can actually see the differences between colors when usually I can’t. 😂 the color wheel did look like the colors were mostly the same but then again the colors look the same in white light as well. I think it’s interesting the different perspective some people have that helps some and challenges others
I was actually wondering how colorblindness would affect how this looks, since I have a friend who is red/green colorblind. That's so neat to get a different perspective!
My late husband was a colorblind house painter. Even though he did not see colors as others did, it didn't make a difference when it came to paint colors. His clients picked the colors and he applied them. Being color blind did not stop him from donating all organs after he died. I was informed his eyes helped at least one person to see. I don't know specifics about the donations.
@@Ashton_McCracken I’m so glad I found your comment cause I was curious about this as well! Maybe they should do a painting while wearing different types of color blindness glasses?
@@HeidiBuss-pd8cw I'm sorry for your loss of such an amazing person. I'm sure he made so many lives better. I'm glad his eyes have been able to make a difference in someone else's life.
How you two managed to both at times pick eerily similar colors to each other BUT ALSO how good the red looks with the colors you picked??? You're beating yourselves up! I think these both look so rad!!!! Red pine trees?? These look so damn cool!
I don’t mean this offensively to anyone involved - but these remind me of how a friend described everything, who was colourblind. She spoke highly of loving sunsets and stormy weather because the contrast “really made the tree lines pop”. I think they’re both really beautiful paintings, not least because they ask us to think about how different people perceive the same reality.
With other Bob Ross follow alongs,I don't know if people mention it and I miss it or they just don't mention it, but Bob Ross uses thick oil paints and then uses thinner as well. And he continually cleans his brush but the 'beating the devil out' is him trying to dry the brush (but not doing a greag job, so his blending brush seems to always have thinner on it still). I was glad to see towards the end you talked about it. An important rule is that thinner paint being added sticks to thick paint. So when you're adding on top, make it thinner that what's already on the canvas.
I love that you brought this back! Please try again but in blue or green light only. That's be interesting, too! I remember everyone doing this during the pandemic and reminds me that I still have the paints and whatnot. I'll have to do some more over the winter break.

From the start I thought that they looked really good. Both of them. You guys did an amazing job with those paintings. They both look amazing in my opinion.
Wow, actually they resemble the kind of white and dark monochrome paintings I've seen sold in places like Paris. They usually also have red as a highlight color. If your painting was the Eiffle Tower instead of mountains, it would be just like it! 👍 Just so you know, it's an actual art style you accidentally did 😂
Editing is amazing!! I cry laughed through the whole thing. Emo Bob, metal Bob, Katelyn's subtitles as she decended into madness, the Johnny Bravos, so much more. Everytime the sped up brush beating played i laughed!! 😂 Great work!!

I actually really like how they turn out! It's kind of like a black and white filter, but highlighting just the reds and some of the Oranges. It looks cool!

Honestly, these are super pretty!! I especially love Evans Minty mountains!! and the orange reflection on Katelyns one? idk what it is about it but it speaks to me?? Especially with the soft green of the far away ones. They just look so wimzical and magical. This is what i love about these types of monochrome/colourblind challenges, it shows that as long as you get the values and contrasts right, it will still look good, even if the colours don't look like you'd expect. And the "wrong" colours just feel magical, cause it works, but you'd never think of doing it normally :) Great work!!
We are learning of color theory in class right now. It was interesting to see the outcomes of the paintings. In class we had a bucket full of different colored Pom poms and we wore red glasses. The pictures kind of look like traditional Japanese art with that colour palette, I think they are really cool and turned out pretty good. Very funny to watch, I loved the horror Bob Ross sequences 😂😂😂
As someone who develops film and film photographs I can confirm how weird pure red light is. It truly makes everything look black and white, making it difficult to differentiate the chemical bottles, the trays, and the tongs, which is why they are coloured in ways to make one look white, gray, and black in red light. Furthermore I don't know if it is because of the monochromatic light but photos appear darker when only in red light, making developing more difficult.
This is by far my favorite video you guys have done. I've been laughing almost non-stop. The brilliant editing on top of you both slowly losing your minds from the red room. *Chef's kiss*
