The most commercially successful version of "Blowin' in the Wind" was recorded by folk music trio Peter, Paul and Mary, who released the song in June 1963, three weeks after The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan was issued. The trio's version, which was used as the title track of their third album, peaked at #2 on the Billboard charts. The group's version also went to number one on the Middle-Road charts for five weeks.

Lyrics:
How many roads must a man walk down
Before they call him a man?
How many seas must a white dove sail
Before she sleeps in the sand?
How many times must the cannonballs fly
Before they're forever banned?
The answer, my friend, is blowing in the wind
The answer is blowing in the wind.
How many years must a mountain exist
Before it is washed to the sea?
How many years can some people exist
Before they're allowed to be free?
How many times can a man turn his head
and pretend that he just doesn't see?
The answer, my friend, is blowing in the wind
The answer is blowing in the wind.
How many times must a man look up
Before he can see the sky?
How many ears must one man have
Before he can hear people cry?
How many deaths will it take till he knows
That too many people have died?
The answer, my friend, is blowing in the wind
The answer is blowing in the wind.
Some years ago I got to watch PP&M. Mary was quite ill. She sat in a chair but her voice was still very strong. My wife wanted to leave early but I refused. I said I came here to listen to them play Blowin In The Wind and I won't leave until I hear them sing Blowin In The Wind.
This music is what kept the humanity of life alive.
I´m 74 and feel like crying when I listen to them.
I'm 62, and I do still cry when I listen to those songs sung with such heart and emotion.
I cried with it when I was a teen and I still do at 49, it's a powerful song!
Здоровья Вам и еще много лет наслаждаться этой музыкой!
Im listening Apr 2021 & we need love & peace and I cry whenever i hear this. Brings back so many happier memories.
I'm 76...
One of the most emotional performances. Rest in peace Mary.
is it strange that I a 16year old would rather listen to Peter Paul and Mary than today's music?
Nope. I was the same way in the 90s when I was 16. I'd like to think you're in good company. ;)
not at all..ive always listened to music from the 60's 70s, i was born in 78, and i like music from now, but sometimes, its all a bit samey and all about money and what you got, can be a bit shallow sometimes, i like to go back and have a change for a bit. then i flip back again. ive found how many songs have been done in more recent times, are actually from the 60's and 70s, just been re done..somebody to love for instance was by jefferson airplane in the 60s..then boogie pimps did it again..in fact the 60s version is pretty much the same as the re hashed one. x theres some good music out there you may not have realised if you didnt just go and check it out. xx
No dear, consider yourself very blessed. :-))
Shit, I'm 15 and in the same situation 😂.... except for Lana Del Rey, cause she's awesome
Riley Summers No. I was also listening to PPM at your age.
I'm eternally amazed that Bob was only 21 when he wrote this timeless masterpiece, and he wrote the song in 15 minutes. 200 years from now people will still be listening to it.
Just mind boggling.!!!
He got the Nobel prize not for nothing!
Indeed. It's a deeply profound song - especially considering it's simplicity.
I think the Bee gees did it before Dylan
@@beyondtheletters1874 Dylan wrote the song, no one could cover it before Bob created it.
Am 70 years old now, Mary has gone & i think Peter, but this is some of the greatest music that is part of the western worlds history & will live & never be forgotten for generations to come.
Bob Harrison: Peter (81) and Paul (82) are still with us. R.I.P. Mary Travers!
EXTRAORDINAIRE ET ETERNEL
I like that everyone is enjoying the moment instead of recording it 😄
I couldn't stop tearing......when you're from that era (I'm 69), & you feel the lyrics & music through those heavenly embedded harmonies, you can't hold back tears thinking about what we have all been going through & how we're still trying to be united & stay safe. God Bless us. I love Peter, Paul & Mary - I loved how the audience joined in the chorus. Thank you for posting & sharing.
At 64, I agree with you 100%
77 here
65. I remember when this came out, and even at age 6 I knew how important the message and song was - and still is. And I cry every time I hear it.
Totally agree. I met Mary, not long before she passed away, at a college commencement where a relative of hers was graduating. She was bloated and looked nothing like the Mary we all lived in the 60s. I Lmost felt like crying!
Im 64, I have loved these guys for decades.. I was privileged to see them live in concert..
there is nothing more beautiful then a crowd singing in harmony
I was born in 1951.
I learned about Peter, Paul and Mary because of my older sister , Linda.
I'm glad that so many of you younger people know and love them too.
Peace, hope , joy and love to all you special fol
AMEN !!!!!!!!

