- The game got released! Expect some videos of this for a bit. Sorry for the messed up resolution my OBS wasn't set up correctly.
This tutorial was okay until it just dragged on and on and then I got stuck multiple times. I am probably dumb since this decided to release at 4 AM in Europe, but it left a sour initial taste. I ended up download a savedata and skip the rest.

Download Srb2 Kart: mb.srb2.org/addons/srb2kart.2...
Srb2 Kart is a fan-made kart racer made by Kartkrew using the Srb2 engine which runs on the Doom Legacy engine.
The server played is in the title of the video.

hi hi, I didnt expect this video to get 3k views (and more) and its still going up. I did bad, and looking at the footage I know now where I missed where to proceed. I was tired and got out of bed to play the game really early. Actual videos of gameplay is coming soon and maybe I'll re-do the tutorial too.
Sorry for sucking lol
How do you skip the tutorial
My tutorial was hard because of controller mess up
There technically is a way to skip the tutorial... But it's not easy.
In the first area with Eggman, turn around and go through the speed tunnel.
At the other side will be a teleporter. Take it, and you'll be sent to "Test Track Zone"
From there, you have to race against 7 Egg-Robos and earn at least 4th place.
Here's the catch though... The AI has been set to the max, and you're still playing as Eggman with heavy weight and accel. They'll be blistering fast!
If you can somehow manage at least a 4th place, you skip the tutorial, and unlock the track for freeplay!
Fail the race, or select give up in the pause menu, and you'll be sent back to the tutorial and have to complete it properly.
(You can always revisit it in the tutorial menus after finishing to try again for the track unlock)
Thanks
Never thought I'd see the day a modern game - even if its a fangame - could rival the original Driver and Gran Turismo in the painful mandatory tutorial department, but here we are
Eh it's not so bad if you follow what it tells you to do.
@@MacUser2-il2cx
The tutorial is over an hour long.
No tutorial should be over 10 minutes AT THE SHEER MOST.
You can skip the tutorial
You know this thing is rough when a channel entirely dedicated to srb2k quit halfway through
legit the biggest bruh moment ever........
44 MINUTES?? IT FELT LIKE 3 HOURS
oh, it felt like 3 hours because I played more than the 44 minutes showed here. My bad y'all.
Either way, the tutorial did NOT need to be this long. It showed you tech you'd rarely use in-game.
This is only like half of it too....
I'm really glad this was spun off from SRB2Kart Classic because while I admire the ambition, there's just WAY too much going on, way too many mechanics, and way too many moving parts. Mario Kart, CTR, and SSASRT keep their mechanics simple but focus on squeezing every last drop out of them. Meanwhile, DRRR throws everything at the wall and a lot of it just doesn't stick.
Exactly my problem with it too. Kart racers can have high skill ceilings, but they should always have low skill floors.
a 45 minute tutorial for a kart racer is insane. you dont even use a majority of this tech in the actual game
45 minutes before I gave up btw. I was told I was only halfway!
@@AnimeSonicSrb2 the whole thing is too bloated with mechanics and they even locked addons and online play behind their new crappy challenge system. whole game is a mess
Insta-whip? Useless.
Tricks? Barely ever used before the fifth cup.
It's pretty overdesigned.
Although the core mechanics are still pretty good, like the rings and such.
@klevmeister1g it could've been worse. They could've paywalled it lol. At least it's an in game unlockable
@@TheAnimatedGamerit being free doesn't justify any of that...
It kinda sucks that the tutorial is that long but the game is FUN so its fine i guess, my biggest wish is that it was SKIPPABLE and maybe a smaller, digestible tutorial was available instead
Technically it is able to be skipped but ya need to be able to beat some hard cpus, ya just head back in the beginning area of the tutorial
@@fahyda oh I didn't know that, neat
Or if they divided it into chunks
@@fahydayeah you have to beat them once or else you’re locked out forever and are forced to do the tutorial
it's kinda nice seeing people giving criticism, hopefully the devs address the issues
That's a long ass tutorial for sure
Apparently I was told by someone that did the whole thing before giving up like me that I was only halfway through. This is way too overwhelming if even I got genuinely pissed off from it.
@@AnimeSonicSrb2 Is this REQUIRED to Actually PLAY the Game?!
@@joshuabautch8936 Yes... there's a skip but to skip it, they force you battle hard AI's. Fail that once, you are stuck in the tutorial.
“you WILL play the game EXACTLY how we want you too!!!”
this is giving me pkmn sun moon flashbacks
@@joshuabautch8936 yup
You didn’t even get to the epic trick tutorial that is definitely well explained and not poorly worded at all.
And definitely showcased with entirely well-designed jumps.
I was blinded by how cool the tricks look to notice how bad that part was
Geez. A long tutorial on driving a kart, I sorta felt like being that long would harm the playtime for people who don’t know the game at all.
I did. A LOT...
talk about a bad intro, this track is ugly and doesn’t mesh well with this game’s more slippery karts. A bad first impression
The fact you need to read giant text walls to be taught mechanics and play the game is pretty bad.
