I'm kinda new to octopath and started with the first one available on Steam, I have gotten mostly past every character's final chapter (except Primrose and Alfyn) and am a bit confused by the fight that happened in the end... Is that new or in the same game hidden behind a side quest?
Decisive Battle I: Alright, this one is good. Decisive Battle II: HOLY SH--!! This is ripping!! Battle At Journey's End: Speaaaaaking of dramatic and epic! Galdera phase 1: Damn, if the music is quite epic, *How hard the boss it could be?* Galdera phase 2: This is it! AN AWESOME THEME FOR AN EPIC FINAL BOSS!! Fun fact: When Decisive Battle II kicks in *I DON'T HESITATE IN VOLUME UP MAX THE GAME*
I'm really glad to see so many people acknowledge how amazing the boss battles hype up the battles and the game itself. It blew me away, especially the 2nd battle rendition. And the bosses are not easy, the challenge fits well with the music so damn well especially when things get to a half way point. I was breaking out in a sweat at that point.
Ok. Two things. First, the character intros also can loop into They who govern reason, which unfortunately doesn't play in such a manner, but it will work. Also, Moment of Truth is looped into Daughter of the Dark God much better as Pardis III's 3rd phase in Champions of the Continent.
Also honorable mention to Octopath Traveler Champions of the Continent (that one spinoff that most likely won't leave Japan). Not only they apply this same formula but for the villains. Even if they can't exchange themes like the preludes of the main characters, they go on another route by making a piece that can seamlessly transition between the main/first phase theme, the dungeon theme, the prelude theme, and the second phase theme, even if they didn't need to do more than the last two transitions. Edit: Stay tuned these year. Maybe it will happen.
Octopath est un des meilleurs jeux de rôle auquel j’ai joué depuis très longtemps. Le look est fantastique, la musique reste prise dans la tête et les 8 histoires personnelles a été une très bonne idée. Pour la musique de boss, c’est phénoménal, chaque fois que le dialogue finissait les frissons commençaient. Bravo!
as a 90's gamer i approve "life and die by battle music" my first game with great music is chrono trigger. and lately i found out that they have 1 battle music that they didn't use. 2:31 is my exact expression first time hearing that music. this octopath is classic jrpg with marvelous music transition ever.
You say "unused Chrono Trigger battle music" and it immediately pops up in my head! ...Which reminds me, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 brought on the Chrono Trigger composer, so my (currently upcoming) video on the XC3 soundtrack mentions him a bunch.

Ah yes this was also the case in Parasite Eve where Eve's theme improves based on her evolution, or Ultimate Being's theme changes depending on boss phase. (BTW, that game has very good music if anyone interested, I recommend "Influence of Deep" )
I never would have guest for freedom+decisive battle II possess such a good transition, unfortunately I have yet to find a video which offers both of them.
The Music in this game is outstanding, supporting the story where it can. The story is more connected than most people give the game credit for, sadly it didn't grow as much commertialy as i wanted it to.
@@NicD Kinda, yes. But compared to real heavy hitters Octopath is still just the new kid in town. Most people probably just bought and never played it or player it a little (due to the generated media-hype). Conversations around the game died of quickly (as it did for Bravely Default 2 i would say). Just a symptome of the modern gaming-landscape. I iust hope the studios next project gets some love as well. A game that's not a live-service has a short shelf-life.
On the plus side, it has a mobile sequel (more live-service?), its artstyle is transferring to more games, and people are still making videos about it. 😉
@@NicD Yeah, i'm looking forward to its western release actually. That 2D-HD has made some kind of splash is also very nice. LiveALive and Triangle Strategy come to mind. Let's hope that there are going to be a lot of memorable and great music-tracks as well :)
I love this game, but I do think they could have done more to make the characters feel involved in eachothers stories somehow. Frankly, the travel banter segments after a story event or when you entered a tavern were one of my favourite parts of the whole game, and I wish it had more things added like it. Really hoping for a sequel of sorts that focuses even more on those elements. Preferably something that isnt stained by the inclusion of gacha mechanics or the likes...

Lemme check... Oh that's a soundtrack I bought! So the source files were top-notch. I'd think they'd be equal quality to what you can hear elsewhere on TH-cam, though, but maybe what little audio mixing I do make them pop better on your sound system. Or maybe it's the volume contrast, e.g. when I talk: subjective loudness is a big factor.

Decisive Battle II is SO hype. I was sad every time DB I played instead, though it does have a sick piano solo midway through

I can’t help but imagine that the camera panning up to the true final boss was inspired by Final Fantasy VI.
