Back in 1951, I worked as a tire building machine mechanic. it was strictly a manual operation and the tire builders were paid based on the number of tires they put together. It was grueling hard work and the heat required them to take salt tablets, they sweated so much. The area where they cooked the tires had airplane propellers in the ceiling, it was so hot to work in. We were all happy to have our jobs and earn a good paycheck each week. The human body can do a lot of hard things. The factory moved to where labor was cheaper and eventually they were replaced with automation. Th build shown in the video was different than the way tires were put together.

In '62 I worked building heavy service tires at Goodyear. There was - even at that time - a lot of similarities in the skills being used here. I quite liked the work, the people I worked with, and the pay was quite good, but after one year I decided to go back to school - a decision I never regretted.

Do they recycle rubber materials, including tires?
They grind them up and make a rubber asphalt to coat the freeway's in Arizona,it is so much smoother and quiet than regular road's

In the USA the workers would be wearing ear & eye protection gloves with arm guards and steel toed boots. They would be making 20 dollars or more an hour. That's why so few tires are made in the US.
I retired from tire manufacturing we make more than 20.00 dollars per hour and don't have enough space in the warehouse to store them.

I worked for Goodyear as a homebuilder for 20 years, and everything you said is true...It's like working in a Concentration camp..

How long before you will see the retread laying on the highway? Retreads are probably great for intown driving but not so much for highway driving.

Most of those are from semis.
Where are you from & do you not get out?? Big trucks use recaps year round, & they are used for highway use all the time.
The problem with this analysis is you are seeing pieces from new AND retreaded tires (which look just alike superficially) at highway speeds as you drive by, but incorrectly conclude that all are retreads.
