    I bet what you are seeing with the "erosion" around the dam and power-plant is really that the dam has been de-watered and that (a) the soil is now drying out (and shrinking) but also (b) now that there is no hydro-static pressure (i.e. the weight of water "pushing in") on the banks, they are now just falling away. They had a similar issue in South-western Florida a couple of years ago when a hurricane forced all the water out of canals, and all sorts of seawalls and embankments failed because there was no hydro-static pressure holding them up. I'm guessing that the Sanford Dam is going to be a complete loss and not feasible to rebuild, especially as it falls apart. Sorry for everything you're having to go through.

    I remember when Anderson Cooper started out on "Channel One", a news program in schools in the 90s. His excellent work got him where he is today, a household name in reporting. You are doing great work. And I really enjoy your occasional humor you sprinkle throughout your videos w/o detracting from your main focus. Your count of times you said "subscribers" in the other vid and the fatality in this vid.

    Jordan, I have been watching all of your videos and updates. I live in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada. I can't believe that from the beginning there was very little news coverage about this devastation besides local news in Michigan. Usually our Canadian news channels always cover all natural disasters that take place in U.S.A and Canada but didn't have very much coverage on this even though Michigan borders Ontario. Very disappointed by this. However I have to commend you on your coverage of the original situation and the aftermath. Give up the good work Sir. I'm also so happy and surprised there were not deaths or serious injuries initially. So many people's lives, properties have been changed forever. So happy you are getting the news and updates out there and not letting the current situation be forgotten and pushed under the rug. You do really deserve some type of recognition for your dedication to keeping others informed. I subscribe, like and share your vids as much as I can. Once again,keep them coming. Have Great Day!

      How long do you think?

    • @kalrobbins2811
      @kalrobbins2811 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Payton77777 I have no idea. Litigation and lawsuits will probably take years to resolve. After that, it may be another year, 18 months to rebuild the dam, then a year to flood the lake. I'm guessing an easy 8-10 years. I've heard Edenville dam may not be rebuilt, which means Wixom Lake will remain drained. That's devastating to property owners. Then I understand (and I could be wrong) if the Sanford dam is rebuilt, it may not be used as a hydroelectric facility (which could play a factor in getting it rebuilt sooner). It's anyone's guess. I feel bad for the communities around Sanford and Wixom Lakes. One day a thriving community and livelihood, the next day, gone!

    Go snag a raft made of floaty toys and paddle down to give an on the water view, you can probably tow yourself around with the drone. Jordan from the Midland Daily News, that sounds like the crew to join :) I would imagine the biggest hurdle to jump for repairing the spillway and then the dam is the environmental boards, local govt boards staffed with folks who aren't engineers.

    you CLEARLY were touching LOOSE charcoal on the tree stump. That would not of lasted loose on the tree stump, with 90 years of flowing water, fish, and then the flow from the flood. That is fresh charcoal from someone trying to start a FIRE. Someone coming in, a group, having a little get together and party and burning that big tree stump as their 'bon fire' would GREATLY reduce the mass of the tree stump and make it easier to remove, if it needed to be removed at all and did not burn up. That, would be a SERVICE of people helping to clean. I suggest to those wanting to do this, use KEROSENE (NOT gasoline), diesel if you can't find kero, soak it in, light it. It won't go WOOSH.... it will just start to burn... once its going, hit the hot coals of wood with a leaf blower this will be like a black smith forge and you'll heat up a lot more of the stump and get it hot and burning, this might make a critical mass and burn the whole thing up. Ok to leave it burn, its not like anything is going to catch on fire. It might burn for days. If you want to pick up any left over charcoal and take it home you can bury it in your garden, you just made biochar. Its a win win win all the way around. Yes, I have a chemistry background and one of my expertise areas is high temperature combustion of organics. Help the clean up, pick up some stuff each time and take it with you. Even a hand full (with 2 hands) is enough, every bit helps. As far as filming the cemetery, there is nothing wrong with that. In fact, if you showed the grave stones in a mess people would of came quicker to fix it up and make it respectable, please be sure to SHOW OFF the excellent clean up work anonymous volunteers probably did to make the final resting place more acceptable. NOTHING WRONG WITH IT.

    Are the falls going to be blocked off to stop the flow of fresh water? From what I've read in comments the falls are a product of the lake draining and didnt exist prior to the floods. It is so unreal watching these videos how much the landscape changed as a result of the floods.

    Jordan, the cemetery is part of the town. It's condition and rehab is just as important as the rest you show. I mean, you filmed some of the "private" homes in the town. So I'm not understanding what the issue is.

      I only film peoples houses close up that want them to be shown. I do not believe it is my place to film a cemetery where loved ones are buried and share this around the world. Some people may be okay with this but others will not. Certain people have asked for pictures of it that have had loved ones buried there and I have kept them updated. I hope you understand. You can see portions of the cemetery way off in the distance in some of the drone videos if you are really curious.

    Jordan, for 'a hobby' you are just nailing it! I have seen far inferior reporting by people getting paid and called 'professionals'. I find your follow up videos really solemn when viewing further erosion and the additional damage that is starting to occur. It's a bit like visiting and old friend who has been in a serious accident and they aren't quite 'out of the woods' just yet.
    If I were you I would give some serious thought to exploiting your talent. Copy righting is a great idea.
