    I'd just like to say a huge thank you for covering this. I've been a stranger to the channel for a good 18months but am well and truly back. Thanks again for being so current.

    I was just about to buy a pixhawk, I had no idea there was a new one on the way. So it's worth waiting a couple of months to see what you think of it.

      Most of that I'll cover in the series will still be relevant for the existing clone PixHawks about. I'm going to talk about that a little more in the next video.. Happy flying! :D

    Watching and studying with great expectations while experimenting with an F3 wing and Inav and a highly modified CX-20 with APM. Thank you for leading the way in smarter, safer and potentially more useful projects in what I feel
    is one of the greatest hobbies around.

      Thanks Robin, this won't be for everyone but most of what I will cover will also apply to the PixHawk V1 too.. :D

    Also keen to see the here+ rtk setup! You might need to get a surveyor out? I'd also suggest sharing pitot tube (+ quick tune of arspd ratio parameter) and camera trigger setup (mobilexcopter or IR remote seem the way to go) for completeness. Pretty ready for long agricultural mapping missions then!

      +Ronan Taylor-Ware sounds like you know a little bit about this already! Do you have any videos about these things on your channel?

    Hope that you can put your hands on a here+ rtk and a good lidar/height sensor, maybe object avoidance things... would be great for the community, since you are one of the best "educational" content providers in the "hobby" if not the best.
    Keep Rocking

      Will do! I'm planning on talking about the fact that the APMs and PixHawks out there - are clones. That's not helping the price comparison.. For me, I've been a huge supported of the APM for years but sadly that little 8 bit platform feels like it's coming to the end of the road. For basic GPS, there is now iNav running on a modern F3 based £20 FC.. All covered in the next video..

    • @jonsugar
      @jonsugar 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's worth noting that the clones aren't necessarily a bad thing. Take a look at these two videos which compare Gearbests clone with the 3dr original. According to the video maker, the Gearbest seems to be better in some ways. th-cam.com/video/4oBbBMa3M44/w-d-xo.html and th-cam.com/video/ryr29fXja9Q/w-d-xo.html
      If you get a good quality clone of the original pixhawk, then the price differential might be fair if you consider the extra redundancy and Intel Edison connectivity of the Pixhawk 2.1. That might be a better way to think of it... Just my thinking.

    Very happy to see that series on your channel. It would be great if you could possibly point out the similarities and the differences between the different types of Pixhawk 2 and also the GPS.

    Hi Lee, Could you consider looking into ADS-B for collision avoidance with the pixhawk 2. I believe ADS-B receivers are available for the original pixhawk and it would be a great way to demonstrate with mission planner how RC modellers can be active to participate in future legisaltion. Thx

    There are 2 versions in the shop, with and without Edison option. Could you explain the difference (except the price -:) Thank you for the great series you do

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I will be covering that later in the series. The idea is that by adding an Intel Edison to the Edison capable carrier you'll be able to have complementary software running on it providing extra features like collision avoidance. For most pilots they won't need it! :D

    • @amisoftau2659
      @amisoftau2659 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Edison integration is a very neat hardware implementation for a companion computer. Other computers can also be used, and this (I think?) was always (also) possible with the PixHawk. For me the most exciting possibility here is the companion computer's ability to communicate with and control/command the PixHawk. So we can have a suite of "AutoPilot" programs on the companion, in charge of managing the mission (flying the PixHawk), general navigation, collision avoidance, dynamic rerouteing - e.g. the ability to interact with real time manned aircraft positioning data, etc etc. Autonomous operational modes!

    cool, was looking at it for my big hex, although might be just as well leaving the px4 on it, i just like it's got alot off redundincy built in and it's a pixhawk!! do you know if you can get better telemitry radio's for them somthing like dji lightbridge but a bit cheeper.

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The radios I've used that were the easiest to setup were the ones I added to the Nova Pro (see that series). They were the V2 of the 3DR units.. I hope to look at wireless telemetry later in the series..

      @ISOSAILING 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      cool, have a set of 3dr ones thnk there v2 ones, but could never get them to work very well they would only go about 5 yards before they would lose the signal, yet the hobby king ones i have would go alot ferther 50 odd yards or so never did get to the bottom of it.