WISEST WORDS EVER SPOKEN !!!
PLEASE SEND THIS MESSAGE FORWARD TO FUTURE GENERATIONS !!!
GOD BLESS *** P.P.M.
Im 70 & it was one of the forst spngs I learnt to play on my guitar. I still cry wnen I hear it today.
I think Bob was happy to hear their version. R.I.P MARY.
Nothing but the best! This was music for my generation!
What beautiful voices they have. Their message holds true today in Ukraine 🇺🇦.
As well as many other countries that live under oppression.
This is only one timeless song by Bob Dylan that is still relevant today; check out "Masters of War", "With God On Our Side" or Chimes of Freedom". They could have been written yesterday instead of the early sixties.
did this not hold true when ukraine was bombing their own people since 2014 ???
Or does it only hold true when the media sprew their story to you ?
@@su-rv2uq well said
The country most of which lives under oppression is the United States of America. Russia is trying to save Ukraine women from being Human Sex Trafficked to the United States.
I miss Mary so much. Peter, Paul and Mary's music have been and still are very therapeutic in helping me with my anxiety disorder.
Me too!
❤❤❤
@@tylerrawson21 ❤❤❤
Me too am listening to this music now and it just seems to be what lifts me up anytime I wish more people would listen maybe there wouldn't be so much hatred
My God, Mary was beautiful.
I am 23 and I love this song ,we are so in need of compassion love and peace today !!!!!!
More now than ever, right?
Im 66 n still love it
You have no idea how much I need to pass in over my music need compassion
I’m 78 and saw them sing it in San Fransisco over 50 years ago. Every bit as good and meaningful today
Yes!🙏
Humanity is so brutal and cruel life is suffering it comes to everyone it's how you deal with it . Life is brutal period, especially in this era it's heavy on everyone's minds but you never stop loving each other period God is all love .
These songs will never die because they speak of universal love.

The world owes them a Peace Nobel Prize
@@ho789jack9 Well it is one reason Bob Dylan did receive a Nobel Prize.
Thank P. P & M! I always miss you. Thank you so much.
Learnt this in primary school cried even then
Such a difference between them and the destructive music of today.
One of so many powerfully beautiful songs of Peter, Paul, and Mary. What a great time to have grown up! P,P,&M, Simon and Garfunkel, Moody Blues, and so many more. My son loves the music of my generation. It's ageless.
May Mary Travers Rest in peace 1936-2009
I listened to them as a teenager. It still brings a tear to my eye. They tried. We've accomplished so little.
I don't think we'll ever accomplish shit.
@@sha11235here in 2024, now Ukraine and Isreal and Iraq! Will it ever stop?
I’m love how they let the audience sing the chorus
bob Dylan may have wrote it and did it 1st, but peter, paul, & mary perfected it. perhaps the greatest anti-war, peace song ever composed. I grew up in the viet nam war era and was just a little too young to have been drafted at that time. but this song should be played every time two world leaders ever even consider going to war again. thank you bob and rest well mary. you will never be forgotten
The answer is blowin' in the wind means we will find the answer. So it's a matter of interpretation and, frankly, I think Bobby was probably right and legitimate in not giving a specific interpretation." Dylan's own version of the song appeared on his second album, the 'Freewheelin' Bob Dylan,' released in May 1963.
richard galerani artistas tributo Bob dyland
Great words Richard !
Well said.
I hear your heart.
richard galerani, I was under the impression it was a song about Civil Rights.
i agree with everything you said ,except . wrote instead of written. buy a dictionary, my friend.
Alas, I only saw them live after Mary passed away when it was just Peter and Paul. I would hsve loved to see them together.
A memorable song sung by this group asking such ponderable questions which can never really be answered.
"And how many deaths will it takes till he knows that too many people hva died" and then cut away to the woman wiping away tears, it doesnt get more powerful than that. Glad i got to see them once, they were a powerful force in folk music, RIP Mary
yes I was thrilled to be able to see them in concert many years ago. an experience I'll never forget.
I heard them before I moved back to Germany 1989 in Waterloo Village in NJ ! Unforgettable!
Have you seen their Christmas concert?
There’s a shot of the choir singing.
An older African-american gentleman is standing behind a younger white woman.
The younger white woman is happily singing along, there’s a single tear going down the face of the African-american gentleman’s face, “i remember it all like it happened yesterday.”
It is still a very powerful song. In the 60's we had a lot of tension in the U.S. Today in 2021 we still have a lot of tension in the U.S. Maybe we should remember our past so we do not repeat it. A great song with a lot of meaning performed by the wonderful PETER, PAUL AND MARY. The people of the U.S. needs to listen to this song in today's world.
It is 18th May 2020 at the point of writing, this song still move my heart ... and always will!!!! Thank you so much Peter, Paul & Mary! Hope Mary in heaven still watching over, knowing how beautiful her music had warmed our hearts!!! 👍❤👍
I like this version of Blowing in The Wind.
Beautiful and so true. Thank you.
Where have all the flowers gone? "The answer my friend is blowing in the wind. The answer is blowing in the wind"
I recall being around 10 or 11 years old and this song was everywhere and PPM on the radio all the time ( in the UK) and just staring along with the camera men at Mary. But at that age I didnt know why, she is mesmericaly beautiful and its not surprising seeing she and they spent lives trying to improve things. I dont think I have ever seen a more beautiful face in my 70 years. Yes the song is timeless but she and they possess this song and utterly captivate any audience.
I think her beauty entrances audiences into a special vibe and people just stare in awe at Divine grace - singing about peace on earth.
I prefer the original but my God this is special.
RIP ms Travers - Politics and leaders were different then and its the 59th anniversary of JfKs murder by cia and the antiwar movement is dead
This song is so appropriate in this terrible world nowadays...where the solution to the problems are still blowing in the wind😪
"THE ANSWER IS LOVE AND COMPASSION AND JUSTICE AND EQUALITY AND STILL PEACE AND ALL OF US WORKING FOR THESE THINGS TOGETHER AND GOD BLESS YOU ! " - Mary Travers .
God Bless You...Mary Travers..so beautiful!!!
RIP Mary Travers. You may be gone but your never forgotten. I absolutely love this video and the harmony of the audience. It’s so sad that we are still asking these questions and they are blowing in the wind.
i was fortunate enough to sing this song with peter on 7/13/13 at the oregon country fair. i've never seen a more heartfelt response from performers and audience alike. i'm 47 years old, my mom, who is in her late 60's was introduced to peter, paul and mary by her parents several years before i was born. timeless talent, thanks peter, for providing this highlight to my summer.
Wow! Lucky you!
Real music with real meaning. Not my decade but just beautiful, just beautiful.

