Firstly, I would like to thank you for your quick review/comparison. It would be great if you are able to clarify a doubt: I believe it's an xt60 connector on the stock power distribution board. Typically, my quadplanes tend to pull high amperage at certain times, so I was wondering if this xt60 connector is supposed to handle the whole current input?
Xt60 connectors are used on models that pull a lot more than the 60 amps that they are rated 4. If the current demand is in short bursts then it's not a problem at all. If you're worried you can always replace it with an xt90 connector.
@@Painless360 I wasn't concerned just about the xt60 connector but also the potential limitation it somewhat indirectly implied on current sensing. I just found out from 3dxr website that it can sense current up to 120A, so that's pretty cool!
A Pixhawk 2.4.8 I bought last year from Bangood but have not made the drone yet. Using proper gimbal and Gopro, do you think the Pixhawk will be able to produce same smooth footage like a Dji Phantom 4? If can not then I might not build it. In that way my money will not be wasted. I am a film maker and need very pro shot. Your insight will be very helpful to me. Thank you in advance.

Hello I'm trying to build a octocopter with pixhawk 4 autopilot and everything works but not my motors. I'm running brother hobby t7 and tmotor flame esc. What other configurator do you recommend besides mission planner?
ArduPilot is great so I'd work out what the issue is. Google something like 'mission planner arming painless360' to find my tips on how to figure out the problem. Best of luck!
Maybe out of topic but latest Arducopter 3.6 is now compatible with some race flight controllers as the Holybro Kakute F4 ardupilot.org/copter/docs/common-holybro-kakutef4.html I think it is a great option to start with arducopter with a small form factor / price

Would like to know about The flying long distances with this? I want to do a mission plan of about 15min out and 15min back. if my batteries will make it. can this be done? The drone says about 45min of flt time
Had to buy it and Mr. postman should be knocking on my door tomorrow. However, it comes with old px4 1.7.0 fw and it seems that this fw doesn’t support Blheli. Has anyone flushed ArduPilot beta on to HolyBro pixhawk 4?
Still no OSD. You'd think, with every one flocking to cheap AIO iNav boards, these Pix developers would go ahead and add an integrated OSD, at least as an option to the PDB. Very nice review. I like the looks of the board.
Depends on what you mean by best. I use Pixhawk Cube or HOLYBRO Pixhawk stuff only for models with expensive parts that benefit from Ardupilot. There are far cheaper options these days. See my flight controller comparison video.. Best of luck
Hey there! You're videos are always helpful to me. Could you please recommend me a flight controller and PDB I'm planning to use 6 Hobbywing X8 motors with 40mm props for my 6axis filming drone and it's going to be hybrid.
@@Painless360 hey it seems like you havent uploaded any builds with this flight controller yet. is there a particular reason for it ? for example this p4 isnt good?
Wow... F7, really? 😮 It's looking fantastic! But I'm curious about how to put it inside a quad, since it's not stackable. But... Well, you can always put a pvc board over the PDB (making holes and using standoffs) and fixing it above with double sided tape. (Just a detail: pvc board must be made at home, I don't think it's sold anywhere. But it's really easy to make from a piece of pipe.)
Doesn't need to be stackable because its not for small quads. I have a 10" Quad with an Pixhack and so much space for everything. Nothing stacked on that. If you want something from the PX4 series for small quads, look at the Pixracer, which is stackable.
So it's now 2 years later. The Pixhawk 4 is still the latest and greatest, and it's still extremely expensive - $250 shipped with the PDB, and GPS that is basically mandatory. Alternatively you can still buy the enigmatic no name Pixhawk 2.4.8s from china with all the accessories (including telemetry radios) for less than $150. Yes, the the Pixhawk 4 has more outputs, more memory, and is quite a bit faster. But so what? is that really going to translate into increased performance for your average hobby plane or drone? Is it really worth the extra $120-$150? I'm fairly new to the Pixhawk scene (coming from Betaflight racing drones) so I'm trying to make sense of it all. Does anyone think it's worth it to get the 4?
Check out my flight controller comparison video. Pixhawk cube and things like the HOLYBRO stuff is the higher end. You can run Ardupilot on cheap flight controllers now too if you don't want the cost of all the extras.. Best of luck
Could someone direct me to a way i can connect a readytosky 500m telemetry kit to a pixhawk4 with jst-gh?? It appears that my module has come with the wrong type of connector to use with pixhawk 4 . By the way huge thanks to Painless360 for helping me to get my wiring for my first quadcopter build.
Has anyone gotten any firmware flashed onto it from mission planner? It keeps erroring out on me every time. I have tried both Pixhawk and PX4 type board for flashing.
Hi, mine is on its way and I was wondering, have you flashed ArduPilot or PX4 firmware? From reading some comments it seems like fmu v5 is only in beta version of ArduPilot? Best, Gal.
Thats what I get for just ctrl+f pixhawk I guess! I flew an original pixhawk in an s1000 all last week - worked great even without autotune. Fitting voltage / amperage sensing in the correct spot is a bit of a pain though.
2.1 offers more redundancy, is a proven platform, and used professionally across the drone world. This one looks good, but it's obviously unproven. Time will tell.
$221 for the pixhawk 4 vs $230 for the pixhawk 2.1 cube. This is a very interesting system. I haven't used it but I have a lot of experience with pixhawk 2.1 cube and would highly recommend it. I am going to get this and experiment with it.

