Just a suggestion, Could you do a video showing how to connect LIDAR for 360 coverage for obstacle avoidance and sonar for landing? I am sure you would get a ton of views on this setup.
@@josegante6982 Not really, there are lots of guides out there on setting up obstacle avoidance... a 360 rotating sensor is more complicated but an array of sensors covering 360 is pretty easy. Wire them up using I2c or CAN and you can add as many as you want

Thanks for the video.I had a doubt actually.I was working on building an autonomous terrain following drone using pixhawk.For the terrain following application i am using a tf mini lidar.I will most probably be using the serial mode to interface both ie the pixhawk and the lidar.But the problem i am facing is that during the intial set up using mission planner,it asks you what type of sonar model is attached and tf mini is not in the options available and because of that i am stuck. Can you please guide me on what to do to solve this problem.
Thanks for this series Lee. Although I'm using a Pixhawk 2.4.6, the fixed wing aspect is what I like seeing. I'm currently building a Majestic Major with a 52FS which will be fitted with Airspeed sensor, Lidar (Just ordered this one!) and any other add-ons I see as being an advantage in Mission planning.

hey 360. iv been reading about connectin accesories to cube, some say that no extra stuff should be powered from the board. In Benewace tf mini manual it states that max peak current fo TFmini is 800mA. Is it safe to power the unit from the cube or should i use a bec for power ? I have my unit connected to serial2 per your video. thanks :)
I've not added one to a cube but a pal of mine uses them like that all the time with no problem. I'd follow the advice in the latest version of the Ardupilot Wiki.. Best of luck!
@@Painless360 Okay, i would leave it as it is, im happy with that power draw from the board.. but.. for some reason both of my external compasses are malfunctioning when lidar is connected so i thought to start troubbleshooting from Lidar powersource causing possible interference with compass.? thank you, we all need good luck with this hobby :D Keep on the good work :)
Some information that might help other users. First the new units use the pinout as described in the documentation and it differs from the video and second you must put the lidar into Pixmode and to do that you need to get the app from Benewake connect it up and then send the command :42 57 02 00 00 00 04 06 don't forget to click ENTER after the input is finished. This puts the unit into Pixmode and as long as your tx and rx is right it should work. Oh and there won't be any sonarvoltage as its serial not analog

I'm not too worried about this as a photo in the article shows exactly this output but I'm curious to knw if you get a voltage value showing in the cube setup? Cheers again

+Don Stovner I'm not planning to. I'd get in touch with the vendor and get them to provide a manual or instructions, that's why I recommend 3DXR, those guys are great at helping after the sale. The setup is in the Ardupilot docs too but they dont list the wiring fir all the diffetent types. I've only played with this LIDAR model here and the manual was excellent. Best of luck

Help, This is just a question not related to your fine videos but I have a question i can't find an answer to anywhere so who better than You. I have a a Flysky FS-T6 radio and have already ordered my PixHawk4 2.4.8 and according to the radio i have it uses an AFHDS receiver and can't find any information on weather or not i can use it with the new Pixhawk It's a new radio and hate to junk it but i also have a Spektrum 7 transmitter i could use. Anyway what would you suggest easy to wire AFHDS or just go with the spektrum ? what would be the very best receiver to buy for the Pixhawk. Thanks in advance. You sure make things better for many of us.
Sounds like you are new to all of this - see the PixHawk series where we cover connections and setup. You are getting confused as you're confusing the language the radio and receiver in the model use with the one that the receiver uses to talk to the flight controller. Flight controllers understand things like PPM, PWM, S-Bus and others, see the videos in the 'Introduction to Radio Control' series on the channel for more basics. Hope they help.

Painless360 Thanks for your quick reply. The Lidar TFMini has a very narrow FOV, around 2.5° and can take around 100 measurements per second, ie 100Hz. A continuous servo has around 1Hz of frequency and will turn the TFMini on the tope of the quadcopter.
Hey! Great video series :) 1+ subscriber I had a question regarding a Lidar setup on a mutirotor. Do you know if you could use different lidar sensors on a single setup for a Pixhawk 2.1 unmanned vehicle? Like using the more expensive Lidar Lite V3 (40m range) on the nose of the drone (forward scanning) for the additional range and the cheaper Benewake TFMINI Micro LIDAR Module (12m range) on the bottom of the drone for auto landing where long range isn't that necessary. Hey dude I can help you and perhaps give you a better idea. My multirotor has 6 sided obstacle avoidance. I am using an RP-LIDAR A2 (scans 360°) and 2 benewake TF Minis. I used the TF Minis with i2c and I gave the rplidar a serial port. I even have a forum about this on Ardupilot. If you want to refer to it you can. discuss.ardupilot.org/t/pixhawk-2-1-or-pixhawk-4/34689 I suggest this but if you want you can give your main lidar a serial port and put the TF Minis on i2c In the forum there is a link. If you open that link it will show you how to connect and use a TF mini with pixhawk via Arduino via i2c

hey painless, ive got a taranis qx7 that I have bound to a x4rsb on EULBT software that took me ages to figure out. I had all channels working but now for some reason everything has disappeared, ive checked all connections on the receiver and fc and theyre all ok. I have decided it must be some sort of output setting on my tx, can you do a video going over all the setting needed for everything to work please? Thanks

As I only have one pixhawk and it’s now inside the plane, I probably won’t get round to do this. Putting it inside a quad copter is actually a lot easier than a plane, and the instructions that come with the lidar are excellent. Best of luck with your build
Ya you never explained any difficulties you had or how to program it or set it up.. how do we know if this even worked for you? How do we know this system didn’t cause any interference with anything else on board

I second this. I'm seriously considering using this lidar on my Pixhawk, but there's no particular info on setting it up for obstacle avoidance.

I've noticed the mini lidars rx and the tx are of 3.3 volts. Will this still work with the cube being of 5 volts ?
If they are rated for 3.3v only then you can't use a 5v supply. You'd have to have a 3.3v from somewhere... best of luck

If it does, it’ll be in the wiki for Cleanflight. See the sonar video I did years ago..