    I love you videos, very educational. Seems like it was just yesterday that I was watching your series on the APM 2.6 but in fact it's been years. I love how you took the time to respond to some of my comments which helped me out so much on my build. But it's time to replace my old APM 2.6, but it just doesn't compare to the 3DR stuff. I also tried some of the DJI stuff but it just turns my TBS Disco into an insta-flip monster. I'm glad you're taking a look at this one. I think I can squeeze a few more years out of my TBS frame.

      The documentation has kept up with the changes in mission planner, so the wiki and the pages around all of the ardupilot stuff is fantastic The Pixhawk 2.1 series on the channel is showing the latest technology, so that’s probably worth a look as well. Best of luck with the weather, and best of luck with the flying!

    Another great upload thank you. I’m currently using an apm 2.8 and want to upgrade to the hardware your reviewing here. Curious which port on the pixhawk is the same as the extended function interface output ports on the apm like A1 or A2 for analogue sensor interface. If you could let me know id appreciate it. Many thanks

    Please do a video where you show your entire setup to fly. I followed all your videos to set up the regular pixhawk and got my AP quad flying well, but the issues I had with it was the setup and complexity just to fly it. First I needed my regular rc transmitter, then a fpv monitor mounted to the transmitter (or goggles, but I didn't feel comfortable flying with the gimbal with goggles, plus then you cant see the mission planner screen) and then I needed another tablet or computer to run the mission planner software. So basically I was running the 900mhz, 5.8 ghz and 2.4 ghz. Lots of points of failure, and many times the mission planner connection wouldn't like connecting. I tried running a couple different apps to control it on my tablet, one of them was supposed to let video show up, but I couldn't figure out how that input worked. I eventually just shelved it when I bought the mavic. I would really like for it to have some sort of setup like a dji product, one transmitter and once screen that shows the video and overlays the video with all the settings. HD video would be nice but not required. I have looked all over for videos on how the truly professional aerial photographers set up there rigs, because they are running huge dslr's and stuff and somehow controlling all there settings from there screens but I can't figure out how.

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +foxrace0985 if you want to fly a model that has a gimbal and camera attached, most professional pilots actually go to the job in teams of two or three. One is there to actually fly the vehicle using line of sight and mission planner, the second is a cameraman that actually uses the FPV equipment to line up and take the video or still photography. Trying to do all of that yourself is a little bit like trying to juggle..

    I'm having a very hard time finding a good answer about the pixhawk 2.1 cube arming switch...
    I can arm when safety check is complete by holding down on the switch with no problem, but I can't disarm with the switch after that.
    I have set parameters for arming by rudder stick right, throttle min and disarm for rudder stick left, throttle min...and that won't disarm as well.
    I have that last bit to configure, then to the field for ground failsafe test, if that goes well, it's ready for maiden...
    ...but the arming and disarming looks to be the last issue, and I've checked the wiki, the forums, TH-cam, Google, but no answer...just horror stories of very sudden stops...at the ground
    Do you know the answer?

    Hi, I would like to ask you a question. Right now I have arducopter 3.5.4, configuration in x I have the parameter: DISARM_DELAY = 0. so if I stay any time armed in any flight mode, the drone does not disarm. On the other hand, if I practice the following sequence of flight modes: (All this without touching the accelerator, pitch, roll and yaw controls. ONLY TOUCHING THE CHANNELS THAT CONTROL THE MODES) 1st (take off at loiter, initially I manipulate the accelerator channel to raise it to 1500 us, then it stays that way) AUTO (for a while) ____> RTL (once landed I wait 1 second and switch quickly from RTL to AUTO)___> (I wait 1 seconds in auto mode and switch to STABILIZE for 4 seconds) ___> AUTO. There is no problem and this runs well BUT: If I wait more than 1 second once landed after RTL, the drone is disarmed indicating no reason. [it is disarmed in rtl mode, once landed and with the accelerator in the intermediate position] {this did not happen to me in ac 3.2.1} How could I really make the drone not disarm if it is not with my express permission through radio control or other methods in these situations. many thanks

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure, I’d have a look in the wiki for more information. Disarming and turning the props off after a successful landing as part of the return to home routine is standard from what I recall. Best of luck!