$211?! Yikes! I'd love to have a go at Ardupilot, but that's a little steep, at least compared to the racing quad boards I'm used to - even the ones based around the F7...
I hear you but these flight controllers are on another level and capable of autonomous flight among other features. Hard to compare to race flight controllers that only fly. There are cheaper options but pixhawks are great. They just work without fuss and are for serious builds.
Run from this board. The documentation is terrible. Pinning out and activating Aux is impossible. At least in the non holybro you know what pins are which this is a mess.
smitthone Pixhawk stuff is more for surveying, long range flights, basically a working tool hence it is a bit more complex and expensive than a regular flight controller you may find in a quadcopter
not really, but anyway, $137 FC only plastic-case a bit more reasonable. www.banggood.com/Holybro-Pixhawk-4-PX4-Flight-Controller-STM32F765-32-Bit-ARM-for-RC-Drone-FPV-Racing-p-1302139.html
Alpha Adhito You would be surprised, someone who has an expensive craft with say a $500 camera that does long range fpv, plus all their other equipment, $211 is a small price to pay for a reliable flight controller with reliable and programmable RTH that also has redundancies in case of power brownouts and long range telemetry..
Put it in the capi 2, should fit with a squeeze or a small cutout in the wing bay now that the pwm out pins are on top. I have a PH in capi 2, had to slice a cm out the wing bay to get it in because of the pin headers.