The only issue with this game so far is the tutorial and maybe mods being locked until you beat a specific cup.
Once you actually play the game, it's more fun.
Why they made a long ass tutorial, idk, they aren't limited by a corporation so they can easily fix this up, and make it more inviting to new players.
The password for unlocking addons early is apparently “McDonalds” btw
@@panegyrYeah, I think it's a reference to that one patent that got memed on with the diagram that says SAY "MCDONALD'S" TO SKIP AD
Update, they announced they are working on tweaking the tutorial based on feedback, they also released passwords to unlock addons and online without having to play the grand prix cups.
@@woshee_realThat's good to know. I get the feeling nobody outside of their team playtested this from the ground up. Even a small group of external testers should have been enough to see the tutorial is crazy.
@@nightgazer1330 reading this after a blogpost about them using irl people for beta testing (both gamers and non-gamers)
This game looks promising, but it could use a simplified tutorial or an SRB2K-style manual (or at least, a way to skip the long tutorial)
On an unrelated note, that death animation for getting damaged beyond the 20-ring deficit looks kinda brutal: Your character gets flattened into the ground for a second before they do the regular sonic death animation
outsise of the 1 hour long tutorial, i actually had a blast playing this game
You could say you had a... Robo blast?
Love the personality in this game!
the sprites are pure eye candy
yeah ill just stay on the first one
That intro goes crazy on mute.
44 minutes for a tutorial that doesn't even teach you everything.
Genuinely what is wrong with Kart Krew.
Wonder how many people they banned from their Discord today.
@@mechadekaA lot, probably.
They even required you to unlock online and addons. Luckily it is only for beating the first 4 cups but still
Never going to play the game this tutorial is unbearable.
I smell a new trash bin video idea
Just because you can implement an expansive feature rich tutorial doesn't mean you should
longest tutorial in the history of any video game ever (i think.)
Not long as Eve Online
Nah, Twilight Princess is brutal. But this is definitely bad for an arcadey kart racer.
MMXDiVE has 12 tutorial stages, iirc (area 1-1 to 2-6) and combining text reading, cutscenes, and points where the game stops you, that might be as long or almost as long. Also, this is only 45 min because of how long this guy took to go through menus and stuff and not following the tutorial's instructions at certain points
Xenoblade 2 has tutorial windows 12+ hours into the game (it’s still peak fiction)
@@callmezeldaonemoartime that game tutorial sucks (same as the english dub)
I included this video to find out what I'm doing wrong and fix it...
And well... It looks like even the man in the video gave up.
How sadly.
Love seeing all the graphics including the Sega Saturn controllers
I'm sorry, does that say _most_ of the tutorial? There's even more???
How to ruin a entire fangame even having a good potential:
step 1. Add tons of mechanics that you think are SICK, doesn't matter how many, throw things at the wall and see what sticks!!
step 2. don't even vmention half of them in the tutorial, who's gonna keep sitting through it for _that_ long anyway?
step 3. *30 minutes long tutorial*
people die when they are killed
i both understand your frustration and am frustrated by your frustration, it being 4 am did you no favors.
It was a wonderful day the other day when I saw this
Way too complicated. I was really excited for this too. Honestly its just better to stick with srb2 kart for now. Also through the entire tutorial i still never understand what rings did lol
did you know there's a 3d model setting?
the game seems fine but i wish they were adding more to justify this being a sequel
You may see all these people in the comments agreeing with the tutorials absurd lenth, but the problem with most of the comments is that they are basing the length of the tutorial off of the length of the video.
The performance in this video seems... subpar.
I understood where to go, and I was just WATCHING. I'll make an update when I actually play it, but I am very sceptical on just how bad it really is. It looks perfectly fine to me. ┐( ∵ )┌
EDIT: I actually loved the tutorial! It explains everything well, I loved the interactions between Doc and Tail's and the subtle story telling too! Only took me around 30 minutes, and that's with reading all dialogue and messing around some. I really liked it! There were a few things that felt out of place for a Kart Racer, like the switches, but the tutorial isn't even a race anyway. I found it quite enjoyable! I've also played a few hours of the rest of the game, and can confirm that it is absolute fire! Please, out other people (arguably ridiculous) claims that the game is a mess to the side, and at least try it. It's loads of fun!
Just got to play it myself and I can safely say the tutorial is NOT that damn long. I felt really slow throughout the entire game but that didn't stop me from concluding all of the tutorial sections in 15 minutes, TOPS. I still feel like I'm not fully in control of my speed and I don't really like any of the new mechanics because of how convoluted they feel, but it's unfair to say the tutorial was so jarring and long like the video make it look. Yes, it's a bad tutorial all things considered, but it doesn't warrant a 44 minute long video of someone just not getting it.
@lazure694 "No guys it's _only_ 15 minutes, just consoom the slop."
I actually loved the tutorial! It explains everything well, I loved the interactions between Doc and Tail's and the subtle story telling too! Only took me around 30 minutes, and that's with reading all dialogue and messing around some. I really liked it! (Yes, I know. Hot take.)