    • @autodidactamm7625
      @autodidactamm7625 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      the intresting thing is that in ac 3.2.1 it works well, if you do RTL (wait for a landing) then you can stay in the ground with the motors off during the time you want, finaly if you changue the mode to STABILIZE the copter will take off (of course because you never touch the sticks including the acelerator and it is alwais in the midlle position 1500 us )
      may be if i update to a lower firmware like ac 3.3 "this function" is available

    What is the difference between a flight controller of these "Pixhawk 2 or just Pixhawk" and a flight controller of the genre Omnibus F4?
    Can I use an Omnibus F4 or similar (SP racing F4) in a hexacopter ?!
    Was it a big mistake? And if you really can use it, would it be better to use BetaFlight or Inav?
    You could make a video "F4 FCB Vs Pixhawk". You could build an Exacopter. I really would like to see more of this this year.

Do I have to pull the pixhawk from the craft or is there a way around this ? The gyros are spinning out of control as compass - motor calibration .

      I've also had that happen to me. I turned off the other two compass and it worked. Kind of a shame since the pixhask 2.1 is supposed to be about redundancy. This is MY BIG PROBLEM. Wondering if anyone has a fix. The PID loops dont' seem to work. It flies like "jello" and we can't get it to fly well enoug to even try an autotune. and some of our friends say it so far from a good starting point that it wont' autotune before a good battery runs out. Now for my question, I have a eachine qx95 that ive been flying with no problems. Its all stock with the exceptions of props (HUBSAN). I decided to go flying oneday, and once I started, turned on transmitter and then the quad. As it took off, it began spinning to the right, I did not make any changes to it Pryor to takeoff, checked props which was ok, checked motors they seemed to be ok, changed to a fresh battery, same thing happened, So I can't understand why all of a sudden it wants to spin out of control. Could you help me out on this issue

      Yes the connectors on the pixhawk are different but what about the connectors on the GPS? You can buy a wire kit for the pixhawk 2 so you can use your old auxiliary equipment by just swapping out the wires. This would suggest that the connectors on equipment are the same for old or new. I would presume the firmware/software wouldn't be an issue, so its a good question!

Now using QGroundControl I get a gyro error and it won't ARM and if I change to Ardupilot, install the softwar and try to connect I'm just getting a timeout and it doesn't connect. APM Planner doesn't even recognise the Pixhawk Cube. I'm trying to contact the seller so I can send it back for an exchange or a refund.

      I’ve only used Arducopter and Mission Planner with it. Remember to perform the compass calibration at the launch site and wait for a 3D GPS lock before arming. I’d check what the arming issue is with Mission Planner to help you sort it. It shouldn’t be that hard to sort out, Id delete any devices in Windows that appear when it’s plugged in as this sounds like a Windows driver problem (see the wiki). best of luck!

    i am not getting what actually going wrong,i also search lot on internet and ask some of my friend how used this flight controller before but they are also not getting what actually getting wrong.after searching i think that problem is in radio(avionics rcb 6i) but in mission planner radio calibration going well and all green bar are moving correct (throttle min is 1004 and max is 2004)and while calibration of esc (all at once with pixhawk) then also motor response after 50%throttle.

      Follow these steps:-
      1. Do ESC BY ESC calibration
      Meaning: Calibrate each ESC one by one
      2. Load the pixhawk or apm firmware using an avr bootloader
      Guide: th-cam.com/video/8XOgrrz-K0YW/w-d-xo.htmlatch the video how to do that
      3. Post this on ardupilot forums and ask for help with logs
      If nothing helps then you should consider getting a new flight controller
      Plus, after doing the 1st and 2nd steps, you need to re-calibrate everything again

    • @jonsugar
      @jonsugar 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well the schematics for it have been available here: github.com/proficnc/pixhawk2.1 for 11 months so they have what they need to build it. I wonder though if there will be many clones. The multiple redundant sensors and more sturdy design might mean the cost for Gearbest, Banggood, HobbyKing and others will be too high to offer meaningful clones that conform to the specification. Of course I could be way off, I'm no expert on the hardware design.
      We shall have to wait and see... :)

      Open source just means you are free to copy/use and potentially modify the designs. Since 3DR produced the original all others are clones.
      Imagine you painted a picture and said the design was open source and others could reproduce it. If I did so, then it makes sense to call it a clone of your original work. That's what is happening with the Pixhawk family or products.