Had to buy it and Mr. postman should be knocking on my door tomorrow. However, it comes with old px4 1.7.0 fw and it seems that this fw doesn’t support Blheli. Has anyone flushed ArduPilot beta on to HolyBro pixhawk 4?
Love ya videos!! So am i putting this or the 2.1 on my 680pro?
What is the difference between Pixhawk 4 and 2.4.8?
The 2.4.8 is an old FC now and there are many clones available for little money but with varying levels of quality..
@@Painless360 Thank You. will stay with the PX4.
I forgot one important thing. what would be a good Tx to use with this? I have a new T8Sg v2. Or do I have the wrong idea?
See my kit picks video from August. All my suggestions for kit in there.. Best of luck!
Still no OSD. You'd think, with every one flocking to cheap AIO iNav boards, these Pix developers would go ahead and add an integrated OSD, at least as an option to the PDB. Very nice review. I like the looks of the board.
Put it in a X-uav Mini Talon. Would love to see a build like that with a pixhawk
Which one better?
And what will you choose if you have a choice b/w pixhawk 4 and pixhawk cube
Cube, or Durandal.
Sir which is best pixhawk 2.1 or pixhawk 4
Depends on what you mean by best. I use Pixhawk Cube or HOLYBRO Pixhawk stuff only for models with expensive parts that benefit from Ardupilot. There are far cheaper options these days. See my flight controller comparison video.. Best of luck
@@Painless360 yeah bro I am using expensive parts for DJI 900 I need best stability and more features so which is best bro pixhawk 2.1 or pixhawk 4
PixHawk Cube Orange for the ultimate..
I want to mount wing x8 for orthophotos, which pixhawk recommends cube 2.1 or that v4 ??
I've just fixed a big hex and I don't think the code for the new Pixhawk 4 is there yet.. I used a Pixhawk 2.1..
Hey there! You're videos are always helpful to me. Could you please recommend me a flight controller and PDB I'm planning to use 6 Hobbywing X8 motors with 40mm props for my 6axis filming drone and it's going to be hybrid.
Durandal or PixHawk Cube for something like that - see my videos on both..
@@Painless360 right now I'm watching one of yours video on pixhawk 4. What do you say about that?
@@Painless360 Right on! Sir
Great content as always! Are you making a video series on this one?
Yes, I'll be putting it into an old S9000 Hex frame in a series in the summer..
@@Painless360 hey it seems like you havent uploaded any builds with this flight controller yet.
is there a particular reason for it ? for example this p4 isnt good?
Thanks for the video. Please can you do a review on Pixhawk 4 Mini. Thanks again.
Thanks for the idea. Check out my Ardupilot on cheap flight controller series for other options in the mean time. Happy flying!
Really looking forward to seeing this build :)
Wow... F7, really? 😮
It's looking fantastic!
It's so funny reading comments from pilots who've gotten into quads during the the mini phase. "What?! There are quads bigger than 250mm!?"
Thank, waiting to see you use this actual.
Please see the many other answers on this in the comments - code isn't there yet..
this series will be interesting.. be watching
Hi, is Pixhawk 4 compatible with mission planner. Cheers
Yep - it runs Ardupilot..
Painless360 Thanks very much for your quick reply, very much appreciated, you truly are a legend. Cheers
Hey,
Painless360, can you please do a review of the F722-SE. I think you'll like the specs on this FC. Share your finding, thanks
@wtf WTF really! Sorry to know that. I got lucky with a good one.
I like HolyBro too, was looking at HolyBro 3DR Pixhawk Mini .. Cheers !!
Would love to see this on a CP heli! Let's see how it goes ;)
Seems to be great product, price is a bit steep though. Thank you and looking forward to the next video on this pixhawk.
Has anyone gotten any firmware flashed onto it from mission planner? It keeps erroring out on me every time. I have tried both Pixhawk and PX4 type board for flashing.
I'd suggest using QgroundControl. Best of luck
Yep, I tried that and it worked.
Hi, mine is on its way and I was wondering, have you flashed ArduPilot or PX4 firmware? From reading some comments it seems like fmu v5 is only in beta version of ArduPilot? Best, Gal.
Has anyone tried using this, i cant get any pwm out of any servo pin headers, im on arduplane 4.05 f.w.
Is the Pixhawk 2.1 better or this one?
Angus Whitehouse thx for the help
Still waiting for an arducopter build?
Waiting for what? See my S900 video.. ;)
Thats what I get for just ctrl+f pixhawk I guess! I flew an original pixhawk in an s1000 all last week - worked great even without autotune. Fitting voltage / amperage sensing in the correct spot is a bit of a pain though.
The power module can't cope with the current sadly, I ended up using the pack voltage instead..
Ah, I swapped to one from Mauch Power Modules.
Now i need to get one, Keep up the good work mate !
What's better pixhawk 3/pro or 2.1?
2.1 offers more redundancy, is a proven platform, and used professionally across the drone world. This one looks good, but it's obviously unproven. Time will tell.
$221 for the pixhawk 4 vs $230 for the pixhawk 2.1 cube. This is a very interesting system. I haven't used it but I have a lot of experience with pixhawk 2.1 cube and would highly recommend it. I am going to get this and experiment with it.
The 2.1 has redundancies built it, but yes, it's pretty spendy at the end of the day.
Hello
I’m trying to build an Airboat with differential thrust
I have:
Pixhawk 4 with the power module
GPS
R12DS Radioink receiver
AT10 Radiolink transmitter
2 80A ECS
2 brushless motors 620KV
I have installed AurduRover/boat
I have connected the ESCs to M1 and M2 in the power module,
however, the M2 (motor 2) is not working
anyone out there that could help me out
Thanks
It could be lots of things. What troubleshooting have you already done?
@@Painless360 thanks for the reply
it was bad soldering
looks like everything it's working
now I'm trying to figure out how to program differential thrust on my Radiolink AT10 II
Good review !
Hii , my name is alendher i want pixhwak 4 power management board pixhawk connection in drone
All covered in the docs - github.com/ArduPilot/ardupilot/blob/master/libraries/AP_HAL_ChibiOS/hwdef/Pixhawk4/README.md and docs.px4.io/v1.9.0/en/assembly/quick_start_pixhawk4.html Best of luck!
@@Painless360 tq
$211?! Yikes! I'd love to have a go at Ardupilot, but that's a little steep, at least compared to the racing quad boards I'm used to - even the ones based around the F7...
You can get cheap pixhawk clones, i have a pixhack (the original is from CUAV) clone from Banggood and it works fine, and it just was 50€.
Go look at the cost of a dji f2f with half the features...
At least in the non holybro you know what pins are which this is a mess.
this vs dji a3
DONATED!!! Amazing. I would like someone to Donate something like that to me.
It's well deserved! We're all bound to learn a lot from him receiving that donation.

I agree with you. Painless 360 has always made very informative videos. FLY ON!!! FELLOW SUBSCRIBER
211$ !!!! No,thanks.
smitthone
Pixhawk stuff is more for surveying, long range flights, basically a working tool hence it is a bit more complex and expensive than a regular flight controller you may find in a quadcopter
not really, but anyway, $137 FC only plastic-case a bit more reasonable.

Lachlan Ardrossan Agree. What kind of people using $211 Pixhawk for fun or AP purposes. Doh!
Alpha Adhito
You would be surprised, someone who has an expensive craft with say a $500 camera that does long range fpv, plus all their other equipment, $211 is a small price to pay for a reliable flight controller with reliable and programmable RTH that also has redundancies in case of power brownouts and long range telemetry..
I couldn’t have said that better myself. Each to their own. It’s part of the fun of the hobby.. happy flying!