Oh my, just happened upon this just now....oh the memories.....
There will never be another group like them, or songs like “Puff” or “Blowing in the Wind”
as you can see, they are never forgotten! Thank you for putting this on....brought back
Lovely memories!!’❤️❤️❤️
Hello Jane
The best version ever!!! God bless You!
Ive searched for the COVER bands doing these songs, there are many ...but ive now realized THEY CANT cover these songs like Peter Paul and Mary did it! Nonody compares. ❤
I'd like to see folk re-emerge as a force in music today. I know it has a lot of fans, but it seems to get buried beneath sub-par pop offerings. Maybe the days of Peter, Paul, Mary, Bob, Joni, and Joan are gone but not forgotten.
Nicely stated. Fully ageee
Hi, George. I have two original folk songs debuting later this year that I think you will like. Subscribe to my TH-cam channel to get alerts as to when you will be able to ac cess the songs for listening. Thanks! Take care.
At the age of 80, Bob Dylan embarked on his latest tour and I was blessed to be at one of his sold out shows at the Beacon Theater in NYC last month. He looks and sounds great.
@@carlygrayson956 That's good to know. My cousin saw him a few years ago and said he could no longer sing too well.
Folk punk is a subgenre of both folk and punk that is starting to gain popularity with a lot of teens. I think it's only time we see a real folk resurgence.
Legends!!! Such a special trio. The world is a better place because of Peter, Paul and Mary,
Why am I crying?
How sad that the youngsters of this generation don't have the music - and the lyrics - that we had...
R I P Mary. I will never tire of this song or any by PP&M for that matter.
By far, the most meaningful song ever written. It is just so sad that we will never be able to answer any of these questions.
Glorious music from a weird and chaotic era. Could our country have continued without the antidote of this lovely hippie music?
This isn't hippie music; Bob Dylan wrote it in 1962, long before hippies came to be. The song became an anthem of the civil rights movement.
@@carlygrayson956 Okay. You have no idea what hippies are about. That’s fine.

My late stepdad introduced me as a child to PPM through his wonderful record collection when he married my mom in 1971.When he passed in 2010,we all sang this at his burial service at his prearranged request...
