It looks like the vegetation is reclaiming the land. Thank you for this!

It basically went from a lake to a river

Yep. Back to the way nature intended it.

@@rodneybrocke It may be natural, but to ignore the economic impact that the lakes brought to this area through park fees, support of fishing/hunting, property taxes, etc. is, well - ignorant. I don't want it to stay "back to nature".

It was a river. People blocked it. It unblocked itself.

These dams are over 100 years old. They provided a eco system for fish, ducks, and a multitude of other wildlife. Destroy the lakes and you just destroyed millions of acres of habitat.

Are they planning on leaving it as-is for the river to reclaim the land? The dams do much damage to the ecosystem. The breach of the dam was a blessing in disguise.

No, thankfully the dams will be rebuilt. They're hoping all 4 lakes will start to fill again by 2026. They've already completed temporary repairs to the Tobacco River Spillway on the Edenville Dam. The spillway was reworked to restore flow to the downstream portion of the Tobacco River. Work on the Edenville spillway should be getting underway in the next month or so to restore flow to the original channel and away from the breached embankment so it can be filled in. Not sure when work will start at Sanford dam. Eventually the original spillway Tainter gates on all 4 dams will be replaced with increased flow capacity Crest Gates and modern emergency spillways will be added to help prevent another breach. There's a lot more specifics available from the dams' new owners, the Four Lakes Task Force. I'm just hitting the most visible changes that will occur.

Nope, you are incorrect about the ecosystem. A lot of useful habitat was lost and needs to be re-established. Ask any local biologist or DNR/EGLE officer.

@@rjgoniea So who will pay for this, you'd have to increase taxes in the entire state. Bad deal for 99.9%.

The ecosystem was destroyed when the lakes disappeared. They need to rebuilt.
