The video being sped up 2x makes it look more haphazard.
Have you ever tried cutting rubber that thick? It's easy with any sharp blade. As long as it's close enough to sharp.
pretty sure that was a chisal bit for an air hammer. just slightly modified / sharpened.
Unable to see the finished repair at the very end because of the stupid ads for the next suggested video, Thanks uboob for ruining the video. That is such hard work. Just imagine what this man could get accomplished in a properly tooled shop with good equipment. Impressive, most Impressive.

I appreciate how the guy works! However I wouldn't trust a tire without the cords. And BTW - I had a side puncture once, not a big one. Yet - nobody agreed to fix it - they explained me that it was against the safety regulations of the ministry of the transportation. Seems they are right.

This is an earthmoving tyre, never subject to high speed. So while not ideal there is still a lot of life left in a very expensive tyre. This is often done in the western world as well. Done on truck tyres as well. Generally used on trailers however.
Informative post. I did wonder how reliable patched tires are for heavy equipment. But you helped me understand that it depends a lot on how the tire is used. Thanks.
With a good portion of the strength of the side wall removed it would be interesting see how long that patch will last.

This video is not for an audience in countries where you can just go out and buy a new tire when needed. Its purpose is to educate others in similar situations on how to extend the life of a very costly tire. They are very resourceful and aware that a repaired tire is less reliable than a new one.
The problem is, that you can buy machines in countries like Pakistan, wich are using these tires.
Seems, they have the money buying these machines, but no money, maintaining them the correct way.
The result is, that a lot of people get killed by failed machines and stupid operators.
@@horstmuller7512 That is not true. What evidence do you have that a lot of people are getting killed? You claim they have money to buy machines but not to maintain. They don't have the money to buy them either. Have you ever seen their machines? They are 30-50 year old leftovers from America! They are just starting in their industrial revolution. Give them a break, their 100 years behind the western world. They'll catch up. Also, the tire is perfectly safe. We do these kinds of repairs in America all the time with no problems.

@magnusjonasson1987 For sure that's not his first repair. He is fixing the same tire ever other day!
For an earth mover? I can see this repair lasting a long time.
Well it probably has a big, thick tube in it when mounted, I doubt it would blow out...if something happened to gouge it again in that exact spot, I suspect it would be weaker than the surrounding area and damage again more easily, but the odds of that are probably small...

Love watching these videos. Just wondering, would it be possible to have a clamp on steel plate, front and back, into which you could inject molten rubber? You could place steel or kevlar matting to overlap the existing sidewall structure, then inject above and below through the steel clamped structure (thinking like a large sandwich press).
Surely this would be stronger than multiple small pieces of thin rubber? And potentially a lot cheaper for nations of lesser income..??
Obviously I know very little about vulcanising, so this is meant as a question, and not a distraction from the works performed here.