@@lazure694 One thing to keep in mind is that it is okay for this game to be different. I personally like that the game isn't as simple or easy to pick up and play as other Kart Racers. That's why I love it so much! The way the tutorial explains things, the game may seem convoluted, but while there are many mechanics the game is still relatively simple.
Is it convoluted compared to other Kart Racers? Yes. But if you're looking at it unbiased, I'd say no. It's just complicated.
@@mechadeka I think they mean that each individual section of the tutorial took them 15 mins each.

40 minute tutorial....i think i might kay myself
I dont mind it being long, but it needs to be skippable.
41:40 lmfao what was that
Peak
Too long, but cute dialogue and fun mechanics
seems excessive to make all of this mandatory to go through
Does I am the only one who don't understand anything with the gameplay ?
Don't worry most don't and it seems like it's so bad the most common response is basically "Ya don't bother with 90% of the mechanics most aren't going to be that useful"
This i literally an anti-new players tutorial
Everything could be done in less than 3 dialogues boxes, things like the options and the spb feels like bad filling for the tutorial and they can easily be removed
Oh and also they should add the option for skipping the tutorial please
You can leave it any time
@@tropluckyfr2077misinformation detected
you can skip it in one of two ways
1. Turn around at the start. This method takes you to a harsh race though. Getting 4th place or higher will allow you to skip the tutorial entirely! (and you even start the game with a new track unlocked!)
2. enter 'gaster' in the password menu.
@@I_TheNightWolf_I how the fuck is #2 supposed to be something the player knows
@@crimson-foxtwitch2581 trust me when I say that I just found out a few hours ago
I am actually astonished at how much you fucked around in tutorial. I get it was like 4 AM but this is ridiculous.
Almost like parts of the tutorial require external information to complete, which is why it is a _bad_ tutorial.
@@mechadeka I won't lie, it is pretty bad. An almost hour long tutorial shouldn't even be a thought on a Dev's mind.
Still, I understood a lot of the mechanics pretty quickly, and felt pretty engaged with what it offered. If it explained the mechanics a bit better and got shortened it could be salvaged.
As for other things like locking add-ons, time trials and online play behind progression, yeah I don't have anything for that. It's a _very_ bad design choice.
This game so far certainly feels like playing srb2 for the first time (i really dont like what ive played and this tutorial over complicating everything doesnt at all help.)
i think the tutorial was fine idk why everyone here is dogging on it. as a person who played the original srb2k a ton, it explains a lot of what one would need to know and new ideas are explained pretty well. really the only gripe i had with it was the underwater spb section being kind of hard but that was probably just a skill issue on my part
i can see how the dialogue does kind of drag on at times, but really its easy to infer what you need to do in a certain room most of the time.
and even then, a lot of the time in this video was spent just sort of dicking around? like the whole part with you just bullying the egg-robo. if i get time ill try and see how fast i can beat the tutorial
I wasn't dicking around. I genuinely had no clue what to do next because the game lacked direction. I tabbed out to ask people before I finally knew, which is why you see "NO FOCUS" for periods of time (I was tabbed out here). Again though it was midnight for me so I wasn't fully awake.
It does a horrible job at explaining things and it drags on way too long. I was just watching a stream earlier where the guy got confused about the insta-whip mechanic, because the game doesn't explain that you need to hold down the button to charge up the attack first (which isn't helped by the name having "insta" in it, making you think the attack is instant, and not something that needs to be charged first). For me, the half-pipe part was a big road block (not sure if it was just poorly explained, or if it just controls like ass), and the trick section had me stumped (doesn't help that the signs that tell you what direction to push can sometimes be out of view, not sure why the direction isn't a UI element instead).
@AnimeSonicSrb2 I can see why you may have done that a few times, but there were seriously times where all you had to do was drive forward to activate dialogue, but you just drove around in circles. The game isn't going to give you an arrow pointing exactly where to go.
@@firedreadyblocks7427 Which is funny because there's an arrow in the actual game if you go the wrong way... But yeah, I was sleepy I did realize later in the video I messed up
@@AnimeSonicSrb2 There being an arrow to show where to go is not a good sign 💀
the tutorial was so stupid i'd much rather play kart z than this
So much dialogue, and so many mistakes too. I guess no one on the team knows English. I hate seeing so many English errors, especially in professional settings. And why does the game title use the wrong name for Eggman, but in-game uses the correct name? If the dev team knows the names of the characters, how could they fuck up the title like that? Is it some kind of reference for how bad the old American games did their titles? And if so, why repeat their mistakes?
I'm sorry, when they used the worng name for Eggman?
I remember Robotnik being his actual name, it was referenced in earlier Sonic games.
@@lavrasource His name has always been Eggman in Japan. Early American versions of the games changed the name to Robotnik, and they started to fix their mistake with Sonic Adventure. Just because an English source fucked up long ago, doesn't make it override the original Japanese.
@@Midori_Hoshi I mean, the game does use a lot of things from classic sonic, so why using Egggman's name from that time is wrong?
