      @@KeepingFishSimple Maybe set a camera up at a good angle, back away and record the whole thing. Chop footage later.
      Also, tetras certainly see motion outside of the tank. Your results might even be better breeding-wise with less outside disturbance.

    nice video. I have a couple of suggestions that might be useful for you. You can cut the mesh a little bit bigger and place it higher in the container. Maybe a little over half of the high. You place two rocks on the bottom the sustain the mesh and the smaller rocks on top of it the hold it down, as the mesh will be a bit bigger and you have to push it down, the fishes can't go underneath. And being a little higher the eggs would be safe faster. The other suggestion is to feed the fry. You can get a high protein food and crush it to became a sort of flour texture. I use it to feed fry since day one and they nibble it. You should also put a lot of plants from a mature tank in the fry container, so you will have a lot of micro organisms for the fry to eat and feel safe. Sorry for my lousy English.

    Dean off aquarium co op used a mesh basket with foam fill in the lip of it to help it float. if you're using a tote tub per say you just put the adults in the basket and the eggs will go through the wholes in the mesh basket. Can be used for livebearers too.

  • @Andreas-gh6is
    @Andreas-gh6is 4 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    From other fish breeding youtubers I think that sometimes it takes two males to entice a female to spawn. Maybe you can tie down the moss a little closer to the mesh, in order to make the falling distance smaller for the eggs? I've also thought about designing a 3d-printed spawning grid that is rigid and has bigger gaps (still "parent safe" though).

    The grid works. But it has to fit well. I 3d print mine. Ratio I had best luck with is not 2 females to 1 male but just the opposite. 2 males, one fat female and it worked fine. Same ratio works for Cardinal tetras too. Edited to add: After the trio spawns, remove them as usual, then put another trio in the same setup. The grid prevents predation on the first batch of eggs and the second trio just adds more. Then do it once more for the third day (no more). That maximizes the number of fry to raise as one "batch".

  • @ikashibimauler
    @ikashibimauler 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    You should put that peat in a mesh bag like the one you can use to wash baby brine shrimp. I mean even a burlap bag would do the trick. You can then have better access to the fish and eggs. Also you can move the bag to a new tank to condition it after this one is done. I think the commercial farms only put 1 single pair in each container to cut down on the egg eating bystanders.

    Hay, love your videos ,really helpful to a newbie.
    I have lots of Bristlenose im trying to breed and just got a bunch of neons and a couple of Amber tetras for dither fish, and did a bit of a cold water change during a storm a couple of days ago and last night i noticed an Amber and a couple of neons looking chubby and tonight it looks like I have eggs scattered along the bottom of the tank on the glass. The water is fast moving for the plecos and no substrate or many plants yet. They seem kinda spread out and sort of on their own with just a couple of neons hanging out nearby but not really looking after them. Im not sure if I should remove them or leave them be. I wasnt expecting the tetras to breed so fast without anywhere appropriate to lay their eggs. Its a shame it wasnt the plecos like I'd planned and hopefully they wont eat the fry but so far the eggs havnt been eaten by anyone, Yet

    so today i witnessed my neon tetras spawning today. it was pretty cool watching the lil female throw he eggs all over my java fern roots and watch about half of them drift away, and oh bou did the spawning cause a feeding frenzy to incur amongst my corydoras almost instantlg and my dwarf gourami went total hunter mode snooping for eggs

  • @Chaofactor

    There are certainly more profitable fish to breed out there... Nonetheless, it's a popular schooling fish so hopefully people buy them in schools. Dunno what route you're going through to sell them, but certainly suggestive-sell them that way. They're hardwired for it, lone tetras don't last long at all.
    But I hope to see the video after this, where you tell how many you get out of this method, vs the 15-20 from the last method. Interesting stuff.

  • @rufufuwho

    what if you replace the white mesh with green mesh and without the moss. would it trick the neons that the green coloured mesh is the *moss*? would it work? i saw some footage where zebra danios are bred in that similar manner. i would definitely reduce the distance for the eggs to travel to the bottom if spawning occurs on the mesh.

    So watching my male and female (I'm guessing as she's fatter with a blue curve), and the male is definitely trying to entice the female to come over the moss, but nothing for the last 2 hrs, in the breeding tank. Struggling here to get the pH lower than the main tank of 7.5. Got Coco peat in the breeding tank (Peat Moss not available here in the UK), Almond leaf in there and even tested the rainwater, but it will not drop from the 7.5. Any other suggestions on how to reduce this pH, without chemicals? Tried everything. Cheers
